Populism has become a political phenomenon of special interest due to the proliferation of organizations, leaders or movements that are ascribed to such an elusive political category. However, it has been uncritically assumed that it has been more closely linked to journalistic uses than to studies of various spheres of knowledge such as the discipline of history or political science. For this reason, this article aims to focus on the validation of the concept as an axis of analysis of historical political experiences. To this end, the numerous problems in conceptualizing the phenomenon will be highlighted first and the evolution of the successive attempts will be presented. After that, the three predominant interpretative frameworks will be presented, and finally the concluding observations will be laid out.

El populismo se ha convertido en un fenómeno político de especial interés debido a la proliferación de organizaciones, líderes o movimientos que son adscritos a tan escurridiza categoría política. No obstante, se ha asumido de forma acrítica un significado más ligado a los usos periodísticos que a los estudios de diversas esferas del conocimiento como la disciplina histórica o las ciencias políticas. Por dicha razón, este artículo pretende poner el foco en la validez del concepto como eje de análisis de experiencias políticas históricas. Para ello, en primer lugar se destacarán los numerosos problemas a la hora de conceptualizar al fenómeno y se presentará la evolución de los sucesivos intentos. Tras ello, serán presentados los tres marcos interpretativos predominantes en la actualidad, para, finalmente, exponer las observaciones finales.

A vueltas con la biografía: una aproximación historiográfica

The symbiosis between the biographical approach and history is almost as old as the latter. It should come as no surprise, then, that reflections on how to write biographies are prolific today, as they have preoccupied a multitude of professional historians over the last two hundred years. Indeed, even older writers, literati and scholars have been concerned with projecting different aspects of their professional work in biography, although over the years it has been acclimatized to new trends, to the tastes of readers and to the academic world. With the transition to a more analytical historiography after World War II, it seemed that biography, especially political biography, might disappear from the scene. Nothing could be further from the truth if we take into account how the linguistic and cultural turn has, since the 1980s, brought about a new interest on the part of historians interested in cultivating narrative history and those concerned with individuality as a whole. Thus, the aim of the following article is to make a brief historical survey of the ways in which biography or life narratives have been conceived by European historiography. In the introductory part we will cover from its origins until the end of the nineteenth century; in the second, the main, we will explain some changes experienced in the twentieth century and in the third we will focus specifically on Spanish historiography from authors such as Pío Baroja to Isabel Burdiel.

La simbiosis entre la contigüidad biográfica e histórica es casi tan antigua como esta última. No debe extrañarnos pues que las reflexiones sobre cómo escribir biografías sean hoy en día prolíficas, pues han preocupado a multitud de historiadores durante los últimos doscientos años. En efecto, también escritores, literatos y eruditos más antiguos se preocuparon de proyectar en la biografía distintos aspectos de su labor profesional, si bien con el paso de los años fueron aclimatándose a las nuevas tendencias, a los gustos de los lectores y al mundo académico. Con el paso a una historiografía más analítica tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial parecía que la biografía, en especial la de tipo político, podía desparecer del panorama. Nada más lejos de la realidad si tenemos en cuenta cómo el giro lingüístico y cultural propició desde los años ochenta un nuevo interés por parte de los historiadores interesados en cultivar la historia narrativa y el fenómeno de la individualidad. Así, el objetivo del siguiente artículo es efectuar un breve recorrido por las formas en las que la biografía o los relatos de vida han sido concebidos por la historiografía europea. En la parte introductoria abarcaremos desde sus orígenes hasta finales del siglo XIX; en la segunda, la central, explicaremos los cambios experimentados en el XX y en la tercera nos centraremos concretamente en la historiografía española desde autores tales como Pío Baroja hasta Isabel Burdiel.

El Maestrazgo turolense conoció la llegada de las franciscanas, agustinas y concepcionistas a los conventos de Montesanto, en Villarluengo; Mirambel y Cuevas de Cañart en 1541, 1564 y 1668. Tras superar los procesos fundacionales, sirvieron de punto de partida para la creación de otros establecimientos de sus órdenes en otras poblaciones y se convirtieron en polo de atracción de profesionales de las artes que contribuyeron al desarrollo artístico del Maestrazgo, una zona afectada por la despoblación que lucha por la salvaguarda de su patrimonio cultural.
Abstract
The Maestrazgo of Teruel learned of the arrival of the Franciscans, Augustinians and Conceptionists in the convents of Montesanto, Villarluengo, Mirambel and Cuevas de Cañart in 1541, 1564 and 1668. After overcoming the founding processes, they served as a starting point for the creation of other establishments of their orders in other towns and became a pole of attraction for arts professionals who contributed to the artistic development of the Maestrazgo, an area affected by depopulation that fights to safeguard its cultural heritage.
