    No full text
The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of thyme essential oil on growth performance, fecal microflora and immune system parameters in growing Merino lambs to investigate its use as safe and natural method. Thirty Merino lambs were used in 45 days in a randomized complete block design. The lambs in control group did not receive thyme essential oil, whereas each lamb in experimental groups supplemented with 250 mg thyme essential oil/d (T250) and 500 mg thyme essential oil/d (T500) throughout the study. The number of coliform bacteria was found to be the lowest in the T250 group compared to the other groups. Moreover, a significant difference was found between the control and experimental groups in the Lactobacillus (p < 0.019) and Bifidobacterium (p < 0.010) counts, and it was determined that the experimental groups contained higher numbers of beneficial bacteria than the control group. Immunoglobulin G plasma levels was highest in the 500 mg/day thyme oil group compared to the other groups. In conclusion, adding thyme essential oil with a high carvacrol content to lamb rations under stress following weaning has demonstrated that it can have antibacterial, immune-supportive, and growth-promoting properties without causing a negative effect on performance parameters.Tekirdag Namik Kemal University Scientific Research UnitDAK Tarim Urunleri Ticaret ve Limited Sirketi NKUBAP.10 -- 23.47

Amaç: MikroRNA’ların hücresel süreçlerin düzenlenmesine katıldığı, deregülasyonu halinde kanser dahil olmak üzere çeşitli hastalıklarla ilişkili olduğu bilinmektedir. Çalışmamızda pankreas kanserinde lokal nüks, uzak organ metastazı ve sağkalım dahil klinikopatolojik parametreler ile ilişkili olabilecek miRNA’ların tanımlanması amaçlanmaktadır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada, 2012-2022 yılları arasında Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Tıbbi Onkoloji Anabilim Dalı’na başvuran, adjuvan kemoterapi almış, pankreas kanseri 50 hastaya ait tümör doku örnekleri ve ilgili hastaların 21’inin bitişik normal doku örneklerinde 10 mikroRNA'nın (miRNA) RT-qPCR yöntemiyle ekspresyon analizleri gerçekleştirildi. Ekspresyon düzeylerinin değerlendirilmesinde katlık artış değerleri kullanıldı. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde Ki-Kare, Student T-Testi, One-Way Anova Testi, Mann Whitney U Testi, binary lojistik regresyon analizi, kaplan meier testi ve Cox regresyon analizi kullanıldı. Bulgular: Pankreas kanseri dokusunda miRNA’lardan let-7c, miR-27a, miR29b, miR-31, miR-34a, miR-143, miR-200c’nın aşağı regüle olduğu, miR10b’nin ise yukarı regüle olduğu saptandı (p<0,05). Perinöral invazyon pozitifliğinin [OR:0,12; %95GA (0,019-0,763)] ve miR-143 yüksek ekspresyonlu grupta olmanın [OR:4,1; %95GA (1,094-15,674)] lokal nüksü etkilediği saptandı (p<0,05). Purpose: It is known that microRNAs participate in the regulation of cellular processes and that their deregulation is associated with various diseases, including cancer. Our study aims to identify miRNAs that may be associated with clinicopathological parameters, including local recurrence, distant organ metastasis, and survival in pancreatic cancer. Materials and Methods: In this study, expression analyses of 10 miRNAs were performed using the RT-qPCR method on tumor tissue samples from 50 pancreatic cancer patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy and were admitted to the Department of Medical Oncology at Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine between 2012 and 2022, as well as on adjacent normal tissue samples from 21 of these patients. Fold change values were used to evaluate expression levels. For data analysis, Chi-Square Test, Student’s ttest, One-Way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U Test, binary logistic regression analysis, Kaplan-Meier test, and Cox regression analysis were utilized. Results: In pancreatic cancer tissue, microRNAs let-7c, miR-27a, miR-29b, miR-31, miR-34a, miR-143, miR-200c were down-regulated, while miR-10b was up-regulated (p<0.05). Perineural invasion positivity [OR: 0.12; 95% CI (0.019-0.763)] and being in the miR-143 high expression group [OR: 4.1; 95% CI (1.094-15.674)] were found to affect local recurrence (p<0.05). Tumor type was adenosquamous [HR: 4.107; [95%CI (1.612-10.763)] and being in the group with high expression levels of miR-29b [HR: 1.992; 95%CI (1.083- 3.663)] were found to be associated with lower disease-free survival. And It was found that the tumor type being adenosquamous [HR: 5.102 times (1.820- 14.302)] was associated with lower overall survival. vi Conclusion: In light of these findings, it is thought that miR-143 may be a guide in evaluating the local recurrence process that may develop in pancreatic cancer patients. In addition, increased expression levels of miR29b negatively affect disease-free survival. In conclusion, it is thought that the expression differences of miRNAs may be effective in pancreatic cancer prognosis, and more studies with longer follow-up are needed on this subject

The history of Arabic in West Africa dates back to the 7th century. Although Arabic was used to some extent as a spoken language among the people in the region, scholars and some sultans, particularly during early periods such as the Songhai era, became proficient in Arabic due to the linguistic knowledge they acquired from Arabic sources. This situation laid the groundwork for the emergence of notable works in both poetry and prose. Since prose was primarily used by scholars in the region, early examples of prose include friendship treatises (Ikhwaniyyāt), sermons, administrative documents, official correspondence between kings, and works on religion and linguistics. However, these prose examples did not possess literary qualities; instead, they dealt with instructive, scientific, historical, social, and political topics. The birth of the indigenous Arabic novel in West Africa began in the late 20th century, specifically in 1996, with the short story Family is The Foundation of Education, written by Nigerian author Ismail Ebubekir as part of his undergraduate degree at Sokoto University. This study aims to examine Arabic-language novels written in West Africa and will consist of an introduction and three main cahpters. In the introduction, a general overview of African Arabic literature will be provided. The first chapter will focus on the history of Arabic in West Africa and the development of prose. The second chapter will discuss the emergence of Arabic novels in West Africa, which developed from the mentioned prose genres, as well as the factors that influenced this development, sources of inspiration, and stylistic features reflecting the unique West African identity of the region. The third and final chapter will provide a detailed analysis of three example novels, guided by contemporary novel analysis methods

A novel cascaded rpidd2-pi controller tuned by enhanced cooperation search algorithm for automatic voltage regulator systems

    No full text
Voltage regulation is essential for maintaining the stability and efficiency of power systems, and automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) play a key role in ensuring consistent voltage levels and reducing disturbances. In this study, a novel cascaded controller, referred to as RPIDD2-PI, is proposed for AVR systems, representing its first known application in literature. The controller is designed to enhance voltage regulation by improving precision, stability, and dynamic responsiveness. To optimize the controller parameters, an improved metaheuristic algorithm called the enhanced cooperation search algorithm (ECSA) has been developed. This algorithm incorporates several features, including control randomization, a linear transfer function, an adaptive p-best mutation strategy, and a greedy selection mechanism. These enhancements provide a balanced trade-off between exploration and exploitation during the optimization process. Simulation results show that the ECSA-tuned controller achieves excellent dynamic performance, with a rise time of 0.0314 s, a settling time of 0.0472 s, and zero overshoot, outperforming existing methods. The standard deviation of 7.9591E-05 across multiple runs highlights the consistency and robustness of the solution. Robustness tests confirm the controller's reliability under parameter uncertainties in the amplifier, exciter, and generator components, showing only minor variations in dynamic performance. Furthermore, the proposed controller demonstrates strong transient stability by minimizing oscillations and enabling a fast return to steady-state conditions. Comparative studies against more than 40 recent optimization-based controllers published between 2020 and 2023 confirm that the ECSA offers faster convergence and higher efficiency

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the impact of cognitive flexibility and classroom engagement levels on high school students' creative problem-solving skills. The participants are 341 tenth grade students from three different high schools, along with nine mathematics teachers who have been teaching these students for at least two years. Data analysis was conducted through sequential logistic regression and path analysis. Findings revealed that female students' achievement of a full score in solving a problem that requires creativity is lower compared to that of male students. Neither maternal nor paternal education level was a significant predictor of reaching a creative solution. Path analysis revealed that an increase in overall classroom engagement scores led to an increase in both creative problem-solving and success levels. However, when classroom engagement was the mediator variable, its direct positive significant predictive impact on creative problem- solving disappeared. In conclusion, academic achievement did not significantly predict creative problem-solving, and the significant effect of classroom engagement as a predictor disappeared when it is the mediator variable

Kutsalın haritasını çıkarmak: İstanbul’daki Kariye Cami / Chora Kilisesi’nin martekslerindeki meander mozaikleri

Meanders and swastikas, often interpreted as medieval metaphors for the journey of earthly life, form an intricate narrative within the Chora Church (Kariye Cami) mosaics. These visual labyrinths, with their interwoven geometries, serve as symbolic pathways, suggesting both the trials of earthly life and the divine guidance leading toward salvation. This study focuses on the significant role of the swastika motif within the Chora Church’s mosaic program, exploring its layered symbolism. A detailed analysis of its strategic placement within the labyrinthine compositions, particularly in the mosaics above the Deesis and in the exonarthex vault, reveals its role as a spiritual guide. Furthermore, this article examines the gamma-shaped meander patterns, particularly those above the Infancy Cycle, highlighting their stylistic features and contribution to the overall narrative. By considering the mosaic technique, including the use of opus vermiculatum, gold tesserae, and vibrant colour palettes, the study demonstrates how Theodore Metochites’ appreciation for artistic craftsmanship enhances the spiritual impact of these intricate designs, offering a unique perspective on Late Byzantine visual art.

    No full text
This paper presents a parametric design approach for the two-member Transmotor-Flywheel electric vehicle powertrain. The vehicle's dynamic model is analyzed to derive the powertrain requirements under various driving cycles, acceleration, and gradability. A parametric design is conducted for the electric motor and flywheel components based on these derived requirements. Subsequently, a comprehensive performance comparison is performed, contrasting a conventional electric motor powertrain architecture with the Transmotor-Flywheel architecture under the same driving cycles. The evaluation focuses on key metrics such as the state of charge, driving range, and overall performance. The results demonstrate the Transmotor-Flywheel architecture's superior range extension capabilities, providing a strong foundation for future research and development in electric vehicles
