The Relationships Between Role-Taking Ability and School Liking or School Avoidance : Rule and Moral Situations
application/pdfThis study examined the relationship between role-taking ability and school liking or school avoidance in late childhood.\nParticipants were Grades 5 and 6 Japanese children (N = 187; 107 boys and 80 girls). To assess the role-taking ability of elementary school children, the study used a hypothetical dilemma task, in which the main character encounters a dilemma in a rule or moral situation within a school context. The School Liking and Avoidance Questionnaire was used to measure children’s emotional adjustment to school. The relationship between school liking and developmental stages of role-taking ability in rule and moral situations was evaluated. Significant stage-based differences in school-liking scores were found in both rule and moral situations. In examining the relationship between school avoidance and role taking, significant developmental effects were found only with respect to role taking in rule situations.journal articl
Various Retellings of a Traditional Tale Found in Japanese Linguistic Culture (Part 2) : the Inaba no Shiro Usagi Tale in Elementary-School Textbooks Published by Tokyo Shoseki
application/pdfThis paper analyzes the literary and arrative characteristics of the retelling of the Inaba-no-Shiro-Usagi story contained in second-grade elementary-school Japanese language-education textbooks published by Tokyo Shoseki, and compares this retelling with other versions in similar textbooks used in Japanese elementary schools, including a previous retelling by the same author published by Hikarinokuni. Analysis revealed that the story had been retold so as to focus on O-Kuni-Nushi as the tale’s main protagonist. With little time spent describing the personalities, motivations and feelings of the story’s characters, this version instead simply gives each major event as the story progresses. However, one characteristic of this retelling is that it includes the prophecy given by the rabbit to O-Kuni-Nushi, and the relationship between these two therefore does not wind up simply being portrayed as “ a fool needing help” and “ the hero saving him.” Compared with alternate retellings of the Inaba-no-Shiro-Usagi story in other extbooks, the Tokyo Shoseki version offers a more straightforward retelling of the original tale, thereby conveying the mood and spirit of the Kojiki original.2015年度より使用されている東京書籍発行の小学校2年生用国語科教科書に掲載されている「いなばの白うさぎ」の、文学作品としての特徴について、初出のひかりのくに版、他社発行の教科書に採用されている同じ神話の再話作品と比較しながら考察した。 journal articl

The Current Status of Childcare Leave-taking and Childrearing by Male Nurses, and Factors Promoting Their Taking of Childcare Leave
application/pdfAn anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted, on 154 male nurses with children between 0 and 12 years of age, concerning the status of their childcare leave-taking and childrearing, as well as factors promoting the taking of childcare leave. The survey revealed the following facts. 1. Thirteen male nurses (8.4%) had taken childcare leave, with roughly half taking less than one month of leave. Respondents’ reasons for leave-taking included reducing the burden on their wives and/or care of their new born or older children. 2. To encourage male nurses to take childcare leave, it is necessary to promote a positive attitude towards such leave, and to provide a working environment that allows childcare leave-takers to return to the same position in the workplace after their leave. 3. Disincentives for childcare leave-taking included the environment or atmosphere of their workplace, economic factors, work demands, objections from those around them, and insufficient understanding and poor public recognition of the childcare leave system. 4. The average length of time spent by male nurses in childrearing was 2.2 hours a day, and this time tended to increase with lower youngest-child age and/or lesser gender role awareness. 5. In order for male nurses to achieve a desired balance between work and childrearing, a work climate is required in which workers respect each other's notions of work and lifestyle, and both their income and alternative staffing during childcare leave are properly ensured. journal articl
