    State-of-the-art flocking strategies for the collective motion of multi-robots

    The technological revolution has transformed the area of labor with reference to automation and robotization in various domains. The employment of robots automates these disciplines, rendering beneficial impacts as robots are cost-effective, reliable, accurate, productive, flexible, and safe. Usually, single robots are deployed to accomplish specific tasks. The purpose of this study is to focus on the next step in robot research, collaborative multi-robot systems, through flocking control in particular, improving their self-adaptive and self-learning abilities. This review is conducted to gain extensive knowledge related to swarming, or cluster flocking. The evolution of flocking laws from inception is delineated, swarming/cluster flocking is conceptualized, and the flocking phenomenon in multi-robots is evaluated. The taxonomy of flocking control based on different schemes, structures, and strategies is presented. Flocking control based on traditional and trending approaches, as well as hybrid control paradigms, is observed to elevate the robustness and performance of multi-robot systems for collective motion. Opportunities for deploying robots with flocking control in various domains are also discussed. Some challenges are also explored, requiring future considerations. Finally, the flocking problem is defined and an abstraction of flocking control-based multiple UAVs is presented by leveraging the potentials of various methods. The significance of this review is to inspire academics and practitioners to adopt multi-robot systems with flocking control for swiftly performing tasks and saving energy

    Anthropometric and physical characteristics of youth soccer in Timor-Leste: A multi-dimensional analysis of male players in a developing country

    The objective of this study was to analyze the growth, maturation, and physical characteristics of youth soccer players in Timor-Leste. Anthropometric and physical data were collected from 217 Under-15, Under-13, Under-11, and Under-9 male soccer players from five clubs. The anthropometric parameters included height, sitting height, and body mass. These allowed calculations of maturity offset, peak-height velocity (PHV), and body mass index (BMI). The Yo-Yo Intermittent Endurance Test (Level 1), Shuttle Sprint and Dribble Tests, Horizontal Jump Test, and Slalom Sprint and Dribble Tests were recorded to make physical assessments. Results showed youth soccer in Timor-Leste presented with lower values of anthropometric and physical parameters compared to more developed countries. Under-9 soccer players were predicted an age at PHV earlier than the other age-categories (p < 0.001). There were no significant differences in BMI between age-categories. Regarding physical assessments, Under-11 performed better on the Slalom Sprint and Dribble Tests compared to Under-13 (p < 0.001). This investigation offers the first insights into the maturational, anthropometric, and athletic qualities of youth soccer players from Timor-Leste. It hopes to provide impetus for researchers to work with other developing countries in this field to breed more generalizable findings, and so, support the implementation of developmental programs

    Losing a Landscape: Havant Thicket Reservoir

    Ancient woodland and natural habitats in the United Kingdom are declining despite their vital role in tackling the ecological climate crisis. This project explores how individual creative practice can respond to this collective issue and focuses on the development of the Havant Thicket Reservoir by Portsmouth Water and Southern Water. Although the reservoir aims to relieve issues of water scarcity, the construction has destroyed over 14 hectares of irreplaceable ancient woodland and reduced the community's access to wild spaces.Researching the impact before the start of the construction, artist and early career academic at Solent University, Frankie Knight (aka Frankie Murdoch), interviewed and photographed 11 members of the ‘Stop the Chop’ (now known as Havant Thicket for Nature) campaign group and recorded the landscape by using medium format film and developed the images using seaweed collected locally.The project demonstrates the benefits of working in a natural environment and working with natural materials and aims to be used as an example for future projects that can help build resilience within communities against the effects of climate change.The project can be presented as an installation of 16 A2 photographs printed on hemp paper, named after the location where they were taken using What3Words, and presented with a 7-minute audio piece that includes sounds from the landscape, clips from the interviews and music composed by Frankie Knight.     Machine learning approaches for obesity classification and prediction: an analysis of demographic, lifestyle, and health factors

    The high level of obesity poses a serious public health problem across the globe, being a leading cause of various chronic diseases and substantial threats to the quality of people's lives. Given the ever-growing rates of obesity and its impact on individual well-being, the current study aims to explore numerous factors that drive obesity, using machine learning algorithms to solve classification tasks. By working on a rich dataset that contains a range of demographic, lifestyle, and health parameters, several classifiers were developed and tested, namely Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, Support Vector Machine, and K-Nearest Neighbors. The resulting outcomes indicated that both Random Forest and Gradient Boosting algorithms were highly accurate in the classification of obesity, with 95.0% and 95.3% accuracy rates, respectively. The obtained results confirm the critical role of various machine learning approaches in understanding obesity and developing predictions for more focused intervention. This study offers considerable input into obesity epidemiology literature and demonstrates the utility of advanced analytical appraisal in public health

    The body, male gaze and sexual harassment in higher education

    This chapter shows the multifaceted ways in which gendered bodies negotiate patriarchal boundaries and spaces. Drawing on qualitative data from student experiences of Higher Education (HE), this chapter uses Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology and Foucauldian social theory to map out the ways in which the body is disclosed through the male gaze in university settings. The male gaze perpetuates intimidation, fear, and harm, but in response the body fine-tunes itself to prohibit intimidation, avail fear, and provide forms of protection. The chapter draws on three spaces in which the gaze and the body is analysed by three qualitative researchers: in university classrooms; in on-campus non-teaching spaces, and on student work placements
