Influence of silane coating and graphene oxide integration on the magnetothermal Behaviors of La1-xSrxMnO3 nanoparticles

    No full text
In this study, La1-xSrxMnO3 (x = 0.27, 0.3, 0.33) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized and then these nanoparticles synthesized in the core–shell structure were coated with silane for potential magnetic hyperthermia applications. In order to provide support material for the coated magnetic nanoparticles, silane-coated hybrid magnetic nanoparticles were obtained by producing graphene oxide (GO) nanoflakes. The structural and magnetic properties and magnetothermal properties of these structures were investigated. It was observed that the structure of the silane-coated magnetic nanoparticles remained intact and did not show any degradation compared to the uncoated materials. In addition, the highest saturation magnetization (MS) value was observed in the sample doped with x = 0.30. This value indicated that the heating power would be higher than the other doped samples in the specific absorption ratio (SAR) measurements. In this context, the heating amount in the silane-coated samples showed a slight decrease compared to the uncoated samples. Despite the decrease in the SAR values of the integrated samples by incorporating GO into the coated MNPs, it is anticipated that effective results will be obtained for practical applications with the advantage of increasing the thermal conductivity of GO

This study was conducted to improve the oral hygiene habits of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and to compare the effects of peer video modeling and three-dimensional (3D) jaw model simulation methods. The research was carried out at Istanbul Hamit Ibrahimiye Special Education Practice School with a randomized controlled experimental design, involving 120 children aged 6–12 years. The participants were divided into three groups: peer video modeling, 3D jaw model simulation, and control. Data collection tools included a sociodemographic information form, oral and dental health knowledge form, plaque index, gingival index and tooth brushing evaluation forms. The study was evaluated based on assessments conducted at baseline, 1st month, 3rd month, and 6th month. The findings of the study revealed that the peer video modeling method significantly reduced the plaque index (p < 0.05) and led to a notable improvement in tooth brushing skills. The improvement observed in the 3D jaw model simulation group was more limited. In terms of long-term effects, peer video modeling was found to have a lasting impact on children’s oral hygiene habits (p < 0.01). These results indicate that peer video modeling is particularly more effective in promoting tooth brushing habits among children with ASD. In conclusion, peer video modeling appears to be a more effective method for oral and dental health education in children with ASD. Future studies should examine its long-term effects in more detail across different age groups. In addition, developing guideline materials for parents and educators may be beneficial

A threat to cultural sustainability: Urbicide

    No full text
This article examines the intricate relationship between urban memory, the phenomenon of urban destruction (urbicide), and cultural sustainability. Cities, understood as living narratives shaped by collective memory, are profoundly affected by the erasure of urban spaces. This erasure affects community identity, urban identity, and cultural heritage. The implicit hypothesis of the article is that the selective destruction of urban layers (urbicide) disrupts urban memory, erodes cultural sustainability, and prioritizes singular historical narratives over the multilayered authenticity of cities, ultimately harming community identity and resilience. Due to this argument, the conceptual framework of the article is constructed by exploring key concepts: urban memory, cultural sustainability, and urbicide, drawing upon existing literature to establish a framework for analysis. The article then delves into the multifaceted causes of urban destruction. Specific cases of urban destruction in Turkey are analyzed to illustrate the complexities of these processes and their impact on cultural sustainability. The cases are from three cities: & Idot;stanbul and Bursa, which are included in UNESCO World Heritage List, and Ankara, the capital city. Finally, the article concludes by discussing the implications of these findings for urban planning and policy, emphasizing the critical need for holistic approaches that prioritize the preservation of urban memory and the fostering of cultural resilience

Multipurpose adsorption applications of boron-doped and amino-functionalized magnetic mesoporous silica nanocomposite

    No full text
In this study, boron-doped magnetic mesoporous silica nanocomposite was prepared through the hydrothermal synthesis procedure followed by post modification with –NH2 groups. The higher surface area, more ordered mesoporous structure, and higher surface charge density obtained by boron doping and amino functionalization contributed to the use of nanocomposite for multipurpose application functions. When used as an adsorbent for light green (LG) anionic dye, boron-doped nanocomposite exhibited higher adsorption capacity (105.80 mg/g) compared to undoped nanocomposite (72.23 mg/g), while when used as a drug carrier for Doxorubicin (DOX), a sufficient drug loading capacity (48.0 mg/g) was obtained, which is also higher than that of undoped nanocomposite (30.3 mg/g). In terms of LG adsorption, the effects such as initial concentration, adsorbent dosage, time, pH, and temperature on the adsorption properties were investigated in detail. Adsorption kinetics, isotherms, thermodynamics, and reusability are discussed. The existence of small quantity of boron doping enhanced the surface charge density from 0.0393 to 0.2854 C/m2, which resulted in higher adsorption capacity for LG adsorption dominated by electrostatic attraction, and led to formation of silanol holes together with the –OH and –NH2 functional groups, which resulted in higher drug loading capacity for DOX adsorption dominated by hydrogen bonding. This promising result provides that boron-doped and –NH2 grafted magnetic mesoporous silica material can function as multipurpose adsorbent for various environmental applications

The prevalence, serogroup distribution and risk factors of meningococcal carriage in children, adolescents and young adults in Turkey meningo-carr-TR study PART 3 COVID-19 pandemic situation

    No full text
Background: The prevalence of meningococcal carriage and serogroup distribution is crucial for assessing the epidemiology of invasive meningococcal disease, forecasting outbreaks and formulating potential immunization strategies. Following the meningococcal carriage studies conducted in Turkey in 2016 and 2018, we planned to re-evaluate meningococcal carriage in children, adolescents and young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic period. Methods: In the MENINGO-CARR-3 study, we collected nasopharyngeal samples from 1585 participants 0–24 years of age, across 9 different centers in Turkey. We used polymerase chain reaction and serogroup distribution to determine how common it is for people to carry Neisseria meningitidis. Results: The overall meningococcal carriage rate was 8.5% (n = 134). The serogroup distribution was as follows: serogroup A, 6%; serogroup B, 30.6%; serogroup W, 12.7%; serogroup Y, 3.7%; serogroup X, 1.5% and nongroupable as 45.5%. The highest carriage rate was found in 15–17-year-old adolescents (24.1%, 17.9%, and 20.2%, respectively). The carriage rate was higher among participants who had a previous COVID-19 infection (P = 0.05; odds ratio: 1.95; 95% confidence interval: 1.11–3.44). The nasopharyngeal carriage rate was also higher than in the 2016 and 2018 studies (8.45% vs. 6.3% and 7.5%, respectively), and the most prevalent groupable serogroup was B during this study period, followed by serogroup W in 2016 and serogroup X in 2018. Conclusions: The present study found that meningococcal carriage was higher during the post-COVID-19 pandemic period, especially in adolescents and young adults. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 virus itself and/or pandemic mitigation strategies may affect both meningococcal carriage and serogroup distribution. Serogroup distribution varies between years, and further immunization strategies, including adolescent immunization, may play a role in controlling invasive meningococcal disease.Pfizer 6905031

This thesis examines the relations between the reaya and the central administration in the Ottoman Empire between 1768 and 1780, based on complaints submitted from the Anatolian Province to the Imperial Council (Divan-ı Hümayun). One of the main focuses of the study is the process of power consolidation by the ayan in the provinces following the Ottoman- Russian War of 1768-1774, its effects on the reaya, and its reflections on the complaint mechanism. The impact of transformations in provincial administration during this period on the relationship between the reaya and the central administration has been analyzed through complaint records, which provide the most direct insight into the voices of the people. In this context, the primary sources of this thesis are the Anatolian Ahkâm Registers and the Atik Complaint Registers. One of the most striking aspects of the period is the increase in petitions submitted from the provinces to the Imperial Council and the changes in petitioning methods. The study focuses on the reasons behind the rise in complaints and the significance of the complaint mechanism from the state's perspective. Additionally, the complaints are categorized to discuss the prominent problems across the Anatolian Province. Furthermore, the human dimension of the complaint mechanism is explored by analyzing the complainants, the accused, and the actors responsible for resolving disputes. This analysis aims to clarify which social groups encountered specific problems and whom the state engaged with in resolving these issues. Finally, the geographical distribution of complaints is examined by evaluating them according to sanjaks (districts), analyzing how distance, administrative structures, and geography influenced the spread of complaints. Additionally, the seasonal variations in the subjects of complaints are classified to identify the periodic patterns of the problems

    No full text
Background: In this study, electrochemical flexible paper-based biosensors were developed for rapid and sensitive detection of Escherichia coli, a pathogen and a significant concern in both public health and the food industry. The electrodes were fabricated by a simple pencil drawing method utilizing a commercial, cost-effective cutting tool. Using automated cutting tool to form the conductive graphite patterns enabled the fabrication of pencil-drawn paper-based electrodes with a high reproducibility. The polyclonal E. coli antibody-hybridized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were immobilized onto the working electrode surface to construct the biosensors. Results: The performance of the biosensors against E. coli was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) techniques. To the immobilization and performance conditions optimization results, the developed sensor demonstrated the best results at 7.2 pH, 10 mu g mL- 1 Ab-MWCNT conjugate loadings and 30-min incubation time. The pencil-drawn flexible paper-based biosensors showed a linear range of 10 degrees-107 CFU mL- 1 with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 2.6 x 101 CFU mL-1. The sensor exhibited high repeatability with a low Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) % of 2.8. The sensors demonstrated remarkable selectivity against various culture environments and good performance in detecting E. coli in apple juices as real samples. In addition, the developed biosensor successfully detected a wild-type E. coli strain which was isolated from a street food and genetically confirmed as E. coli in this study. Significance: Our results suggested that disposable paper-based pencil-drawn flexible electrodes can be used to develop low-cost biosensors with high sensitivity and selectivity against E. coli. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first report using the pencil-drawing method for electrode fabrication for detection of E. coli and its appli-cation in real samples
