Nutritional Status, Fluid Intake, and Exercise Habits on the Incidence of Dehydration in Adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency
Dehydration is a condition that can reduce stamina, concentration, memory, and increase the risk of serious physical disorders. Adolescents are at higher risk of dehydration due to intense physical activity and fluid consumption patterns that are often insufficient. Fluid requirements in adolescents depend on various factors, including age, gender, level of physical activity, environmental conditions, and nutritional status. so special attention to hydration is needed. This study aims to analyze the relationship between nutritional status, fluid intake, and exercise habits with the incidence of dehydration in adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency. This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Data analysis used the chi-square statistical test with a 95% confidence level (? = 0.05). The sample consisted of 110 students. Data was collected through interviews, anthropometric measurements, and assessment of hydration levels using urine color check cards. The results of the study showed that 3.6% of adolescents were malnourished, 40.9 were overweight, 40.9% had an insufficient fluid intake, 80.9% exercised, and 79.1% were dehydrated. The results of statistical tests showed that there was no significant relationship between nutritional status (p=0.266), fluid intake (p=0.845), and exercise habits (p=0.816) with the hydration status of adolescents. Adolescents are advised to get used to routinely consuming water every day, especially before and after physical activity as an effort to prevent dehydration. In addition, it is necessary to avoid consuming sweet or caffeinated drinks that can increase the risk of dehydration. Schools can play an active role by providing easy access to drinking water, as well as providing education about the importance of good hydration for body health and supporting daily activities
Factors Related to Breast Self-Examination Behavior (SADARI) of University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta Students
One of the leading causes of cancer deaths in women worldwide is breast cancer. It is imperative to improve understanding of the various aspects of early detection and prevention so as to identify problems early enough to reduce breast cancer deaths. Early detection by the method of breast self-examination (SADARI) is a preventive and effective step in reducing the incidence of death due to breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors associated with breast self-examination behavior (SADARI) in female students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. This study used an observational method with a cross-sectional design. The research sample amounted to 263 respondents selected using insidental sampling technique. The results there was a relationship between knowledge (0.000) and attitude (0.010) with breast self-examination behavior (SADARI). However, there was no relationship between family support (0.587) and information exposure (0.623) with breast self-examination behavior. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of increasing education and socialization about SADARI for female students in order to increase awareness and implementation of SADARI behavior as an early prevention measure for breast cancer
The Role of the Medical Committee in Efforts to Improve the Quality of Services at Batu Bara Regional General Hospital
The medical committee plays an important role in the hospital quality management system, especially in ensuring the professionalism of medical personnel, implementing clinical audits, and formulating service policies. However, the implementation of the role of the medical committee in regional hospitals often faces various structural and operational challenges. This study aims to analyze in depth how the medical committee plays a role in improving the quality of service at Batu Bara Regional Hospital and to identify the obstacles and strategies implemented. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the chairman and members of the medical committee, the hospital director, and medical personnel, documentation studies of policies and committee meeting reports, and direct observation of medical committee activities. The analysis was carried out using a thematic approach and source triangulation techniques to ensure the validity of the data. The results of the study indicate that the medical committee has carried out the functions of credentialing, medical audits, and formulating clinical policies with active involvement. However, the development of medical personnel and monitoring of clinical practices are still not optimal due to limited human resources, minimal ongoing training, and lack of information system integration. The medical committee is also a communication bridge between management and medical staff in clinical decision making. Analysis of the Effect of Quality Management System Implementation on Service Quality
Background: Improving the quality of services in the health sector, especially in hospitals, has become one of the main concerns in various countries, including Indonesia. Quality health services are essential in creating patient satisfaction and improving the effectiveness of the health care system as a whole. Objective: This study aims to determine the extent of the relationship and influence between the variables of quality management system implementation on service quality at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan City. Methods: This research is a quantitative study with an associative approach, associative research is used to test the cause-and-effect relationship between two or more variables through statistical analysis. The sample amounted to 86 respondents. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and the outcome report was analyzed with the chi-square test at a significance level of p<0.05. Research Results: the implementation of the quality management system has a positive and significant effect on service quality at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan City. The hospital needs to continue to improve the implementation of the quality management system consistently, especially in the aspects of HR training and the implementation of continuous quality audits, in order to improve the quality of services received by patients. Conclusion: hospitals need to pay attention to improving physical facilities, such as the cleanliness of treatment rooms and the provision of more modern medical equipment. Early Detection Counseling for Cervical Cancer in Perbarakan Village, Pagar Merbau District
Counseling on early detection of cervical cancer is an important effort to increase public awareness and knowledge, especially Women of Childbearing Age (WUS), regarding the dangers and prevention of cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a serious health problem that is the second leading cause of death among women with cancer. Cervical cancer is dangerous because it can cause death if not detected early. This disease damages reproductive organs, reduces quality of life, and causes pain and abnormal bleeding. In addition, treatment is expensive and carries the risk of infertility as well as psychological and social impacts for sufferers. This counseling activity was held in Perbarakan Village, Dusun 1 on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 16.00 WIB and was attended by 35 participants. The material presented in the activity included the definition of cervical cancer, risk factors, signs and symptoms, the importance of early detection, prevention methods, maintaining reproductive organ hygiene, healthy sexual relations, and the importance of HPV vaccination. Before the counseling, the level of knowledge of participants regarding cervical cancer and early detection efforts was relatively low (below 50%). However, after the activity took place, there was a significant increase in knowledge (more than 80%). The success of the activity was seen from the high enthusiasm of the participants during the discussion and question and answer sessions, which created an interactive and effective learning atmosphere. With cooperation between the community, families, and health workers, it is hoped that similar activities can continue to be carried out to reduce the incidence and mortality due to cervical cancer and create a healthy and quality generation of women
Education on the Benefits of Ethanol Extract Gel Preparation from Kelakai Leaves as a Burn Wound Treatment in Pantai Labu District
Skin care is essential to protect the skin from damage, which can be achieved through healthy dietary intake and the direct application of topical products. The wound healing process plays a vital role in restoring tissue integrity and normal function. This process occurs in several phases, namely inflammation, proliferation, and maturation. The leaves of the kelakai plant have been utilized as the active ingredient in topical gel formulations due to their perceived safety and effectiveness. A gel formulation with a 15% w/w concentration has been proven to be the most effective, capable of reducing burn wound area by up to 13.75%, particularly in severe burn cases. These findings indicate the strong potential of kelakai leaf extract gel as an alternative treatment for burn injuries. A community service activity (PkM) involving 97 residents of Pantai Labu District was conducted with the aim of increasing public awareness regarding the proper and safe selection of topical medications. Participants were educated on the benefits, safety, and stability of the kelakai leaf extract gel, including the importance of appropriate pH levels that are compatible with human skin. Post-activity assessments revealed an increase in participants’ knowledge by 50% and 30% based on pre-test and post-test results, respectively, indicating the success of the program in enhancing understanding of plant-based topical gels as an alternative burn treatment. The PkM team also encouraged participants to be more selective and cautious when using similar products. This educational initiative successfully improved public knowledge regarding the use of medicinal plants as herbal remedies for burn wounds
Intervention of Balanced Nutrition Education for Adolescents to Prevent Obesity and Degenerative Diseases at SMP Swasta 102114244 Nusantara Lubuk Pakam
Background: Changes in lifestyle and consumption patterns of Indonesian adolescents in recent years have shown an increasing trend towards a diet high in calories, fat, sugar, and salt and low in fiber. This condition has led to an increase in the rate of adolescent obesity, which is a major risk factor for degenerative diseases in adulthood. Based on the 2023 Riskesdas, the prevalence of adolescent obesity in Indonesia reached 18.7%, up from 13.5% in 2018. One of the effective promotive-preventive efforts is through balanced nutrition education in the school environment. Objective: This activity aims to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of adolescents about the principles of balanced nutrition and encourage the implementation of healthy eating patterns to prevent obesity and degenerative diseases. Methods: The activity was carried out through the stages of preparing educational materials, implementing interactive education, demonstrating the contents of my plate, and evaluating using pre-test and post-test. Results: The balanced nutrition education activity held at SMP Swasta 102114244 Nusantara Lubuk Pakam successfully attracted the attention and interest of all students. The participants' enthusiasm was evident from the start of the activity, from the presentation of the material, the question and answer session, to the simulation of preparing a balanced nutrition menu based on the “Isi Piringku” guidelines. This is shown by the results of an increase in knowledge of 41.12% with a p value of <0.001. Conclusion: Balanced nutrition education is proven to be effective in increasing knowledge and forming healthy eating habits in adolescents. This program should be implemented sustainably in schools to prevent obesity and degenerative disease
Implementation of meal service time management to reduce food waste among inpatients at batu bara regional general hospital
This community engagement activity aimed to implement meal serving time management as an effort to reduce food waste among inpatients at Batu Bara Regional General Hospital. The activity was conducted using a pre–post implementation approach involving nutrition staff, ward nurses, and inpatients receiving oral diets. The intervention consisted of developing and applying a simple standard operating procedure for meal serving time, accompanied by education and on-site mentoring for foodservice staff. Data were collected through direct observation of meal serving timeliness and visual estimation of plate waste using the Comstock method. The results show that meal serving timeliness improves after implementation, accompanied by a reduction in inpatient food waste. Improved coordination between nutrition staff and nurses contributes to meals being served closer to scheduled times, preserving food temperature and acceptability. In conclusion, implementing meal serving time management effectively reduces food waste and improves the quality of hospital foodservice. This approach is practical, low-cost, and has potential for sustainable application in regional hospitals
Education on the Preparation of Antibacterial Liquid Soap from Mango Leaf Extract (Mangifera indica L.) as an Effort to Improve Clean and Healthy Living Behavior
Background: The skin is the body’s first physical line of defense, functioning to protect against dehydration and to prevent the entry of harmful foreign agents, such as bacteria. Mango leaves (Mangifera indica L.) possess antibacterial properties due to the presence of tannins, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and mangiferin. Mangiferin belongs to the xanthone and phenolic compound groups and has potential antimicrobial activity. Objective: This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and skills in producing antibacterial liquid soap made from mango leaf (Mangifera indica L.) extract, as well as to encourage the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors. Methods: The delivery of community service materials was carried out using a lecture method supported by infocus media. The preparation of liquid soap containing mango leaf extract was conducted through demonstration and hands-on practice by the participants. Results: The community service activity resulted in a liquid soap product with a pH ranging from 8 to 11, a characteristic mango leaf aroma, and a foam height of approximately 1–5 cm, which meets the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for soap (1996), namely 0–5 cm. Posttest evaluation showed that 86.7% (26 participants) had a good level of knowledge, while 13.3% (4 participants) had a moderate level of knowledge. Conclusion: This community service activity indicates that the participants understood the material provided and were able to effectively demonstrate the production of antibacterial liquid soap made from mango leaf extract
Balanced Nutrition Education for School Children as an Effort to Prevent Nutritional Problems
Nutritional problems among adolescents remain a public health concern that requires serious attention, particularly those related to unbalanced dietary patterns and suboptimal healthy lifestyle behaviors. Adolescents are a vulnerable age group prone to both undernutrition and overnutrition, which may negatively affect health status and future productivity. Balanced nutrition education is a preventive strategy that can improve adolescents’ knowledge and awareness in preventing nutritional problems. This community service activity aimed to increase students’ knowledge of balanced nutrition as an effort to prevent nutritional problems at SMK Pembangunan Lubuk Pakam. The activity was conducted through nutrition education using interactive lectures, discussions, and simulations of the “My Plate” concept, involving 26 twelfth-grade students. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test methods to assess changes in students’ knowledge levels before and after the educational intervention. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge, indicated by an increase in the proportion of students with good knowledge from 23.1% to 69.2%, while the proportion of students with poor knowledge decreased from 38.5% to 3.9%. In addition, students demonstrated positive responses and high enthusiasm throughout the activity. Balanced nutrition education was proven to be effective in improving students’ understanding of balanced nutrition principles and the importance of healthy eating habits. This activity is expected to contribute to the prevention of nutritional problems among adolescents by enhancing knowledge, awareness, and motivation to adopt healthy lifestyle practices in daily life
