The Representation of the Grandmother in Arab American Fiction: Alia Younis’s the Night Counter as a Case Study
The increasing phenomenon of long-living grandparents and their novel roles and positions within both family and society in today’s world has inspired authors to produce literary works that address this subject. This article, in turn, aims to offer a clear representation of the grandmother’s character in Alia Younis’s The Night Counter (2009) by analyzing the various roles that the grandmother’s character plays in the lives of her grandchildren. As an Arab-American, Younis has an extensive background in the structure, norms, and values of the Arab Lebanese family, which are reflected in the novel. By choosing the grandmother as a central character, Younis highlights the vital role that the Arab grandmother plays in the lives of her American-born grandchildren. To achieve this, the article examines the multifaceted roles Fatima assumes as a surrogate mother and as a transmitter of native culture, as demonstrated in her relationships with her grandson Amir and her granddaughter Decimal. The analysis of these intergenerational relationships confirms the grandmother’s role as a reservoir of cultural heritage in The Night Counter (2009), portrayed as someone who persistently intervenes to re-educate and redirect her grandchildren towards native culture and away from American culture, sometimes leading to tensions and conflicts between the two generations
Les outils numériques au service des élèves en classe de français du second cycle qualifiant marocain : une perspective interculturelle
This article thoroughly explores the role of digital tools in the education of students in the qualifying second cycle in French class. Emphasizing an intercultural perspective, the study examines how technology can foster a deeper understanding of the cultural aspects related to learning French. We analyze the integration of digital tools into French lessons, highlighting the potential benefits they offer for strengthening linguistic skills while encouraging intercultural sensitivity. Students in the qualifying second cycle can thus benefit from a more enriching and contextualized learning experience. This exploration aims to demonstrate how digital tools can serve as catalysts for intercultural understanding, thereby promoting a more inclusive and diversified educational environment. By examining the opportunities and challenges associated with this approach, we aim to provide practical recommendations for optimizing the use of digital tools in the service of French learning in an intercultural context in the qualifying second cycle. The diversity of resources and digital tools available online for teaching and learning French as a foreign language is a testament to the dynamism of Francophones in the field of information and communication technologies for education (ICT)
Matrix ou la dualité technologique dans les films américains postapocalyptiques : entre extermination humaine et création cinématographique
American post-apocalyptic films have long been rich terrains for cinematic exploration, where technology plays an ambivalent role as both an agent of destruction and a creator of a distinct cinematic genre. This study examines the investment in technology within the context of post-apocalyptic films, exploring how it contributes to the representation of human extermination while being a central element in the creation of this genre. We focus on the film The Matrix by the Wachowski siblings as the studied corpus. The aim of this article is to analyze how technology is portrayed as an existential threat contributing to the extermination of humanity in the post-apocalyptic science fiction film The Matrix. درجة ممارسة مديري المدارس الحكومية للأساليب الإشرافية الحديثة وعلاقتها بالروح المعنوية عند المعلمين
هدف المقال إلى التعرف على درجة ممارسة مديري المدارس الحكومية للأساليب الإشرافية الحديثة وعلاقتها بالروح المعنوية عند المعلمين لدى مديرية تربية لواء الموقر، ولغايات تحقيق أهداف الدراسة الحالية تم استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي لملاءمته لنوع الدراسة، حيث تم تطوير استبانة لجمع البيانات من العينة التي تم اخيارها بالطريقة العشوائية من مجتمع الدراسة المكون من المعلمين في مديرية تربية لواء الموقر والبالغ عددهم (1176) معلما ومعلمة، وذلك على عينة قوامها (290) معلماً ومعلمة، وأظهرت نتائج الدراسة وجود علاقة ذات دلالة إحصائية للأساليب الإشرافية الحديثة بأبعادها المتمثلة في (الدروس النموذجية، الزيارة المدرسية، المشاغل التربوية) على الروح المعنوية عند المعلمين لدى مديرية تربية الموقر، كما أوصت الدراسة بضرورة إعداد برامج تدريبية لتطوير الأساليب الإشرافية الحديثة لدى مديري المدارس الحكومية، وتهيئة البيئة المناسبة لجميع المعلمين في المدارس الحكومية لمساعدتهم على الإبداع والتطوير والابتكار
The article aimed to identify the degree of public school principals\u27 practice of modern supervisory methods and its relationship to the morale of teachers at the Directorate of Education of the Muwaqqar Brigade. Randomly from the study population consisting of teachers in the Education Directorate of Al-Muwaqqar District, whose number is (1176) male and female teachers, on a sample of (290) male and female teachers, For the purposes of statistical analysis, the results of the study showed a statistically significant relationship of the modern supervisory methods with their dimensions represented in (exemplary lessons, school visits, educational concerns) on the morale of teachers in public schools in Irbid governorate. The study also recommended the need to prepare training programs to develop supervisory methods. درجة تأثير تكنولوجيا التعلم الرقمي على النمو المعرفي والمستوى التعليمي لطلبة المرحلة الأساسية
هدف المقال التعرف على درجة تأثير تكنولوجيا التعلم الرقمي على النمو المعرفي والمستوى التعليمي لطلبة مرحلة الصفوف الثلاث الأولى في مديرية التربية والتعليم بمنطقة الزرقاء الأولى، وتمحورت مشكلة الدراسة للكشف عن درجة تأثير تكنولوجيا التعلم الرقمي على النمو المعرفي والمستوى التعليمي، وقد قامت الباحثة في استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي في الحصول على المعلومات واستخدام الاستبيان كأداة لجمع المعلومات، حيث قامت بتوزيع الاستبيان على المعلمين في منطقة الزرقاء الأولى وبلغ عددهم (500) معلم ومعلمة، وتوصلت الى عدة نتائج أبرزها وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية (α = 0.05) تعزى لأثر الجنس، وعدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية تعزى لأثر سنوات الخبرة العلمية والمؤهل العلمي، وفي ظل النتائج قامت بتقديم عدة توصيات أهمها وضع خطط استراتيجية لتطبيق تكنولوجيا التعلم الرقمي واثره على التعلم المعرفي والمستوى التعليمي لدى طلبة المدارس، وتوفير الميزانيات اللازمة لشراء المواد التعليمية وإنتاجها والعمل على إدخال التقنيات التعليمية في جميع المدارس في المملكة الاردنية الهاشمية.
The article aimed to identify the degree of impact of digital learning technology on the cognitive growth and educational level of students of the first three grades in the Directorate of Education in the first Zarqa region, and the problem of the study revolved to reveal the degree of impact of digital learning technology on cognitive growth and educational level, and the researcher used the descriptive analytical approach in obtaining information and using the questionnaire as a tool to collect information, as she distributed the questionnaire to teachers in the first Zarqa area, and their number reached (500) Male and female teacher, and reached several results, most notably the existence of statistically significant differences (α = 0.05) due to the impact of sex, and the absence of statistically significant differences due to the impact of years of scientific experience and scientific qualification, and in light of the results it made several recommendations, the most important of which is the development of strategic plans for the application of digital learning technology and its impact on cognitive learning and the educational level of school students, and the provision of budgets for the purchase and production of educational materials and work to introduce educational technologies in all schools in The Hashemite Kingdom of Jorda
التطور المهني لمعلمي الرياضيات في ضوء أهداف التنمية المستدامة 2030
هدفت الدراسة الكشف عن التطور المهني لمعلمي الرياضيات في قصبة المفرق (الأردن) في ضوء أهداف التنمية المستدامة (2030)، حيث بلغت عينة الدراسة (150) من معلمي الرياضيات بمديرية تربية وتعليم قصبة المفرق، واستخدمت الدراسة استبانة التنمية المستدامة، واستبانة التطور المهني واتَّبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي، وتوصَّلت الدراسة إلى أنَّ نسبة التطور المهني لدى معلمي الرياضيات التي بلغت (80.2%) وهو مستوى مرتفع ، وأنَّ نسبة وعي معلمي الرياضيات بأهداف التنمية المستدامة بلغت (80.2%) وهو مستوى مرتفع ، وأنَّ معامل الارتباط بيرسون بين التطور المهني وأهداف التنمية المستدامة يساوي (0.342) وهو معامل ارتباط إيجابي مما يعني أنَّ العلاقة طردية، وتوجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين متوسطات أهداف التنمية المستدامة، والتطور المهني لدى معلمي الرياضيات تعزى لمتغير الجنس لصالح الإناث، وأنه لا توجد فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين متوسطات أهداف التنمية المستدامة، والتطور المهني لدى معلمي الرياضيات تعزى لمتغير سنوات الخبرة لجميع الأبعاد.وأوصت الدراسة بضرورة تبني سياسات واضحة للتطوير المهني للمعلمين في البيئة التعليمية لتحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة (2030).
The study aimed to reveal the professional development of mathematics teachers in Mafraq Governorate in light of the Sustainable Development Goals (2030). The study sample amounted to (150) mathematics teachers in the Mafraq Governorate Education Directorate. The study used the Sustainable Development Questionnaire and the Professional Development Questionnaire. The study followed the descriptive approach. The study concluded that the level of mathematics teachers professional development reached (80.2%), which is a high level, and the mathematics teachers\u27 awareness of the Sustainable Development reached (80.2%), which is a high level. The Pearson correlation coefficient between professional development and the Sustainable Development Goals is (0.342), which is a positive correlation coefficient, meaning that the relationship is directly proportional. There are statistically significant differences between the averages of the Sustainable Development Goals and the professional development of mathematics teachers attributed to the gender variable in favor of females, and that there are no statistically significant differences between the averages of the Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainable, and professional development of mathematics teachers is attributed to the variable of years of experience for all dimensions. The study recommended the necessity of adopting clear policies for the professional development of teachers in the educational environment to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (2030)
A Comparative Study of Cleaning Methods across Various Dust Types: Optimizing Cleaning Techniques for Dust-Affected Photovoltaic Panels
Solar energy is increasingly crucial for generating electricity and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. However, the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) panels is substantially affected by dust accumulation. This research aims to enhance the performance and longevity of solar panels by evaluating various eco-friendly cleaning techniques for different dust types: Yellow Sand, Normal Dust, and Mud. The methods tested include low, medium, and high-water flow rates, medium flow rates with a wiper, compressed medium flow, and air blowing. Key performance metrics such as temperature, current, voltage, and power were measured before and after cleaning to assess effectiveness. The results demonstrate that low water flow rates were the most effective method for Yellow Sand, achieving a 24.21% increase in power output and an 18.63% increase in current. In contrast, this method provided only moderate improvement for Mud, with a 20.1% increase in power and 16% in current, and was least effective for Normal Dust, showing minor gains of 5.77% in power and 4.26% in current. Medium flow rates with a wiper proved particularly beneficial for Normal Dust, resulting in a 62% increase in power and 54.8% in current, while high flow rates yielded significant improvements for Mud (157.3% in power) and Normal Dust (95.7% in power). Compressed medium flow rates performed exceptionally well for Mud, with a 151.48% increase in power and a 142.92% boost in current. Air blowing, while generally effective across all dust types, was especially advantageous in scenarios where water conservation is essential. These findings highlight the importance of tailoring cleaning strategies to specific dust types for optimal PV panel performance. Future research should explore hybrid cleaning approaches, assess long-term impacts on panel durability, and conduct cost-benefit analyses to refine and optimize cleaning methods for enhancing the efficiency and durability of solar installations
Effect of Dual-fuelled CNG and Gasoline on Spark Ignition engine performance and Emissions behaviors at different loads
Engine emissions are one of numerous factors that have detrimentally affected the environment, such as global warming, which is the result of growing exhaust gases, practically carbon dioxide (CO2). These emissions have substantially influenced researchers to develop strategic initiatives to minimize the carbon contents of fuels. The purpose of this research is to investigate the characteristics of internal combustion (SI) engines fueled by gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) blends. The experiments are performed using a HONDA 4-stroke, single-cylinder, and air-cooled SI engine. Five CNG concentrations are evaluated, the concentrations range from 0.5 to 2.5 L/min with a 0.5 L/min step increase. In addition, an electrical loading board contains ten lamps of 0.5 KW power and 8 KVA Variac is used to generate and control the load. The exhaust emission factor, exhaust Gases temperature (Tex), brake thermal efficiency (BTE), and brake specific fuel combustion (BSFC) are parametric indicators of engine efficiency. The best blend ratio was 1.0 L/min, which improved the average thermal efficiency to 22.1% compared to gasoline at 17.77%, resulting in a 24.42% improvement
A Greening the Diesel: Vegetable Oil Biodiesel Blends for Cleaner Emissions and Improved Direct Injection Diesel Engine performance
In this study, we conducted comprehensive experiments to assess and compare the performance of pure diesel fuel against biodiesel produced from corn oil in various blend ratios (15/85, 30/70, 45/55, and 60/40) in a conventional four-stroke, direct-injection diesel engine, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber at the end of the compression stroke, allowing for efficient combustion and power generation over four distinct phases: intake, compression, power, and exhaust. Each fuel blend was tested at an engine speed of 16,000 rpm across different load conditions (low, medium, and high). Key performance metrics, including volumetric fuel consumption, exhaust smoke, and emissions of regulated gases such as nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and total unburned hydrocarbons (HC), were systematically measured. From these measurements, specific fuel consumption and brake thermal efficiency were derived. We analyzed the differences in performance and emissions between the various blends and pure diesel fuel to better understand the impact of vegetable oil incorporation. Additionally, theoretical principles in diesel engine combustion, considering the unique physical and chemical properties of each fuel blend, were employed to facilitate a nuanced interpretation of the observed engine performance and emissions
The Role of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in Developing Teaching Strategies from the Perspective of Teachers and Principals in Governorate Schools
The study aimed to identify the role of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in developing teaching strategies among teachers from the perspective of principals in governorate schools. The study population consisted of all principals of public schools in Ajloun Governorate, totaling 130 female and male principals. The study sample consisted of 62 principals, chosen using the simple random method. The results indicated that the role of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) in developing teaching strategies among teachers, from the perspective of principals in governorate schools, was regarded as high. Additionally, the results showed significant differences in the average responses of the study sample members regarding the role of PLCs in developing teaching strategies due to the variable of experience, favoring those with less than 10 years of experience.
