    Biological control of green mould on mandarin fruit through the combined use of antagonistic yeasts

    Penicillium digitatum is the primary cause of green mould in mandarins during the postharvest period, mainly controlled through synthetic fungicides. This study evaluated the biocontrol of green mould on mandarin fruit with three antagonistic yeasts (Hanseniaspora uvarum, Meyerozyma guilliermondii, and Metschnikowia aff. pul-cherrima P01A016), alone or in combination, by elucidating their possible mechanisms of action. All yeast cultures alone (73.85 % -80.64 %) and their combinations (78.40 % -83.18 %) reduced the mycelial growth of green mold in vitro. M. aff. pulcherrima reduced the disease incidence and lesion diameters by 75.5 % and 91.3 %, respectively, demonstrating the highest biocontrolling activity alone. Meyerozyma guilliermondii showed the highest biofilm formation (OD 0.93 +/- 0.01) and antifungal activity (71.13 %) through volatile organic com-pounds (VOCs), while H. uvarum displayed cell-wall degrading beta-1,3 glucanase activity together with mycoci-nogenic and VOCs activity. All tested yeasts showed chitinase, protease, and leucine arylamidase activity. Among dual combinations, M. guilliermondii and M. aff. pulcherrima (M-1) were the most compatible, while M. aff. pulcherrima and H. uvarum (M-3) had the least compatibility. The combined application of these three yeasts resulted in synergistic co-operation, demonstrating the highest biocontrolling efficacy in vitro and in vivo. Inte-grating multiple mechanisms of action in yeasts could create a hurdle approach for inhibiting green mould in citrus as a green alternative to synthetic fungicides.     Bu çalışma ortaokul 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin çarpanlar ve katları konusunu öğrenmelerinde, üstbilişsel planlamaya dayalı tasarlanan manipülatif destekli öğrenme ortamının değerlendirilmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Ortaokul 8. sınıf düzeyindeki 19 öğrencinin katıldığı çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması modeli kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sürecinde ilk olarak üstbilişsel planlamaya dayalı sanal ve fiziksel manipülatif destekli bir öğrenme ortamı tasarlanmıştır. Ardından öğrenme ortamına uygun olarak hazırlanan etkinlikler altı haftalık süreçte katılımcılara uygulanmıştır. Uygulama sürecinin bitiminde araştırmacılar tarafından hazırlanan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu yardımıyla görüşmeler yapılarak çalışmanın verileri toplanmıştır. Toplanan verilere içerik analizi yapılmıştır. İçerik analizi sonucunda katılımcıların görüşleri üstbiliş, manipülatif ve öğrenme ortamı temalarını oluşturmuştur. Çalışmada ulaşılan sonuçlar manipülatif destekli üstbilişsel planlamaya dayalı öğrenme ortamında öğrencilerin ilk haftalarda daha çok fiziksel manipülatiflerle çalışmayı, son haftalarda ise daha çok sanal manipülatiflerle çalışmayı tercih ettiğini göstermiştir. Bu nedenle uygulayıcılara üstbilişe dayalı öğrenme ortamlarının sanal manipülatif ve teknoloji etkinlikleriyle desteklenmesi önerilebilir

    EXAMINING COGNITIVE STRUCTURES OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS REGARDING CONCEPTS RELATED TO MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION

    The aim of this study was to investigate the cognitive structures of secondary school students regarding concepts related to multicultural education. The study was conducted through a survey design. The study group consisted of 189 eighth-grade students studying in secondary school. Out of the 189 participants, 97 were female and 92 were male. The criterion sampling method, one of the purposeful sampling methods, was used in the selection of the study group. Word Association Test was used as a data collection tool for the research. According to results of the study, it was determined that secondary school students associated the most words with the concept of culture and the fewest words with the concept of respect. In addition, it has been determined that there is a misconception in the cognitive structures of the students regarding the perceptions of justice and equality. The research results has also shown that the students only weakly correlated concepts related to multicultural education

    Synthesis and characterization of CuO/rGO composite nanoparticles for photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants from wastewater

    Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Kimya Ana Bilim DalıNanomalzemelere olan ilgi, bu malzemelerin sahip oldukları sıradışı özelliklerden dolayı her geçen gün sürekli artarak devam etmektedir. Günümüzde nanomalzemelerin, günlük yaşamımızda daha fazla görünür olabilmeleri ancak daha fazla miktarlarda ve daha düşük maliyetle üretilebilmeleri ile mümkün olabilecektir. Bunun için çevre dostu, düşük maliyetli, hızlı ve yüksek verimli yeni proseslerin geliştirilmesine hala ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, önemli bir yarı iletken olan CuO nanopartiküllerin ve CuO@rGO kompozit nanopartiküllerin ticari ölçekte üretilebilmelerine imkân sağlayabilecek bir metod geliştirilmesi ve bu yöntemle üretilen nanopartiküllerin atıksularda bulunan organik kirleticilerin gideriminde fotokatalizör olarak kullanılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, birinci aşamada, düşük maliyetli, kolay uygulanabilir ve çevre dostu bir yöntem olan mikrodalga destekli yakma tekniği ile CuO nanopartiküllerin sentezlenebilirliği çalışılmıştır. Sentez çalışmalarında, CuO nanopartiküller ve CuO@rGO kompozit nanopartiküllerin üretimi için iki farklı temel yaklaşım benimsenmiştir. İlk yöntemde klasik yakma metodu uygulanırken ikinci yöntemde çözelti yakma tekniği uygulanmıştır. Her iki yöntemle de CuO@rGO kompozit nanopartiküllerin de üretimi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu amaçla modifiye hummers metodu ile laboratuvarda üretilen indirgenmiş grafen oksit (rGO) kullanılmıştır. Kompozit malzemenin üretiminde CuO ve rGO ayrı ayrı sentezlenmiş ve daha sonra birleştirlmiştir (self–assembly). Sentez çalışmalarından elde edilen veriler, CuO nanopartiküller ve CuO@rGO kompozit nanopartiküllerin her iki yöntemle de başarılı bir şekilde sentezlenebildiğini göstermiştir. Bu çalışmalarda, yaklaşık 10-20 nm boyut aralığında bir boyut dağılımına sahip olan nanomalzemeler elde edilmiştir. Daha sonra bu malzemeler atıksulardan Tartrazin olarak bilinen ve gıda endüstrisinde yoğun bir şekilde kullanılan bir boyarmaddenin fotokatalitik oksidasyonla gideriminde fotokatalizör olarak kullanılmıştır. Bu denemelerde başlangıç kirletici konsantrasyonu 50 mg/L olarak uygulanmıştır. Fotokataliz denemelerinde, gerekli ışımayı sağlamak için 4400µW/cm2 ışık yoğunluğuna sahip bir daldırma tip lamba kullanılmıştır. Çözeltinin kendi doğal pH değerinde yapılan denemelerde, hemen hemen sentezlenen tüm katalizörlerle yapılan denemelerde ortamdaki kirletici maddenin tamamen giderilebildiği gözlemlenmiştir. Ayrıca yapılan kinetik incelemede incelenen tüm süreçlerin yalancı 1. derece kinetik modele uyduğu belirlenmiştirInterest in nanomaterials continues to increase day by day due to the extraordinary properties of these materials. Today, nanomaterials can be more visible in our daily life only if they can be produced in more quantities and at lower costs. For this, there is still a need to develop new environmentally friendly, low-cost, fast, and highly efficient processes. This study aims to develop a method that will allow the commercial-scale production of CuO nanoparticles, which is a crucial semiconductor and CuO@rGO composite nanoparticles. Moreover, synthesized nanomaterials were used as a photocatalyst for the removal of organic pollutants in wastewater. In order to improve the photocatalytic activities of the produced CuO nanoparticles, CuO@rGO composite nanoparticles were produced by assembling with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to the structure, and the effect of reduced graphene oxide added to the structure on the photocatalytic activities of CuO nanoparticles was investigated. For this purpose, in the first stage, the synthesis of CuO nanoparticles and CuO@rGO composite nanoparticles with microwave-assisted combustion technique, which is a low-cost, easy-to-apply and environmentally friendly method, was investigated. In synthesis studies, two basic approaches were adopted for the production of CuO nanoparticles and CuO@rGO composite nanoparticles. In the first method, the conventional microwave-assisted combustion method was applied, while the microwave-assisted solution-combustion technique was applied in the second method. Both CuO nanoparticles and CuO@rGO composite nanoparticles were produced by both methods. For this purpose, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) produced in the laboratory by the modified hummers method was used. In the production of the composite material, CuO and rGO were synthesized separately and then assembled (self-assembly). The data obtained from the synthesis studies showed that CuO nanoparticles and CuO@rGO composite nanoparticles could be successfully synthesized by both methods. In these studies, nanomaterials with a size distribution in the size range of about 10-20 nm were obtained. Later, these materials were used as photocatalysts in the photocatalytic oxidation removal of a dyestuff from wastewater, known as Tartrazine, which is used extensively in the food industry. In these trials, the initial pollutant concentration was 50 mg/L. In photocatalysis experiments, an immersion lamp with a light intensity of 4400µW/cm2 was used to provide the required radiation. It has been observed that the pollutant in the environment can be removed entirely in the experiments carried out with the natural pH value of the solution and in the experiments with almost all synthesized catalysts.     Deconstruction of the relationship between personality traits of bocce and darts athletes and their level of imagination in sports

    Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Ana Bilim DalıBu çalışma Türkiye bocce bowling ve dart federasyonu faaliyet programında yer alan müsabakalarda yarışan bocce ve dart sporcularının kişilik özellikleri ile imgeleme düzeylerini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada, mevcut durumu belirlemek adına ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmaya 2021-2022 sezonunda TBBDF'nin bocce ve dart müsabakalarında büyükler kategorisinde lisanslı olarak yarışmış olan 189 bocce sporcusu ve 130 dart sporcusu olmak üzere toplamda 319 sporcu dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada kullanılacak verilerin toplanması amacı ile katılımcılara ''Kişisel Bilgi Formu'', "Sporda İmgeleme Envanteri" ve ''Beş Faktör Kişilik Envanteri'' olmak üzere üç farklı forma ait sorular yöneltilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde basit kolerasyon, Anova-Tukey ve T-testleri yapılarak çalışmanın sonuçlarına ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre çalışmaya katılan bocce ve dart sporcularının Beş Faktör Kişilik özellikleri ile yaş, cinsiyet, Spor branşı, ailede lisanslı sporculuk yapanların var mı? Değişkenleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılıklar olduğu tespit edilmiştir(p<0,05). Bocce ve Dart sporcularının imgeleme düzeyleri ile yaş, cinsiyet, eğitim durumu, anne eğitim durumu, baba eğitim durumu, spor branşı, milli sporculuk durumu, spor yaşı ve ailede lisanslı sporculuk yapan var mı? Değişkenleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklılıklar tespit edilmiştir(p<0,05). Anahtar kelimeler: Kişilik Özellikleri, İmgeleme, Bocce, Dart.This study was carried out to examine the personality characteristics and imagery levels of bocce and darts athletes competing in the competitions included in the activity program of the Turkish Bocce Bowling and Darts Federation. In the research, the correlational survey model was used to determine the current situation. 189 bocce athletes and 130 darts athletes, in total of 319 certified athletes who competed in the adult category on the bocce and dart competitions of TBBDF in the 2021-2022 season were included in the study. In order to collect the data that is going to be used in the research, questions of three different forms were asked to the participants: "Personal Information Form", "Imagery in Sports Inventory" and "Five Factor Personality Inventory". In the analysis of the data, the results of the study were obtained through conducting methods of simple correlation, Anova-Tukey and T-tests. It was detected that there were statistically significant differences between the variables of age, gender, sports branch and whether the participants have another certified athlete in the family and personal characteristics of bocce and darts athletes that participate in the study based on the results that are obtained through the Five Factor Personality Inventory (p<0.05). Statistically significant differences were detected between the variables of age, gender, education level, education level of the mother education level of the father,sports branch, status of national team eligibility, sports age, and whether the participants have another certified athlete in the family and the imagery levels of Bocce and Darts athletes (p<0.05).     Isolation and characterization of yogurt starter cultures from traditional yogurts and growth kinetics of selected cultures under lab-scale fermentation

    The development of new starter cultures is a crucial task for the food industry to meet technological requirements and traditional products are important reservoirs for new starter cultures. In this respect, this study aimed to isolate, identify, and determine the technological characteristics of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus strains originated from traditional yogurt samples. Genotypic discrimination of 200 isolates revealed the presence of distinct 19 S. thermophilus and 11 Lb. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus strains as potential starter cultures. Strain-specific properties determined the acidification capacity of the yogurt starter cultures and a higher acidification capacity was observed for S. thermophilus strains compared to Lb. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus strains. Proteolytic activity was found between 0.012-0.172 and 0.078-0.406 for S. thermophilus and Lb. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus strains, respectively. 4 of S. thermophilus and 3 of Lb. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus strains were found resistant to all tested bacteriophages. The antibiotic susceptibility tests of the isolates revealed that a very low antibiotic resistance was observed for the yogurt starter cultures. Finally, the growth kinetics of selected strains were determined and the maximum specific growth rate of selected S. thermophilus and Lb. delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus was calculated as 0.527 h(-1) and 0.589 h(-1), respectively.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) KAMAG 1007 Program [116G012]This work was supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) KAMAG 1007 Program with Project Number 116G012

    STRATEGIC MARKETING MANAGEMENT IN SMES: THE CASE OF L?LEBURGAZ

    Due to the changing conditions and new developments in the business world in recent years, SMEs in Turkey need to adopt a strategic marketing management approach in order to be successful and gain competitive advantage. Strategic marketing management, on the other hand, is the process of managers developing marketing strategies by identifying the strengths and weaknesses, threats and opportunities of the business towards marketing and applying these strategies. In this study, it is aimed to develop strategies for the marketing activities of these enterprises and to contribute to the relevant literature by making strategic analyzes of SMEs in the context of marketing, based on the example of Luleburgaz. For this purpose, first of all, the strengths and weaknesses, threats and opportunities of 17 SMEs operating in Luleburgaz district were determined by using the SWOT analysis technique. Then, based on the data obtained, 4 basic marketing strategies were developed by applying the expert opinion and using the SWARA method. These; (1) using quality materials and producing quality products to sell quality products, (2) developing a digital customer relationship management system, (3) engaging in digital and social media marketing activities, (4) reducing raw material costs

    Lisansüstü Eğitim Enstitüsü, Matematik ve Fen Bilimleri Ana Bilim Dalı, Fen Bilgisi Eğitimi Bilim DalıBu çalışmada, ortaöğretim 10. sınıf biyoloji dersinde işlenen Ekosistem Ekolojisi konusunun öğretilmesinde Öğrenme Amaçlı Yazma (ÖAY) aktivitelerinin öğrenmeye etkisi ve ÖAY aktiviteleri ile yürütülen ders sürecinin öğrenci görüşleri açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırmada karma yöntem araştırma desenlerinden açıklayıcı karma desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Bayburt Merkezde yer alan bir lisenin 10. sınıfında öğrenim gören 87 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak; Ön Bilgi Testi (ÖBT), Ekosistem Ekolojisi Başarı Testi (EEBT) ve yarı yapılandırılmış Görüşme Formu (GF) kullanılmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizinde normallik testlerinden Shapiro-Wilk Testi kullanılmıştır. Her iki testin veri dağılımlarının normal dağılım şartını sağlamamasına bağlı olarak testlere non-parametrik testlerden Kruskal-Wallis H testi ve Mann-Whitney U testi yapılmıştır. Nitel verilerin analizinde ise içerik analizi yönteminden yararlanılmıştır. EEBT'den elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda ÖAY aktivitelerinden mektubun ve günlüğün 10. sınıf öğrencilerinin Ekosistem Ekolojisi konusundaki başarılarını arttırdığı belirlenmiştir. Bu etkinliklerden mektup ve günlük dikkate alındığında mektup yazma etkinliğinin günlük yazma etkinliğine oranla akademik başarıya katkısının daha fazla olduğu belirlenmiştir. GF'den elde edilen verilerin analizinden ise öğrencilerin ÖAY aktivitelerine yönelik görüşlerinin olumlu olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Öğrenme amaçlı yazma, ekosistem ekoloji, mektup, günlük, akademik başarı.In this study, it is aimed to examine the effect of Writing to Learning (WTL) activities on learning in teaching the subject of Ecosystem Ecology, which is taught in the biology lesson in the 10th grade of secondary school, and the course process carried out with the WTL activities in terms of student views. In the research, explanatory mixed design, one of the mixed method research designs, was used. The study group of the research consists of 87 students studying in the 10th grade of a high school in the center of Bayburt in the spring term of the 2021-2022 academic year. As a data collection tool in the research; Preliminary Knowledge Test (PKT), Ecosystem Ecology Achievement Test (EEAT) and semi-structured Interview Form (IF) were used. Shapiro-Wilk Test, one of the normality tests, was used in the analysis of quantitative data. Due to the fact that the data distributions of both tests did not meet the normal distribution condition, Kruskal-Wallis H test and Mann-Whitney U test were applied to the tests, which are non-parametric tests. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of qualitative data. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the EEAT, it was determined that the letter and the diary from the activities of WTL increased the success of the 10th grade students in Ecosystem Ecology. Considering the letter and diary from these activities, it was determined that the letter writing activity contributed more to academic success than the diary writing activity. From the analysis of the data obtained from the IF, it was determined that the students' views on the WTL activities were positive.     A STUDY ON THE CONTACT PROBLEM OF A LAYER CONSISTING OF FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MATERIAL (FGM) IN THE PRESENCE OF BODY FORCE

    One of the most important components of the early design process for layered systems is gaining a knowledge of the behavior of materials under varied contact situations. Functionally graded materials (FGMs) have grown in popularity in layered systems as a result of their numerous benefits, such as permitting the reduction of local stress concentrations and thermal stresses often experienced in traditional composites. This paper suggests an analytical approach to solving the continuous and discontinuous contact problems of a functionally graded (FG) layer subjected to a distributed load. Elasticity theory and integral transform methods provide the basis of the aforementioned analytical approach. The FG layer rests on a half-plane that is homogeneous, and there is no adhesion or bonding at the contact surface. For this problem, we assume an exponentially varying shear modulus and mass density in the FG layer. In the solution, the body force of the FG layer is considered. The problem is solved analytically by applying boundary conditions for both continuous and discontinuous contact cases.
