No full textDepartmental Bulletin PaperIn this study, we analyzed questions in junior high school geography textbooks and history textbooks. First, we tabulated questions with a historical element (questions with a chronological element) in geography textbooks and questions with a geographical field (questions with a spatial element) in history textbooks. Second, questions that asked about the cause and effect or background of the event were tabulated. The results showed that questions with geographical and historical elements in history and geography textbooks accounted for about 10% of all questions. On the other hand, the percentage of questions with geographical and historical elements was not constant throughout the textbooks. Questions that asked about cause and effect or background, geographical, and historical fields all accounted for about 10% of all questions. In the history textbooks, the percentages were constant throughout the textbooks, but in the geography textbooks, the percentages differed depending on the part of the textbooks.
