    Effects of High-Fructose Corn Syrup Addition to Broiler Diets on Performance, Carcass Yield, Visceral Weights, Gut pH and Some Blood Parameters

    Background: This study hypothesizes that using different amounts of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in broiler diets may improve performance. ObjectivesThis study aimed to determine the effects of HFCS added to broiler diets on performance, cecum pH and some biochemical parameters. Methods: A total of 120 Ross 308 chicks at the age of 0 day were divided into three main groups with four subgroups each. The groups consisted of a control (CON), low-HFCS and high-HFCS groups. The CON group received a diet containing no HFCS, the low-HFCS diet contained 50 mg/kg HFCS, and the high-HFCS diet contained 100 mg/kg HFCS. Body weight gain, feed consumption, carcass weight, visceral weight and cecum pH values were examined as performance parameters. Blood samples were taken at the end of the experiment and used to spectrophotometrically determine triglyceride, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL-CHO), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-CHO), glucose (GLU), creatinine (CRE), uric acid and insulin concentrations, as well as aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activities and oxidative stress markers. Proinflammatory cytokine levels were measured using ELISA test kits. Results: Feed consumption and body weight gain of the high-HFCS group decreased (p < 0.01). The feed conversion rate was negatively affected in both HFCS groups compared to the CON group (p < 0.01). The carcass yields of the groups linearly decreased with the increase of HFCS (p < 0.001). Serum LDL cholesterol (p < 0.05) and GLU (p < 0.01) levels were significantly lower in the HFCS groups than the CON. Serum CRE levels were higher in the low-HFCS group compared to the other groups (p < 0.001). The oxidative stress index (OSI) levels were lower in the low-HFCS group than the CON group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The addition of 100 mg/kg HFCS to broiler diets negatively affected performance parameters, but HFCS supplementation positively affected biochemical parameters. In particular, low-HFCS supplementation decreased the OSI, indicating that it could possibly reduce oxidative stress.     Florina’da doğan Necati Cumalı, (1921-2001), Cumhuriyet devrinde yetişen ve edebiyatın roman hikâye, oyun, deneme gibi çeşitli türlerinde eserler veren bir sanatçıdır. Lozan Anlaşması’ndan sonra Batı Trakya Türkleri, Anadolu Rumları ile mübadele edilince 1924’te ailesiyle birlikte İzmir’in Urla ilçesine iskân edilir. Şiirde arayışın sürdüğü 1940’lı yıllarda Garipçiler’le aynı sanat ortamını ve sanat anlayışını paylaşır, ama şiirlerine kendine özgü bir duyarlılık katmakla onlardan ayrılır. Kendi yaşantısıyla, gözlemleriyle ördüğü şiirinin dokusunu aşk, ölüm, yalnızlık, geçmişe özlem, yaşama sevinci, tabiat, memleket, yabancılaşama gibi çeşitli temalarla zenginleştirir. Onda şairliğinin ilk yıllarında beliren felsefî bir içe bakış, beraberinde siyasî eğilimlerin de eklenmesiyle yer yer toplumcu gerçekçi çizgiye kayar. Bununla birlikte Cumalı’nın şiirlerinde içeriğin zenginliğine nazaran, dış yapı, genel olarak zayıftır. Şair, çeşitli türde birçok eser üretirken şiire tam manasıyla odaklanamamıştır. Dolayısıyla geride zamana tutunacak estetik gücü yüksek bir şiir bırakamaz. Bu çalışmanın amacı, en iyi şairlerden bile zamana tutunan çok az şiir kaldığı gerçeğinden hareketle Cumalı’nın şair kimliğini belirlemektir

    Hatay İlinde Kedi ve Köpeklerde 2015-2022 Yılları Arasında Tetrathyridiosis Olgularının Retrospektif Analizi

    Peritoneal tetrathyridiosis kedi ve köpeklerde genellikle asemptomatik seyretmesi nedeniyle çeşitli operasyonlarda veya nekropsilerde tesadüfen rastlanan ve nadir görülen paraziter bir hastalıktır. Ancak tetrathyridiumlar kedi ve köpeklerde, bazen kronik asitesli peritonitise ve hatta ölümcül sonuçlara neden olabilirler. Bu çalışmada, 2015-2022 yılları arasında ovariohisterektomi ve orşiektomi amacıyla Hatay Büyükşehir Belediyesi Sahipsiz Hayvan Bakım ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi'ne getirilen 897 kedi ve 12 057 köpekte tetrathyridiosis olgularının prevalansı araştırıldı. Hayvanların periton, mezenterium ve omentum kısımlarında rastlanan küçük, beyaz renkli larva benzeri yapılar %10’luk formalin çözeltisi içeren şişelere konuldu. Daha sonra incelenmek üzere Hatay Mustafa Kemal Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Parazitoloji Ana Bilim Dalı Laboratuvarı’na nakledildi. Yapılan parazitolojik muayene sonucunda bu yapıların Mesocestoides spp.’nin ikinci dönem larvası tetrathyridium oldukları tespit edildi. Ovariohisterektomi ve orşiektomi operasyonları esnasında 897 kedinin 4’ünde (4?) (%0.44), 12 057 köpeğin 17’sinde (15?, 2?) (%0.14) toplamda da 12 954 hayvanın 21’inde (19?, 2?) (%0.16) tetrathyridiumlara rastlandı. Hatay ilinde kedi ve köpeklerde tetrathyridium varlığının araştırıldığı bu retrospektif çalışma, Türkiye’de ilk çalışma olma niteliğindedir

    Günümüz toplumunda, genel eğitim içeriğine, 21. yüzyıl teknolojisine, çalışma ve yaşam boyu öğrenme fırsatlarının çoğuna erişmek için okuma becerisi gereklidir. Bu herkes için geçerli olsa da okuma yazma becerilerinin kazanılması özellikle zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireyler için önemlidir. Alanyazında zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilere okuma yazma öğretiminde kanıta dayalı yaklaşımların kullanılması gerektiği ifade edilmektedir. Bu nedenle de zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilere okuma yazma öğretiminde hangi yaklaşımların etkili olduğunun bilinmesi önem arz etmektedir Yapılan araştırmalar okulların çoğunda öğretmenlere uygun eğitim programlarının sağlanamadığını göstermektedir. Bu durum zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilere okuma yazma öğretiminin bağlamından kopuk ve dağınık olmasına yol açmaktadır. Bu amaçla bu makalede, alan yazın taramasına dayalı olarak zihinsel yetersizliği olan öğrencilere okuma-yazma öğretimi yaklaşım ve yöntemlerine ilişkin genel çerçeve çizilmeye çalışılmıştır. Alanyazın incelendiğinde zihinsel yetersizliği olan bireylere okuma yazma öğretiminde genellikle iki yaklaşımın dikkate alındığı görülmektedir.     Centaurea mersinensis phytochemical composition and multi-dimensional bioactivity properties supported by molecular modeling

    Various studies conducted on Centaurea species indicate that the relevant plant is good source of bioactive phytochemicals. In this study, in vitro studies were used to determine bioactivity properties of methanol extract of Centaurea mersinensis - endemic species in Turkey - on extensive basis. Furthermore, the interaction of target molecules, identified for breast cancer and phytochemicals in the extract, was investigated via in silico analyses to support findings received in vitro. Scutellarin, quercimeritrin, chlorogenic acid and baicalin were primary phytochemicals in the extract. Methanol extract and scutellarin had higher cytotoxic effects against MCF-7 (IC50=22.17 mu g/mL, and IC50=8.25 mu M, respectively), compared to other breast cancer cell lines (MDA-MB-231, SKBR-3). The extract had strong antioxidant properties and inhibited target enzymes, especially alpha-amylase (371.69 mg AKE/g extract). The results of molecular docking indicate that main compounds of extract show high-strength bonding to the c-Kit tyrosine among target molecules identified in breast cancer, compared to other target molecules (MMP-2, MMP-9, VEGFR2 kinase, Aurora-A kinase, HER2). The tyrosinase kinase (1T46)-Scutellarin complex showed considerable stability in 150 ns simulation as per MD findings, and it was coherent with optimal docking findings. Docking findings and HOMO-LUMO analysis results corresponds with in vitro experiments. Medicinal properties of phytochemicals, which was determined to be suitable for oral use along with ADMET, were found to be within normal limits except for their polarity properties. In conclusion, in vitro and in silico studies indicated that the relevant plant yields promising results regarding its potential to develop novel and effective medicational products.Communicated by Ramaswamy H.     Chemical Composition Optimization and Isothermal Transformation of ?-Transformation-Induced Plasticity Steel for the Third-Generation Advanced High-Strength Steel Grade

    A new low-manganese transformation-induced plasticity steel is designed with optimized nickel content to achieve superior strength and ductility while minimizing the use of expensive nickel. The steel is optimized using JMatPro software, then cast, and hot rolled. To assess the effect of intercritical annealing on austenite (martensite at room temperature) volume fraction and carbon content, hot-rolled steel samples quenched from different annealing temperatures (680-1100 degrees C) are used. Additionally, hot-rolled steel coupons are intercritically annealed at about 50% austenite formation temperature (740 degrees C) and then subjected to isothermal treatments at 300-425 degrees C for varying times (10-90 min). After optimizing these treatments to maximize retained austenite (RA), tensile specimens are heat-treated first at 740 degrees C and then isothermally at 325 degrees C. Thermodynamic calculations suggest that aluminum combined with silicon may lead to the delta ferrite formation, and even minimal nickel content can stabilize a considerable amount of austenite. In the experimental studies, it is shown that lower-temperature bainitic holding enhances austenite stability by enriching the carbon content.     Full Heusler Yapıdaki Bi2FeNi Alaşımının Elastik, Elektronik, Yapısal ve Termodinamik Özelliklerinin Teorik Olarak İncelenmesi

    Heusler alloys, whose spintronic and magnetoelectronic properties are of great interest, are primarily studied as toric alloys due to the time-consuming and costly synthesis. Alloys with the XY2Z form are called Full Heusler alloys. Bi2FeNi alloy is also a full Heusler alloy and in this study the structural, magnetic, electronic and elastic properties of the alloy have been investigated theoretically using the density functional theory approach (DFT). No experimental or theoretical studies on FeBi2Ni alloy have been reported in the literature so far. In this study, the mechanical and electronic properties of FeBi2Ni alloy are investigated with the aim of understanding their usability in spintronic and magnetoelectronic device applications. The calculated optimized lattice constant of the alloy was obtained as 6.78925 Å using the Quantum Espresso package program and the electronic band graphs of the alloy were plotted. Thanks to these graphs, the conductivity, magnetization and the type of interatomic bonds of the alloy were investigated. As a result of these investigations, Bi2FeNi ternary alloy with full Heusler structure is considered to have metallic conductive and magnetic properties. The elastic constants (C11, C12, C44) of the alloy were calculated and it was found that the alloy is mechanically stable according to Born stability criteria. Quantities such as Young modulus and Bulk modulus, which allow us to make predictions about the alloy, were calculated and it was understood that the alloy has a ductile structure, is compressible and shows anisotropic behavior. In the light of this information, it is thought that the alloy can be used in spintronic and magnetoelectronic applications.Spintronik ve manyetoelektronik özellikleri oldukça ilgi gören Heusler alaşımlar sentezlerinin zaman alması ve maliyetli olması yüzünden öncelikle torik olarak çalışılmaktadırlar. XY2Z formuna sahip alaşımlar Full Heusler alaşımlar olarak adlandırılmaktadır. Bi2FeNi alaşımı da Full Heusler yapıda bir alaşım olup bu çalışmada alaşıma ait yapısal, manyetik, elektronik ve elastik özellikler yoğunluk fonksiyonel teorisi yaklaşımı (DFT) kullanılarak teorik olarak incelenmiştir. FeBi2Ni alaşımı ile alakalı bugüne kadar literatürde herhangi bir deneysel ya da teorik çalışma rapor edilmemiştir. Bu çalışmada FeBi2Ni alaşımnın mekanik ve elektronik özellikleri spintronik ve manyetoelektronik cihaz uygulamalarında kullanılabilirliklerinin anlaşılması amaçlanarak incelenmiştir. Alaşıma ait hesaplanan optimize edilmiş örgü sabiti Quantum Espresso paket programı kullanılarak 6,78925 ? olarak elde edildi, alaşımın elektronik bant grafikleri çizdirildi. Bu grafikler sayesinde alaşıma ait iletkenlik, manyetizasyon ve atomlar arası bağların türü incelenmiştir. Bu incelemeler sonucunda Full Heusler yapıdaki Bi2FeNi üçlü alaşımının metalik iletken ve manyetik özelliklere sahip olduğu düşünülmektedir. Alaşıma ait elastik sabitleri (C11, C12, C44) hesaplanarak alaşımın Born kararlılık kriterlerine göre mekanik olarak kararlı olduğu anlaşıldı. Young modülü, Bulk modülü gibi alaşıma ait tahminler yapmamızı sağlayan nicelikler hesap edilerek alaşımın sünek bir yapıya sahip olduğu, sıkışabilir olduğu ve anizotropik davranış gösterdiği anlaşıldı. Bu bilgiler ışığında alaşımın spintronik ve manyetoelektronik uygulamalarda kullanılabileceği düşünülmektedir

    Changes in blood gas in supine and prone positions in percutaneous stone surgery: does position have any advantage for hemodynamics?

    To evaluate whether different positions are advantageous for hemodynamics and respiratory balance in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedures. Pre- and postoperative arterial blood gas data obtained during spontaneous breathing for 67 prone (Group 1) and 56 supine (Group 2) patients undergoing PCNL were analyzed. Additionally data on all patients' gender, age, body mass index, stone size, access and surgical duration, volume of irrigation fluid, length of hospital stay, requirement for blood transfusion, and residual stones were recorded: There were no differences between the groups in terms of age, stone size, operation time, access time, radiation exposure, transfusion requirements, stone-free rate, and length of hospitalization. A statistically significant pH decrease was observed in both groups in the postoperative period (p = 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively). There was a statistically significant increase in pCO(2) values in both groups in the postoperative period (p = 0.001 and p = 0.024, respectively), and that increase did not differ significantly between the groups (p = 0.624). A statistically significant decrease in pO(2) and SpO(2) values was observed in both groups in the postoperative period compared to the preoperative period. Again, no statistical difference was observed between the groups for these values. There was a statistically significant decrease in bicarbonate in both groups period (p < 0.001 and p = 0.001, respectively). Hemodynamics and the respiratory balance of the patient are impaired in both prone and supine positions. Neither position is superior to the other in this respect

    Migraines are recurring headaches that frequently occur with nausea and sensitivity to light. They can be easily diagnosed because they occur with headaches of varying severity and periods when the patient experiences no symptoms. It is stated that headaches are usually throbbing and relieved after sleeping. Rhinosinusitis-related headaches, the most frequently encountered by ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physicians, are generally more disturbing in the mornings due to stasis and being in a horizontal position at night. It is generally accepted that the leading cause of migraines is neuroinflammation of the trigemino-vascular system. The trigemino-vascular system contains peripheral trigeminal nerve endings that innervate the pia mater, dura mater, and cranial blood vessels, among other structures. Patients with suspected migraine may also present primarily with vestibular symptoms. It is expected to have an aura before attacks. However, at the first presentation, patients may also describe migraine without aura or migraine headache accompanied by photophobia and phonophobia. Given the enigmatic origins of both tinnitus and migraines, it is plausible that they have a common pathophysiology connected to the central nervous system. In particular, migraine-related tinnitus is caused by trigeminal nerve activation and is likely hypersensitivity of the cerebral cortex. Some symptoms that may be noticed include vertigo, tinnitus, impaired hearing, ataxia, and issues with vision in both eyes. With a comprehensive literature analysis, this study discusses the otolaryngologic features of migraines to update the general information, especially that of ENT specialists. © 2024 Turkey Association of Society of Ear Nose Throat and Head Neck Surgery.     Generation of Random Numbers on a Microcontroller Platform

    Mikrodenetleyiciler ucuz ve çok yönlü olmaları nedeniyle günlük uygulamalarda yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Son yıllarda Nesnelerin İnterneti ve Yapay Zeka alanlarında yaşanan gelişmeler mikrodenetleyicilerin uygulama alanlarını daha da artırmıştır. Mikrodenetleyici uygulamalarının en büyük sorunu, mevcut sınırlı donanım kaynaklarıyla rastgele sayıların üretilmesidir. Farklı saat kaynaklarındaki seğirmeyi kullanan veya özel rastgele sayı üreteçleri içeren mevcut yöntemler, ya çalışma hızından yoksundur ya da pahalı donanım bileşenlerinin eklenmesini gerektirir. Bu makale, bir mikrodenetleyici platformunda rastgele sayılar üretmek için bir transistördeki çığ kırılma belirsizliğini kullanmaktadır. Bu çalışma kapsamında rastgele sayılar üretecek bir donanım platformu tasarlanmış ve üretilen veriler istatistiksel yöntemlerle analiz edilmiştir. Sunulan çözüm hem tasarım bütçesi hem de donanım kaynakları açısından oldukça hızlı ve uygun maliyetlidir.Microcontrollers are widely used in everyday applications as a result of their cheap and versatile nature. Recent advances in the fields of Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence further increased the application areas of microcontrollers. A major problem of microcontroller applications is the generation of random numbers with the limited hardware resources available. Existing methods which use the jitter in different clock sources or incorporate dedicated random number generators either lack operation speed or need addition of expensive hardware components. This paper uses the avalanche breakdown uncertainty in a transistor to generate random numbers on a microcontroller platform. In the context of this study, a hardware platform is designed to generate random numbers and generated data is analyzed through statistical methods. The presented solution is quite fast and cost effective in terms of both design budget and hardware resources
