    OAN: outlier record-oriented utility-based privacy preserving model

    Data privacy is a hard trade-off problem between privacy level and data utility. Anonymization is one of the most commonly used utility-based solutions for preserving data privacy. The existence of outliers in data set decreases data utility in anonymization. Hence, outliers should be managed in the anonymization process. In traditional approaches, outliers are detected after anonymization and they are partially or completely removed from the published data set. However, detection of outliers after anonymization increases computational cost and the removal of the outliers from the data set reduces total utility. In this study, a new outlier record-oriented utility-based privacy-preserving model named as OAN, which reduces the computational cost by detecting outliers before anonymization and increases data utility by using all data, was proposed. It was shown that OAN is an effective solution in terms of computational cost compared to another utility-based model. According to the experimental results, it was observed that the proposed model increased total data utility while preserving the privacy of data

    Liquid and gas phase mass transfer coefficients and interfacial area in a column equipped with structured packing

    Studies on CO2 removal and structured packed columns have been prominent in recent years. This study, as the first stage on this subject, involves characterization studies including hydrodynamics and mass transfer coefficients of a new genuine structured packed column designed and manufactured by our own facilities, which can be used for this purpose. Firstly, the maximum and minimum limits of the gas and liquid velocities that can be employed in the column were determined by specifying the loading and flooding points through pressure drop measurements. Accordingly, the superficial velocity ranges for liquid and gas were identified as 0.002-0.0047 {[}m/s] and 0.07-0.68 {[}m/s], respectively. The individual volumetric physical mass transfer coefficients of the liquid side (k(L)(0)a) and gas side (k(c)(0)a) were obtained experimentally in these ranges. Overall volumetric physical mass transfer coefficients (K(c)(0)a) were calculated for CO2-water system according to the two-resistance theory. The experiments were also performed with CO2-NaOH system, and overall volumetric chemical mass transfer coefficients (K(c)a), Hatta number (Ha) and enhancement factor (E) were determined. The experimental findings indicated that the fast pseudo-first order reaction regime was acceptable for this chemical absorption. Finally, the effective interfacial area (a(eff)) values were also determined at different gas and liquid velocities

    Biosorption, isotherm and kinetic properties of common textile dye by Phormidium animale

    In this study, the potential textile dye biosorption capacity of a low-cost biosorbent (P. animale) was tested as functions of pH, biosorbent type, initial dye concentration, temperature, contact time and biosorbent dosage at batch scale level. The optimal conditions are 2, dried biosorbent, 93.16 mg/L, 45 degrees C, 1440 minutes and 4 g/L for pH, biosorbent type, initial dye concentration, temperature, contact time and adsorbent dosage, respectively. Dried P. animale removed 99.66 \% of Remazol Black B (RBB). The isotherm and kinetic models were analyzed for biosorption mechanism and characteristic. According to the results, Langmuir isotherm and pseudo second order kinetic models were compatible with the experimental data obtained for RBB biosorption on algal biosorbent. Also FTIR and elemental analysis were done and resulted that the functional groups on the surface of algae had significant role in biosorption process. The results of this study supported that P. animale is an effective, inexpensive and eco-friendly biosorbent for treatment of textile dye wastewater

    Nasopharyngeal pneumococcal carriage in healthy Turkish children after 13-valent conjugated pneumococcal vaccine implementation in the national immunization program

    Background: In Turkey, pneumococcal conjugated vaccine (PCV) was introduced to the national immunization program as PCV7 in 2008, and was replaced with PCV13 in 2011. The aims of this study wereto investigate the effects of PCV13 on nasopharyngeal pneumococcal carriage (NPC) by determining theserotype distribution, and to identify risk factors for carriage, in healthy Turkish children. Methods: This prospective study was conducted on 500 healthy children aged 0-13 years between Apriland November 2014. Nasopharyngeal swab samples were taken, and molecular method for capsularserotyping was performed by multiplex PCR. Results: Of 500 children, 43.4\% were unvaccinated with a PCV (7- or 13-valent), 56.6\% were vaccinatedand The NPC rate was found to be 9.8\%. Of 49 positive Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates, 26 (53\%) werePCV13 vaccine strains (VSs), and 17 (34.7\%) were non-VS. Six isolates (12.2\%) were not typeable by themethod applied. The most common serotypes detected were serotype 3 (18.3\%), serotype 19F (14.2\%), serotype 6A/B (8.1\%), serotype 11A (8.1\%), and serotype 15B (8.1\%). The total coverage rate of the PCV13serotypes was 60.4\%. Conclusion: A significant decrease in carriage rate was detected within three years after the introductionof PCV13 in Turkey. However, the nasopharyngeal carriage of PCV13 strains was found to be interestinglyhigh. (c) 2019 The Authors.
