Modelization of a Coordination Process Between Schools and External Organizations on Children’s Problematic Behaviors. : Through the Survey by Interviewing Student Guidance Directors
application/pdfIn order to resolve children’s problematic behaviors, it is repeatedly addressed through various suggestions and information that it is important for schools to provide guidance to students and for schools and relating organizations to coordinate. It is vital to coordinate with relating organizations on providing guidance to students. The objectives of this study is to modelize a coordination process between schools and external organizations. The coordination process focuses on a coordination with external organizations and shows how children’s problematic behaviors turns for better by a student supervisor who is aware of such behaviors coordinating with external organizations.
The study was conducted by giving a semi-structured interview to one student supervisor who works at a junior high school on cases that required the coordination. The analysis and descriptions were done using Trajectory and Equifinality Model (TEM).
Even if the problematic behaviors might not show any potentials of crimes, based on information such as student’s home environment, friends, and nature, the student supervisor determines that the coordination with external organizations is necessary for a case with factors that could potentially complicate and prolong problems. Also, when considering external organizations, the supervisor made selections based on the necessity of assistance for the future. It is suggested that, facing with and having deeper understandings of relating organizations, and coordinating with various organizations according to their specialties are the important factors of turning the problems for the better.
journal articl

Experience of Mothers of Hikikomori Children during their High School and University Days : The Process of Mother’s Participation in a Hikikomori “Parents’ Group”
application/pdfThe goal of this study is to clarify the experience process up to joining a parents' group, for mothers of school refusal children who refused to go to school or university and ended up as hikikomori, refusing to go out at all. Another goal is to examine support for such mothers. Semistructured interviews were conducted with twelve mothers. By analyzing the interviews using the revised version of the grounded theory approach, five categories and twelve concepts were extracted. The central category was looking for a guidepost and this affected the other three categories. In (makeshift solution for child) mothers repeatedly tried to find some stopgap solution. In (anguish amid a sense of isolation) they struggled on alone, feeling isolated. In this process, mothers made the (decision to join a parents' group) because they wanted to meet someone who would understand, obtain useful information and have some idea of what the future might hold. Since the looking for a guidepost situation continued for some time before they made the (decision to join a parents' group) it is highly likely that these mothers' psychological state can be stabilized through an appropriate response, and that they will be able to deal with their child head on, and adopt an attitude which seeks to understand him. From the analysis results, it is suggested that “mother's acceptance” and “encouragement of supporter's understanding of hikikomori” are important elements in supporting responses to looking for a guidepost. journal articl
The Effect of Peer Education by Midwifery Students on High School Students' Sexual Education
application/pdfThis study investigates the effect of peer education delivered by midwifery students on high school students’ sexual education.
Our research methodology involved 860 high school students, who took the sexual education program delivered by peer educators. They were then requested to answer a questionnaire about the impact of the program. We subjected the resulting data to detailed analysis using qualitative and descriptive analytical techniques.
Our findings identified seven categories of learning outcomes, including “knowledge gaining and deepening recognition”, “awareness of self protection”, “development of will toward sexual behavior”, and “appreciation for learning from university students”. In addition, comparisons within coded subcategories showed that girls listed three subcategories as important including “protecting yourself with respect” and boys put more emphasis on “a caring attitude to girls”.
We concluded that peer education by midwifery students demonstrated several effects. Outcomes included enhanced empathy and affirmative acceptance, as well as encouragement to self determination and self responsibility concerning sexual behavior through education on awareness about the preciousness of life, the gratitude to parents, the facts of abortion and similar issues. These were learned through sharing the experiences of practical midwifery training. journal articl

Educational Effect by Using Simulated Patient in Basic Nursing Education : Through Practice on Oral Health Care (the First Report)
application/pdfThe objective of the present study was to compare the learning content and responses of nursing students in “practice on oral health care” that used simulated patients (SP) with those of a previous study, and to investigate the educational effect of the practice. The results of a questionnaire survey conducted on 64 nursing students indicated that students were strongly influenced by the feedback they received from SP through care, the responses of SP during provision of assistance, and the presence of SP itself. Qualitative analysis of free response items also showed that interactions with SP resulted in “intrinsic motivation” and “recognition of the need to understand others”.
In addition, no significant differences were observed in learning effects between students with and without learning experience in nursing. This finding was attributed to the fact that the practice program was designed to prevent differences in learning effects by learning experience.
However, at the personal level, “negative responses regarding practice using SP” were also observed. These findings indicate the need for careful selection of educational contents and creation of more effective programs in the use of SP, which exerts strong effects both positively and negatively and influences learning effects.
journal articl
