Mixed series solution for vibration and stability of porous bi-directional functionally graded beams

    No full text
A new analytical solution based on the Ritz method is presented in this paper for analyzing the free vibration and buckling behavior of porous bi-directional functionally graded (2D-FG) beams under various boundary conditions. The solution is based on first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). The selection of solution functions used in Ritz methods distinguishes the methods from each other and determines the accuracy of the analytical solution. To accurately capture the system's behavior and achieve the desired results, these functions have been carefully selected as a combination of polynomial and trigonometric expressions tailored as mixed series functions for each boundary condition. The study considers three types of porosity, namely PFG-1, PFG-2, and PFG-3. The equations of motion are derived using Lagrange's principle, taking into account the power-law variation of the beam material components throughout the volume. The non-dimensional fundamental frequencies and critical buckling loads are calculated for different boundary conditions, gradation exponents in the x and z directions (p x , p z ), slenderness (L/h), porosity coefficient (e), and porosity types. Initially, the accuracy of the mixed series functions is investigated for non-porous bi-directional functionally graded beams, and the numerical results are compared with existing literature to validate the proposed solution. Subsequently, the paper focuses on analyzing the influence of porosity on the free vibration and buckling behavior of bi-directional functionally graded beams using the developed solution method.Bayburt UniversityNo Statement Availabl

    No full text
Cyberloafing can be defined as using technological devices for extracurricular activities during the lesson. The misuse of technological tools and facilities in educational environments causes many learning problems. One of the most important behaviors that cause this problem is cyberloafing. The explorative and main aim of the current study is to examine the reasons behind the cyberloafing behaviors of those who learn Turkish as a foreign language in terms of various variables and explore the phenomenological point of view of participants. The research was carried out in accordance with the convergent parallel mixed method design. The Cyberloafing Behaviors Scale was employed to collect quantitative data from a total of 207 students learning Turkish in 5 different ToMER (Teaching Turkish Center); in the process of qualitative data collection, open-ended questions formed by the researcher were used. For examining mean differences in terms of categorical variables t-test and separate ANOVAs were run. In ANOVAs, in order to minimize the possibility of error that may occur in the ANOVA test, type I error was controlled with Bonferroni correction. To determine predictors of cyberloafing behaviors of the study group multiple regression analysis was utilized. According to the findings of the current study, there was no significant difference between gender and time spent on social media and cyberloafing behavior; in the real-time updating dimension, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the B1 level and B2 and C1 levels. Having devices such as laptops stands out as the variable that predicts cyberloafing the most. It was also observed that cyberloafing behavior decreased as speaking skill increased. When the qualitative data was examined, the students stated that they were cyberloafing due to reasons such as messaging, sharing photos and videos because of boring lessons

Energy-driven TBM health status estimation with a hybrid deep learning approach

    No full text
This study provides a hybrid deep learning approach that enables the researchers to estimate the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) health status during excavation process using energy consumption data. By analyzing the energy forms and paths in the tunneling process, the key energy factors' consumption performance behavior affecting TBM safety is identified. The Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) method and a Convolution neural network-Long short term memory-Depth Neural Network (CNN-LSTM-DNN, CLDNN) model are integrated for Health Performance Parameter (HPP) prediction. A classification method is constructed by the Generative Adversarial Imputation Networks (GAIN) model for health status estimation. The SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method is performed to quantify the relationships between energy consumption and system health status. A tunneling case in Singapore is used to test the effectiveness of the developed methodology. It is found that (1) the proposed method provides TBM cutter wear and cooling oil prediction with a R-square (R2) of 0.8591 and 0.8727, respectively, and (2) classification results indicate that the estimation F1-score of 0.9863 can be achieved based on health status evaluation indicator (HSEI). The novelty of the proposed approach lies in its capabilities of (1) fully extracting and utilizing the energy consumption information in every regard to predict TBM health performance; (2) providing a good one-step-ahead health status estimation for the TBM excavation process. Therefore, this study proposes a feasible direction for the application of energy consumption data in TBM health status estimation.National Natural Science Foundation of China [72271101, 72201171]; Outstanding Youth Fund of Hubei Province [2022CFA062]; Start-Up Grant at Huazhong University of Science and TechnologyThis work is supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No. 72271101, No. 72201171), the Outstanding Youth Fund of Hubei Province (No. 2022CFA062), and the Start-Up Grant at Huazhong University of Science and Technology

    No full text
In this study, the relationship between foot medial arch height, age, height, body weight, body mass index (BMI), calf and thigh thickness and 100-meter and 3000-meter running performances in athletes was investigated. 28 athletes competing in national competitions, with an average age of 18.29±5.68 years, were included in the study on a voluntary basis. The right foot medial arch heights, heights, body weights, calf and thigh thicknesses of the participants were determined. BMI's were calculated. Also, 100 m and 3000 m. running times were determined. Data analyzes were performed using descriptive statistics and correlation tests. As a result of the analysis, 100 m running performance had a negative relationship with the values of height (r= -.377), body weight (r= -.466), BMI (r= -.428) and thigh circumference (r= -.433). It was observed that there was a relationship with the calf circumference measurement value (-.496) at the p0.05). On the other hand, 3000 m running performance was negatively affected by height (r= -.493), body weight (r= -.641), BMI (r= -.625) and calf girth thickness (r= -.623). It was determined that it showed significance at the p<0.01 level. It was also determined that there was a significant relationship with medial arch height in a negative direction (r = -.404) and at p < 0.05. As a result, it can be said that foot medial arch height, height, body weight, BMI, thigh and calf circumference thickness values are effective on short and medium distance running performances. © 2024 Nevzat Demirci.
