The poet Kadiyalur Uruttirangannanar of the Kadai Sangam has sung Perumpāṇrruppaṭai, one of the five Āṭruppadai works in the Pattupattu. In the Panar sugarcane mill on the way, the Panar group enjoyed what they wanted in the fields of Marudham land, tender coconut, palm, nungu, mango, jackfruit, banana and sambu. Pork and boiled toddy were eaten by the Banars in the Neithal land. In all the five lands, the bards drank the liquor and liquor available there. In Brahmin homes they used to eat cow buttermilk, garudachamba rice, pomegranate fried in ghee, curry mudu and flour. Finally, the Panar group reached the palace of Thondaiman Ilanthirayan. The king welcomed them willingly, presented them with new clothes, placed various kinds of food on silver plates and made them eat with each one of them pleasantly. He gave them as much as they wanted and sent them away. This Aatrupadai literature beautifully portrays the food habits of the ancient Tamil people and the hospitality of the palace. It is certain that other literature will also provide new information
