Impact of Acupressure on Pain, Functional Status, and Quality of Life in Individuals With Knee Osteoarthritis
Objective: The purpose of this study was to ascertain the impact of acupressure on pain perception, functional status, and overall quality of life in individuals afflicted with knee OA. Methods: The research was executed as an experimental study employing both pre- and post-test assessments, featuring a control group. Ninety participants were divided into 2 groups: acupressure and control. The acupressure intervention was administered twice weekly, once daily, for a duration of 4 weeks, totaling eight sessions. It adhered to the guidelines for acupuncture application as outlined by the researcher, targeting 6 specific acupuncture points. Data were collected both before and after the acupressure sessions, utilizing assessment tools such as the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Results: The study was conducted with a total of 90 participants, comprising 45 individuals in the acupressure group (comprising 88.9% females, with a mean age of 62.88 ± 9.55 years) and 45 individuals in the control group (also comprising 88.9% females, with a mean age of 58.93 ± 10.19 years). Before the acupressure intervention, the acupressure group exhibited higher scores in pain, stiffness, and physical function compared to the control group. Nevertheless, after the interventions, a noteworthy enhancement was detected in the VAS scores, WOMAC scores, and SF-36 scores within the acupressure group (P < .001). Conclusion: In conclusion, acupressure was found to reduce pain severity and enhance the functional status and quality of life in patients diagnosed with knee OA. The role of environmental concern in purchasing decision on organic food and the link to greenwashing
Customers have changed their buying habits due to growing consumer awareness of good nutrition and environmental degradation. They now seek more natural, high-quality, and dependable items from companies. Businesses include organic products in their product offers, and organic product consumption is becoming a growing market considering the changing consumer expectations. For this reason, firms in the industry must understand what influences consumers' attitudes and purchase intentions concerning organic food. On the other hand, Companies may make greenwashing to increase their sales by seeming more sustainable or environmentally friendly than they are, without making any meaningful changes to their practices. In this paper, we analyze the factors affecting the purchasing decisions of consumers on organic food and relate the results with the greenwashing behaviour of firms. An online survey obtained the research data via Google Forms to 425 consumers selected by convenience sampling. Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Model were used to analyze the data. Our results show that health consciousness, food safety, price sensitivity, and quality are significant drivers of organic food purchasing decisions, while environmental concern is statically insignificant driver of consumer attitudes
An Innovative Approach for the Fabrication of Functional Antibacterial Membranes for Face Mask
Number of studies on the hydrophobic and antibacterial membranes has shown significant growth recently, particularly in masks created in response to the coronavirus pandemic. In this study, the supercritical CO2 (scCO(2) ) annealing, a promising green alternative post-processing method to traditional solvents for polymers, polymer blends, and composites, has been focused. And polymeric membranes were also improved with silver (inorganic) or limestone (organic) particles as antibacterial additives to the polypropylene/polyethylene glycol (PP/PEG) blend. The effect on the structure and properties of the synthesized membranes were examined including the antibacterial and topographical properties before and after CO2 annealing. With increasing contact angle by scCO(2) annealing, it was possible to create superhydrophobic surfaces and antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli (E. coli), especially for silver-loaded PP-PEG membranes based on the collected results. This study is thought to boost the effectiveness of masks against bacteria, the main causes of today's hygiene related epidemics. Finally, scCO(2) can be safely applied in mask and membrane production as well as biomedical applications
Association of the SNP in <i>akirin 2</i> Gene With Growth and Carcass Traits in Zavot Cattle
Understanding the genetic factors that influence meat yield is crucial due to the economic importance of average daily live weight gain (ADWG) in livestock. This study investigates the relationship between the c.*188G>A SNP in the 3 '-UTR region of the akirin 2 gene and growth traits in Zavot cattle, focusing on the gene's role in muscle development. Genotyping of the c.*188G>A SNP was conducted using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis, revealing frequencies of 0.09 for AA, 0.75 for AG and 0.16 for GG genotypes, respectively. Our findings demonstrate a significant association between this SNP and ADWG, as well as percentage. These results suggest that the c.*188G>A SNP within akirin 2 could serve as a valuable DNA marker for predicting ADWG and percentage traits in Zavot cattle
