Determining Factors That Influence Nurses' Perceptions of Quality Implementations Conducted in Hospitals in Turkey
Background
Quality management program implementations in health services are team
endeavors that involve all health service personnel. Because they are
direct providers of care, nurses are best able to evaluate the influence
of quality management program implementations on the health services and
quality of care provided by hospitals. Purpose
The aim of this study was to develop an instrument to determine how
nurses perceive the implementation of quality management programs in
hospitals. Furthermore, the nurses' perceptions of the influence of
these implementations on the quality of patient care and their job
satisfaction were examined. Methods
A descriptive, comparative, cross-sectional online survey was conducted
using a convenience sample (N = 388) of practicing nurses working at
public and university hospitals where quality management programs were
implemented. Nurses' perceptions of the implementations were analyzed
using confirmatory factor analysis, whereas the influence of nurses'
perceptions of quality management implementations on patient care and
job satisfaction was measured using structural equation modeling
approaches. Results
This study revealed that the instrument is valid and reliable for the
measurement of participant perceptions of quality management program
implementations. Nurses' perceptions were generally negative, and they
exhibited negative attitudes toward the implementation of quality
management in the institutions where they work. However, the quality
management program implementations had little influence on perceptions
of the quality of patient care. Participant job satisfaction was lower
than average, and the quality management program implementations
conducted in the hospitals negatively affected job satisfaction. On the
other hand, participants who worked at university hospitals perceived
quality management program implementations more affirmatively; patient
care quality and job satisfaction were viewed more positively as well.
Conclusions/Implications for Practice
Because nurses do not participate effectively in quality management
program implementations, they perceive these efforts as unnecessary and
the responsibility of the quality control department. It is very
important to ensure that all care-service providers participate to
effectively implement quality management programs in hospitals and to
encourage the adoption of a culture of patient safety in all
institutions

Performance evaluation of GSA, SOS, ABC and ANN algorithms on linear and quadratic modelling of eggplant drying kinetic
In this study, kinetics of eggplant drying was modeled in the
laboratory-scaled Food Drying Oven (FDO) with resistance heater was
designed and manufactured. The temperature, energy consumption and
drying time of FDO were recorded by keeping the temperature of at
different temperatures as 40, 50 and 60 degrees C. These saved values
were chosen as the input parameters of the modeL The weight value of the
eggplant was taken as the output parameter. Linear and quadratic
equations were developed for modeling and constant coefficients of these
equations were estimated with Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), Gravitational
Search Algorithm (GSA), symbiotic organisms search (SOS) algorithms. In
addition, the performances of these models were compared with the model
developed with ANN in terms of performance and time. The results show
that the lowest error of the developed linear and quadratic equations
was obtained with SOS algorithm. The MSE metric results of ANN were
fifty times higher than the performance of SOS algorithm, and the SOS
algorithm reached best value three times faster than the ANN
Ortho versus Meta Chlorophenyl-2,3-Benzodiazepine Analogues: Synthesis, Molecular Modeling, and Biological Activity as AMPAR Antagonists
2,3-Benzodiazepine compounds are an important family of
alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor
(AMPAR) antagonists that act in a noncompetitive manner. Due to the
critical role of AMPARs in the synapse and various neurological
diseases, significant scientific interest in elucidating the molecular
basis of the function of the receptors has spiked. The analogues were
synthesized to assess the functional consequence of removing the amine
group of the phenyl ring, the potency and efficacy of inhibition by
substituting a halogen group at the meta vs ortho position of the phenyl
ring, and layout the prediction of potential drug candidates for AMPAR
hyperactivation. Using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique, we assessed
the effect of the derivative on the amplitude of various AMPA-type
glutamate receptors and calculated the desensitization and deactivation
rates before and after treatment of HEK293 cells. We noticed that the
amino group is not necessary for inhibition as long as an
electron-withdrawing group is placed on the meta position of the phenyl
ring of BDZ. Furthermore, compound 4a significantly inhibited and
affected the desensitization rate of the tested AMPARs but showed no
effect on the deactivation rate. The current study paves the way to a
better understanding of AMPARs and provides possible drug candidates of
2,3-BDZ different from the conventional derivatives

Investigation of cold extrusion process by coupled thermo-mechanical finite element analysis
As shown by Muller et al. {[}1] and Klocke {[}2], cold forward extrusion
process which is widely used in the manufacturing of various parts in
the industry is distinguished by its low material usage and improvesd
mechanical strength due to strain hardening as well as manufacturing
capabilities with narrow tolerances. Although extrusion process starts
at room temperature, as stated by Groche et al. {[}3], the temperature
on the workpiece can reach up to 200 degrees C and as reported by Groche
et al. {[}4], the contact normal stress between die and workpiece can
reach up to 3.000 MPa. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the
temperature effects while conducting finite element analysis. It is
known that, besides mechanical and physical properties of workpiece
material, heat transfer between sample and die is also of high
importance. However, there is no consensus about the magnitude of this
heat transfer coefficient. This study examines the effect of the heat
transfer coefficient between die and workpiece on the thermal and
mechanical properties of the extrusion process using coupled
thermo-mechanical finite element analysis. Finite element simulations
are conducted using various heat transfer coefficients and forming
speeds and differences in the results are discussed. Simulation results
are verified through experiments
