Methanandamide diminish the Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide induced response in human periodontal ligament cells
BackgroundThe endocannabinoid system is involved in the regulation of
periodontal tissue homeostasis. Synthetic cannabinoid methanandamide
(Meth-AEA) has improved stability and affinity to cannabinoid receptors
compared to its endogenous analog anandamide. In the present study, we
investigated the effect of methanandamide on the production of
pro-inflammatory mediators in primary human periodontal ligament cells
(hPdLCs).MethodshPdLCs were treated with Meth-AEA for 24h, and the
resulting production of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and monocyte
chemotactic protein (MCP)-1 was measured in the absence or the presence
of Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Additionally, the
effect of Meth-AEA on the proliferation/viability of hPdLCs was measured
by the MTT method.ResultsMethanandamide at a concentration of 10 mu M
significantly inhibited P. gingivalis LPS induced production of IL-6,
IL-8, and MCP-1. Basal production of IL-6 and IL-8 was slightly enhanced
by 10 mu M Meth-AEA. No effect of Meth-AEA on the basal production of
MCP-1 was observed. Meth-AEA in concentrations up to 10 mu M did not
affect the proliferation/viability of hPdLCs, but significantly
inhibited it at a concentration of 30 mu M.ConclusionOur study suggests
that the inflammatory response in periodontal ligament cells could be
influenced by the activation of the cannabinoid system, which might be
potentially involved in the progression of periodontal disease

The Effect Of Current Type On The Metallurgıcal Propertıes Of The Materıal In The Shıelded Metal Arc Weldıng
Gerçekleştirilen çalışmada, 2 mm kalınlığa sahip olan AISI 1005 düşük karbonlu çelik
levhalar, invertör tip TIG kaynak makinası ve örtülü elektrot kullanılarak alın alına
birleştirilmişlerdir. Levhalar hem doğru akım hem de üç farklı frekansta darbeli akım
altında kaynak edilmişlerdir. Örtülü elektrot tercihinden ötürü, birleştirmelerde koruyucu
gaz atmosferi veya ilave metal kullanılmamıştır. Doğru akım ile darbeli akımın kaynaklı
birleştirmeye olan etkilerini kıyaslamak ve uygulanan farklı darbe frekanslarının kaynaklı
birleştirmenin mekanik özelliklerine olan etkilerini görmek amacıyla kaynaklanan
levhalardan numuneler alınmıştır. Bu numunelere makro sertlik testi uygulanmış ve
numunelerin elde edilen mikroyapı görüntüleri incelenmiştir. Gerçekleştirilen deneyler
ışığında TIG kaynak makinası ve donanımıyla örtülü elektrot kullanılarak da kaynaklı
birleştirme işleminin başarıyla yapılabileceği görülmüştür. Yapılan test ve incelemeler
sonucunda ise, darbeli akımın etkisiyle kaynak metali tane yapısının inceldiği, daha iyi bir
nüfuziyet elde edildiği, levha kalınlıkları ince olmasına rağmen herhangi bir çarpılma veya
delinme yaşanmadığı, duman oluşumunun azaldığı ve kaynak dikişinin daha nizami bir
forma sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca ortalama aynı kaynak hızında ve aynı alt ve üst
darbe akımlarında darbe frekansının artması sonucu, soğuma hızına bağlı olarak, kaynak
metali tane yapısının inceldiği ve sertliğinin daha büyük oranda arttığı gözlemlenmiştirIn this study, AISI 1005 low carbon steel plates with 2 mm thickness are joined face to
face using inverter type TIG welding machine and shielded electrode. The plates were
welded under both direct current and pulse current at three different frequencies. Because
of the choice of shielded electrodes, no shielding gas atmosphere or additional metal was
used in the joints. Samples were taken from the welded plates in order to compare the
effects of direct current and pulsed current on welded jointing and to see the effects of
different pulse frequencies applied on the mechanical properties of welded jointing. Macro
hardness test was applied to these samples and microstructure images of these samples
were examined. In the light of the experiments performed, it has been seen that welded
jointing process can be performed successfully by using shielded electrode with TIG
welding machine and equipment. As a result of the tests and investigations, it was
determined that the grain structure of the weld metal was thinned with the effect of pulsed
current, a better penetration was obtained, although the plate thicknesses were thin, there
was no distortion or puncture, the formation of smoke decreased and the weld seam had a
more regular form. In addition, it was observed that due to the cooling rate, the weld metal
grain structure became thinner and the hardness increased more as a result of the increase
of the pulse frequency at the same welding speed, the same lower and upper pulse current

Assessment of relationship between the surface temperatures and built-up urban environment in Ankara city center
Aim: This study focuses on determining relationship between the surface
temperatures of Ankara (Turkey) thermal load in this regard and built-up
environment of city using Local Climate Zone system.
Methodology: This study consists of two basic stages. formation of
thermal load map and analysis of relationship between surface
temperatures, the LCZs, and the built-up environment by determining
these LCZs. Firstly, metadata from Landsat 8-OLI satellite images were
used to perform the surface temperature analysis, than building surface
fractions, and building height figures were analyzed, and the thermal
load in the area was determined. Pearson's correlation analysis was
performed to assess the relationship between surface temperature,
building surface fraction and building height. One-way analysis of
variance (ANOVA) was conducted to see difference between the surface
temperatures regarding LCZs. Tukey's test, one of multiple comparison
(Post Hoc) tests used in one-way variance analysis, was performed to
compare the groups with each other.
Results: According to assessment of surface temperatures by LCZs, the
lowest temperature (33.0 degrees C) was seen in LCZ-A with a dense tree
pattern, while the highest value (44.5 degrees C) was detected in LCZ-8
which had buildings with low stories on a broad base and impervious
neighboring areas. This study evaluated whether there was a relationship
between surface temperature, building fractions, and building height in
terms of LCZs. A relationship was found between the surface temperatures
and building surface fraction in LCZ-2 and LCZ-5, but no relationship
was present in other zones. There was a relationship between the surface
temperature and building height in LCZ-3 and LCZ-5, however, no
relationship was found in other zones.
Interpretation: The Local Climate Zone system developed by Oke and
Stewart should be supported by technical research and field studies, and
should be adapted in Turkish cities
Assessment Of Pullout Capacıty Of Geocell By Laboratory Pullout Tests
Bu çalışma kapsamında hücresel yapı elemanları ile zemin arasındaki sürtünme davranışının incelenmesi amacıyla laboratuvar çekme deneyleri kullanılmış ve elde edilen deneysel sonuçlar kullanılarak sürtünme davranışı hem teorik hem de analitik olarak ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca belirlenen zemin-hücresel yapı elemanı sürtünme davranışı ile model duvar deneyleri üzerinde yükleme deneyleri yapılarak duvar davranışları incelenmiştir. Çekme deneyleri farklı düşey gerilmeler altında, boyutları ve rijitlikleri değişen hücresel yapı elemanları üzerinde, toplamda 55 adet olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Zemin ortamına gömülmüş hücresel yapı elemanlarının çekme kapasiteleri deney sonuçlarına göre teorik olarak belirlenmiş ve elde edilen teorik yaklaşım ile deneysel sonuçlar arasında oldukça iyi bir uyum olduğu gözlenmiştir. Hücresel yapı elemanlarının sürtünme davranışını modelleyebilmek amacıyla, uygulanan çekme deneyleri sonucunda elde edilen yük deplasman davranışları, çekme gerilmesi- deplasmanı grafiklerine dönüştürülerek, yeni bir sürtünme davranışı modelinin oluşturulabilmesi için bu grafikler genelleştirilmiştir. Deneysel çalışmada ölçülen birim deformasyon değerleri kullanılarak elde edilen maksimum çekme gerilmesi değerleri ile düşey gerilme ve hücresel yapı elemanları boyutları arasında genel bir ilişki ortaya konmuştur. Ayrıca çekme gerilmesi- deplasman eğrileri genelleştirildikten sonra, bu eğrilerde önemli değerler olan maksimum çekme gerilmesindeki deplasman ve nihai deplasman değerleri de düşey gerilme ve hücresel yapı elemanı boyutlarına bağlı olarak belirlenmiştir. Çekme yüklerine maruz kalan hücresel yapı elemanlarının sürtünme davranışı çekme kuvveti etkisindeki yapı tasarımlarda kullanılmak üzere çekme gerilmesi- deplasmanı ilişkilerini ortaya koyan genelleştirilmiş eşitlikler elde edilmiştir. Çekme kapasiteleri ve sürtünme davranışı belirlenen hücresel yapı elemanlarının bir istinat duvarı üzerinde donatı elemanı olarak performansının belirlenmesi amacıyla laboratuvarda model duvar deneyleri yapılmıştır. Hücresel yapı elemanının performansı, model duvar üzerinde geoşerit ve geoşerit-hücresel yapı elemanları kullanılarak karşılaştırılmıştır.In the scope of this study, laboratory pullout tests were used to examine the friction behavior between geocell and the soil, and friction behavior was determined both theoretically and analytically using the experimental results obtained. Moreover, the soil-geocell friction behavior and foundation loading tests were performed on model wall tests and wall behaviors were investigated. A total of 55 laboratory pullout tests were carried out under different normal stresses, on geocell of varying sizes and stiffness. The pullout capacities of the geocell embedded in the soil were determined theoretically according to the experimental results and it was observed that there was a good agreement between the obtained theoretical approach and the experimental results. In order to model the friction behavior of the geocell in the soil, bond stress-displacements graphs have been generalized in order to create a new friction behavior model by transforming the load displacement behaviors. A general relationship between the maximum bond stress values obtained using the strain values measured in the experimental study and the dimensions of geocell reinforcements and the normal stress has been revealed. In addition, after the bond stress-displacement curves have been generalized, the displacement and ultimate displacement values at the maximum bond stress, which are important values in these curves, have also been determined depending on the dimensions of the geocell and normal stress. Generalized equations that reveal from the bond stress-displacement relationships are used in retaining wall designs. Moreover, model wall experiments were carried out in the laboratory in order to determine the performance of geocell whose pullout capacities and friction behavior were determined as reinforcement elements on a retaining wall. European Society of Gynaecological Oncology quality indicators for surgical treatment of cervical cancer
Background Optimizing and ensuring the quality of surgical care is
essential to improve the management and outcome of patients with
cervical cancer. To develop a list of quality indicators for surgical
treatment of cervical cancer that can be used to audit and improve
clinical practice. Methods Quality indicators were developed using a
four-step evaluation process that included a systematic literature
search to identify potential quality indicators, in-person meetings of
an ad hoc group of international experts, an internal validation
process, and external review by a large panel of European clinicians and
patient representatives. Results Fifteen structural, process, and
outcome indicators were selected. Using a structured format, each
quality indicator has a description specifying what the indicator is
measuring. Measurability specifications are also detailed to define how
the indicator will be measured in practice. Each indicator has a target
which gives practitioners and health administrators a quantitative basis
for improving care and organizational processes. Discussion
Implementation of institutional quality assurance programs can improve
quality of care, even in high-volume centers. This set of quality
indicators from the European Society of Gynaecological Cancer may be a
major instrument to improve the quality of surgical treatment of
cervical cancer
