    The Therapeutic Potential of Anthocyanins: Current Approaches Based on Their Molecular Mechanism of Action

    Anthocyanins are natural phenolic pigments with biological activity. They are well-known to have potent antioxidant and antiinflammatory activity, which explains the various biological effects reported for these substances suggesting their antidiabetic and anticancer activities, and their role in cardiovascular and neuroprotective prevention. This review aims to comprehensively analyze different studies performed on this class of compounds, their bioavailability and their therapeutic potential. An in-depth look in preclinical,in vitroandin vivo, and clinical studies indicates the preventive effects of anthocyanins on cardioprotection, neuroprotection, antiobesity as well as their antidiabetes and anticancer effects

    Determining the Effect of Intervention and Intervention Packages on the Reading Fluency and Comprehension of Lower Secondary School Students with Mental Retardation

    This study aimed at identifying to what extent skill- and performance-based interventions and intervention packages affect the reading fluency and comprehension of the students with mental retardation and analyzing the results of Brief Experimental Analysis (BEA) with Extended Analysis (EA). Five different interventions and/or intervention packages were used to determine the correct number of words and reading comprehension levels of three students with mental retardation. Findings indicated that the effect of intervention and/or intervention packages differed for students. It was found that intervention packages, which increased students' reading fluency, also increased reading comprehension of two students. Moreover, it was observed that using multiple interventions together on reading fluency and comprehension showed more effective results than using a single intervention. Based on the results, it was discussed and suggested that teachers should include interventions based on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation as well as interventions based on skills in order to improve the reading fluency and comprehension skills of students with mental retardation at lower secondary school level

    Permaculture Desıgn Potantıal In The Urban Settlement: Burdur Karamanlı Example

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, ağırlıklı olarak kırsal olan Karamanlı ilçesinde permakültür ekseninde yapılabilecek potansiyel tasarımları ortaya koyarak; gıda üretimi, toprak kullanımı, su tutma, hayvan ve evsel atıkların değerlendirilmesi ve yenilenebilir enerji kullanımı konularında öneriler sunmaktır. Doğal sistemleri örnek alan bir tasarım bilimi olan permakültür, günümüz kentlerinin sürdürülebilir bir şekilde gelişmesi için son derece değerlidir. Bu bağlamda, permakültür kavramına ilişkin kapsamlı bir literatür taraması yapıldıktan sonra permakültür anlayışını hayata geçirmiş olan örnek kentler incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın uygulama kısmında yerleşim yerine yönelik olarak çeşitli analiz çalışmaları yapılmış ve tespitlerde bulunulmuştur. Çalışmanın sonucunda, yürürlükteki imar planı kararları doğrultusunda Karamanlı’da uygulanabilecek öneri permakültür tasarımları ortaya konulmuştur. Bu kapsamda ilk olarak, kaynakların yerinde ve etkin kullanımını sağlamak ve yerel potansiyeli harekete geçirmek amacı ile içerisinde; seralar, atölyeler, kompost tesisi ve yerel ürün pazarı olan bir “eko-yerleşke kurma’’ önerisi getirilmiştir. Daha sonraki uygulama olarak, permakültürün en önemli kavramlarından olan “zon-mıntıka” kavramı, kentin yürürlükteki imar planına uyarlanmıştır. Buna göre, 0.zon olarak konut alanları, 1.zon olarak sosyal tesis bahçeleri ve parklar, 2.zon olarak ulaşım bağlantıları, 3.zon olarak tarım alanları, 4.zon olarak sanayi alanları ve 5.zon olarak da orman alanları belirlenmiştir. Konut alanlarında kompost kutuları veya yığınları hazırlama, çatılara güneş panelleri yerleştirme, çatıdan su toplama veya yağmur bahçesi kurma, park ve bahçelerde malçlama, kompost kullanımı, gıda ormanı ve biyolojik göletler, yeşil yürüyüş yolları, bisiklet yolları ve yağmur hendekleri oluşturma, tarım alanlarında doğrudan ekim, doğal gübre kullanımı ve rüzgar perdesi uygulaması, sanayi alanlarında geri dönüşüm ve rehabilitasyon, orman alanlarında biyoçeşitliliği koruma gibi permakültür uygulamaları yapılması önerilmiştir.The purpose of this study is to reveal the potential designs that can be made on the permaculture axis in the Karamanlı district, which is predominantly rural; to suggestions on on food production, soil use, water retention, evaluation of animal and domestic waste and efficient energy use. Permaculture, a design science that takes the natural systems as a model, is extremely valuable for the sustainable development of today's cities. In this context, after a comprehensive literature review on permaculture concept, sample cities which have realized permaculture have been examined. In the application part of the study, various analysis studies have been made for the settlement and determinations have been made. As a result of the study, permaculture designs that can be applied in Karamanlı have been put forward in accordance with the current zoning plan decisions. In this context, firstly, in order to ensure the efficient use of resources and to mobilize the local potential; an “eco-campus establishment” with greenhouses, workshops, compost plant and local product market has been proposed. As a further practice, the concept of ‘zone’ ın, which is one of the most important concepts of permaculture, has been adapted to the current zoning plan of the city. According to this, housing areas as 0th zone, social facility gardens and parks as 1th zone, transportation connections as 2th zone, agricultural areas as 3th zone, industrial areas as 4th zone and forest areas as 5th zone has been determined. Preparing compost boxes or stacks in the residential areas, installing solar panels on the roofs, collecting water from the roof and building a rain garden; mulching, composting, food forest and biological ponds in park-gardens; green walking paths, bicycle paths and rain ditches in transport links; direct sowing, wind curtain and use of natural fertilizers in agricultural areas; recycling and rehabilitation in industrial areas; biodiversity conservation in forest areas and similar permaculture applications have been suggeste

    Otomatik konuşma tanıma (OKT), konuşma sinyallerinin girdi olarak alınması ve bilgisayarlar tarafından işlenebilmesi için metne dönüştürülmesi işlemidir. OKT uygulamaları çok yönlü ve gerçek hayatta yaygın olarak kullanılmasına rağmen, gürültülü ortamlarda, kelime dağarcığı büyümesi veya konuşma sinyalinin kalitesiz olması durumlarında yazımsal hatalar üretme eğilimindedirler. Bu çalışmada, OKT sistemlerinin üretmiş olduğu çıktılardaki hataların tespit edilmesi ve düzeltilmesi için alternatif hipotez önerisi yaklaşımına dayalı özgün bir model önerilmiştir. Hatalı kelimeleri belirleme, düzeltilebilir olanları seçme ve bu kelimelerin düzeltileceği aday sözcüklerin belirlenmesi gibi bir dizi işlem adımı içermektedir. Aday sözcüklerin belirlenmesinde “Levensthein” algoritması ve bu çalışma için hazırlanmış olan “Türkçe şablon kelimeler veritabanı” kullanılmaktadır. Önerilen modelin etkinliği, verimliliği ve sunduğu katkı düzeyi Uzun Kısa Süreli Bellek (UKSB) ve Geçitli Tekrarlayan Birim (GTB) bellek yapısının kullanıldığı uçtan uca Türkçe OKT sistemi ile test edilmiştir. Yapılan testler sonucunda, konuşma tanıma sisteminin performansı %4,60 oranında artış göstermiştir. 100 ve 500 kelime içeren sözcük dağarcığı ile yapılan testlerde sırasıyla %99,2 ve %80,3 oranında doğru tanıma performansı yakalanmıştır.Automatic speech recognition (ASR) is the process of receiving speech signals as input and converting them into text for processing by computers. Although ASR applications are versatile and widely used in real life, they tend to produce spelling errors in noisy environments, increase of vocabulary size, or poor speech signals. In this study, an original model based on alternative hypothesis suggestion approach is proposed to detect and correct erroneous outputs produced by ASR systems. The method involves a series of processing steps, such as identifying the erroneous words, selecting the ones that can be corrected, and selecting candidate words to correction. “Levenshtein” algorithm and Turkish template words database prepared for this study are used in determining candidate words. The effectiveness, efficiency and contribution level of this proposed model has been tested with an end-to-end Turkish ASR system using Long short term memory and Gated recurrent unit memory structure. As a result of the tests, the performance of the speech recognition system has increased by 4,60%. In tests performed with vocabulary containing 100 and 500 words, 99,2% and 80,3% correct recognition performance were obtained, respectively

    Investigation of rheological and mechanical properties of kaolin-clay modified bitumen

    In this study, 50/70 penetration grade bitumen has been modified by the addition of kaolin which is a kind of clay obtained from granite rocks and which is known as pure clay in Turkey. The changes in rheological properties of bitumen with the addition of kaolin, varying between ratios of 1\% to 4\%, have been examined through rotational viscosity, penetration, softening point and ductility tests. It was determined that the addition of kaolin increased viscosity and softening point and decreased penetration of the bitumen. The penetration index (PI) values of bitumens were calculated through penetration and softening point results, and kaolin was found to increase PI values. The effects of kaolin on mechanical properties were evaluated by Nicholson stripping and Marshall tests. The test results showed that enhancement in Marshall Stability values were reached to 11.2\% with kaolin-modified bitumen
