A study on Machidukuri Typology in Niigata Prefecture
Get PDFapplication/pdfThis paper tries to clarify the typologies of Machidukuri in Niigata-prefecture. Regarding to literature study,“ bottomup approach”and“indigenous development theory”has been exercised in 1980ʼs in Japan. Similar community-based approaches were exercised in Niigata in the same period without prefectureʼs initiatives. After governor Hirayamaʼs Policy, Niigata prefecture tried that approach in 1990ʼs. After 2000, new type of Machidukuri approach, such as the Murakami Machiya Project, is expected to be spread. Three typologies were recognized.departmental bulletin pape

Echigo-Mishima takeakari-kaido (Bamboo-lantern festival)
Get PDFapplication/pdfEchigo-Mishima Takeakari-Kaido, is a bamboo-lantern festival that is carried out by the community development and community design organization on the old-street in the Mishima district of Nagaoka City. This project took four months of cutting bamboo poles to produce the lanterns for a four-hour display on the night of October 22nd. This project was managed by the Mishima Light-Up committee, supported by NID professor Yuji Ueno and the student group for the light design and lighting presentation. Over 300 bamboo trees were used to produce the lanterns and 24,000 candles were installed for the lighting.departmental bulletin pape
