    Determination of agronomic and quality characteristics ofsome oat (Avena sativa L.) varieties in kirşehir ecological conditions

    Bu araştırma bazı yulaf çeşitlerinin Kırşehir ekolojik koşullarına uyumunu değerlendirmek amacıyla, 2021 yılında Kırşehir Ahi Evran Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi deneme tarlalarında yürütülmüştür. Tesadüf blokları deneme tertibine göre üç tekerrürlü olarak kurulan bu araştırmada 21 yulaf çeşidi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada tane verimi, verim bileşenleri ve kalite parametreleri değerlendirilmiştir. İncelenen özellikler için yapılan varyans analizlerinde çeşitler arasındaki farklılık istatistiki olarak önemli bulunmuştur. Çeşitlerin tane verimi 155.6-354.2 kg/da, metrekarede fertil salkım sayısı 118.3-443.3 adet, salkımda başakçık sayısı 12.2-34.4 adet, salkımda tane sayısı 23.33-65.2 adet, salkımda tane ağırlığı 0.957-1.842 g, hasat indeksi %30.74- 43.92, bin tane ağırlığı 23.21-42.73 g, hektolitre ağırlığı 40.8-55.6 kg/hl, protein oranı %14.79-9.55 arasında değiştiği tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmada en yüksek tane verimi ile Seydişehir (354.2 kg/da) çeşidi ön plana çıkarken, bunu sırasıyla 339.1 ve 327.5 kg/da verimle Albatros ve Somun Yıldızı çeşitleri izlemiştir. Sonuç olarak, Kırşehir'in yağmura dayalı koşullarında ön plana çıkan yulaf çeşitleri, bölge tarımında münavebede yer alabilecek çeşitler olarak belirlenmiştir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Yulaf, verim, verim unsurları, kaliteThe research was carried out in the experimental fields of Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Faculty of Agriculture in the 2021 in order to evaluate the adaptation of some oat varieties to Kırşehir ecological conditions. 21 oat cultivars were used in this study, which was established as three replications according to randomized complete block design. In the study, grain yield, yield components and quality parameters were evaluated. In the analysis of variance for the examined traits, the difference between the cultivars was found to be statistically significant. The average values among the oat varieties ranged between 155.6-354.2 kg/da in grain yield, 118.3-443.3 in fertile panicle per square meter, 12.2-34.4 in spikelets per panicle, 23.33-65.2 in number of grains per panicle, 0.957-1.842 g in grain weight per panicle, 30.74-43.92% in harvest index, 23.21-42.73 g in thousand grain weight, 40.8-55.6 kg/hl in hectoliter weight, 9.55-14.79%. in protein ratio. Seydişehir (354.2 kg/da) variety came to the fore with the highest grain yield in the study, followed by Albatross and Somun Yildizi varieties with 339.1 and 327.5 kg/da yields, respectively. As a result, oat varieties that come to the fore in the rainfed conditions of Kırşehir were determined as the varieties that can take place in the region's agriculture.     Bu tez çalışmasında nitel araştırma teknikleriyle yazılmıştır. Gözlem ve doküman analizi gibi veri toplama yöntemleriyle oluşturulmuş bir çalışmadır. Meta-sentez yöntemi, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden biridir ve araştırmada kullanılmıştır. Ahlak ve ekonomi ilişkisi üzerine yapılan araştırmalarda nitel bulguları açıklamayı, değerlendirmeyi, benzerlik, farklılıkları ortaya koymayı ve yeni çıkarımlarda bulunmayı amaçlayan bir araştırmadır. Ahlakın iktisadi düzende var olan ve olması gereken bağı irdelenmiş alanda yapılan tüm çalışmalar sentezlenerek ahlakın, iktisadi düzen içerisindeki önemi vurgulanmıştır. Son zamanlarda literatürdeki taramalarda ahlak ve iktisat ilişkisi üzerine yapılan çalışmaların arttığı gözlemlenmiştir. Genel bağlamda ahlak ve iktisat uyum içerisinde olursa daha yaşanabilir iktisadi düzen getireceği sonucuna ulaşılsa da Ahlak soyut bir kavram olduğundan sayısallaştırma zorluğu nedeniyle iktisat içinde bağlam dışı görülmüştür.This thesis was written using qualitative research techniques. It is a study created with data collection methods such as observation and document analysis. The meta-synthesis method is one of the qualitative research methods and was used in the research. Qualitative findings in moral and economic order studies; It is a research that aims to explain, evaluate, reveal similarities and differences, and make new inferences. The existing and necessary bond of morality in the economic order has been examined, and all the studies done in the field have been synthesized and the importance of morality in the economic order has been emphasized. Recently, it has been observed that the studies on the relationship between morality and economics have increased in the literature. In general, although it is concluded that if morality and economics are in harmony, it will bring a more livable economic order, since morality is an abstract concept, it has been seen out of context in economics due to the difficulty of digitization

    Sequential left internal mammary artery grafting in combination with the aortic no-touch technique

    Aim: This study aimed to investigate the short-term outcomes achieved with off-pump bypass combined with the aortic no-touch technique where sequential anastomoses between the left internal mammary artery (LIMA), left anterior descending (LAD) and diagonal artery were employed. Material and methods: A total of 583 patients (mean age 63, 80% male) who underwent off-pump bypass (LIMA-diagonal-LAD sequential) were enrolled in this retrospective analysis. Data regarding the frequency of in-hospital postoperative complications, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and inotropic agent requirement, re-exploration for bleeding, and length of hospital stay were collected. Anastomosis patency was evaluated in 49 patients who underwent angiography. Results: 2.6% of the participants received inotropic agents and 0.5% required IABP. Frequency of acute renal failure, sternal wound infection, cerebrovascular event, respiratory failure, and hemodialysis was less than 1% in total. Among the 49 patients undergoing angiography at an average 41 ±17 months after bypass, the LIMA-LAD was patent in 98% and the LIMA-diagonal was patent in 84% of the subjects. Preoperative left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) and recent myocardial infarction (MI) prior to bypass were significantly correlated with postoperative IABP and inotropic agent requirement (r = 0.165, p < 0.01 for LVEF, p = 0.021 for recent MI). Conclusions: Off-pump bypass in combination with the aortic no-touch technique is associated with favorable postoperative outcomes including reduced postoperative stroke, renal dysfunction, IABP, and inotropic agent requirement compared to the results of previous randomized prospective studies published in the literature. © 2022 Termedia Publishing House Ltd..     Dental paleopathologies in western Anatolian skeletons from the Late Eastern Roman Period (Attepe and Derekoy settlements)

    The skeletons investigated herein were dated to the Late Eastern Roman Period, at the time of the golden age under the reign of the Macedonian dynasty ruled between 867 and 1056. In the Kutahya region, which acted as a border and frequently changed between the Eastern Roman and Seljuk states, the oral and dental health of the Attepe and Derekoy populations in this period was differed proportionally. A dam was constructed in Kutahya Province near Kureysler Village for irrigation purposes. The Attepe settlement (AD 986-1050) and Derekoy necropolis (AD 966-1032) are located within the boundaries of the dam lake. To save the cultural assets in these areas, excavation studies were conducted by the Kutahya Museum in the region in 2014. This study investigated 447 permanent teeth from 34 adult individuals in the Attepe population, and 270 permanent teeth from 17 adult individuals in the Derekoy population dated to the Late Eastern Roman period. When the distribution of dental diseases in the Attepe population was examined, it was determined that 13.77% had caries, 0.81% had periapical lesions, 68.18% had periodontal disease, 13.07% had calculus, 17.98% had hypoplasia, and 22.33% had antemortem tooth loss (AMTL). In the Derekoy population, 12.88% had caries, 2.01% had periapical lesions, 80% had periodontal disease, 3.83% had calculus, 23.28% had hypoplasia, and 5.37% had AMTL. In both populations, the degree of tooth wear was determined as grade 3 and 4. The dental data showed that agricultural-dominated nutrition consumption was effective in the Attepe and Derekoy populations. In both populations, there were significant differences between the amount of caries and calculus (p = 0.00 < 0.05) as well as tooth wear and calculus (p = 0.00 < 0.05). When all these findings were assessed in an integrated fashion, it was possible to understand the features of a village population being involved in agriculture and dominant stock farming in a region in western Anatolia during the 10th-11th centuries, which coped, for the most part, with epidemics and infectious diseases, wars, and perhaps periodic famines

    Zinc oxide nanoclusters and their potential application as CH4 and CO2 gas sensors: Insight from DFT and TD-DFT

    We have investigated the adsorption of CH4 and CO2 gases on zinc oxide nanoclusters (ZnO NCs) using density functional theory (DFT). It was found that the CH4 tends to be physically adsorbed on the surface of all the ZnO NCs with adsorption energy in the range −11 to −14 kcal/mol. Even though, the CO2 is favorably chemisorbed on the Zn12O12 and Zn15O15 NCs, with adsorption energy about −38 kcal/mol at B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory. When the CH4 and CO2 gases are adsorbed on the ZnO NCs, their electrical conductivities are decreased, and thus the studied ZnO NCs do not generate an electrical signal in the presence of CH4 and CO2 gases. Interestingly, both pure and gas adsorbed Zn22O22 NC exhibited more favorable electronic and reactive properties than other NCs. Comparison of the structural, electronic, and optical data predicted by DFT/B3LYP and TD-DFT/CAM-B3LYP calculations with those experimentally obtained show good agreement. © 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC

    Nano-tailored TiO2-based photocatalytic cementitious systems for NOx reduction and air cleaning

    Air quality is one of the main factors having incontestable effect on the quality of life of every being on earth. In addition to its effect on the public health, low air quality also has an indispensable negative effect on the society, environment, and economy as it requires rigorous efforts to be made for proper reduction and/or elimination. Because of the rapidly increasing urban population and industrial activities, the incremental trend in the air pollution, which is one of the world’s major problems nowadays, will most likely continue in the future since the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere is also expected to continue at an increasing pace as a consequence of the progressive man-made activities. Among various air pollutants, toxic nitrogen oxide (NOx) is of special interest recently as the release of NOx from the industrial organizations and vehicles has reached serious levels, especially in crowded cities. In an effort to adequately tackle the increased levels of NOx, researchers have looked into several solutions and realized that light irradiated from different types of sources [ultraviolet (UV), visible, solar light, etc.] activates the photocatalytic reactions reducing the pollutiveness of NOx and large surface areas of building members in contact with different light sources offer a unique opportunity for the elimination of detrimental effects of NOx through stimulation of photocatalytic reactions. Given the widespread utilization of cementitious systems in the construction industry, numerous ongoing and completed studies focusing on the use of various photocatalytic materials (photocatalysts) within the cementitious systems can be found. The main focus of these studies is to develop new-generation multi-functional cementitious composites with air cleaning feature without compromising the mechanical features and cost of production. In order to equip cementitious systems with the air cleaning feature, titanium dioxide (TiO2) is a very commonly used semiconductor photocatalyst. The commonness of utilization of TiO2 in cementitious systems is originated from the material’s high efficiency in oxidization of NOx, chemical/photochemical stability, chemical inertness in the absence of irradiation, safety, comparative cost-effectiveness, and nontoxicity. In this chapter, a comprehensive review about the mechanism/properties/advantages of TiO2-based photocatalytic multi-functional cementitious composites with air purification capability is presented. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd.     Experimental and DFT studies of 2-methyl-quinoxaline and its silver (I) complex: Non-covalent interaction analysis, antimicrobial activity and molecular docking study

    The current study describes the characterization and vibrational spectra (elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR and UV–Visible absorption) of 2-Methyl-quinoxaline (2-MQ) and synthesized [Ag(2-Methyl-quinoxaline)(NO3)]. The experimental investigation is supported by theoretical calculations at the DFT level. The frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO and LUMO), the global reactivity descriptors, MEP, and thermodynamic analysis are also computed to investigate the reactivity of the ligand and the complex. The intermolecular interactions in the title compound were analyzed by topological AIM and RDG approaches. The chemical structure of the ligand and its Ag(I) complex were elucidated by the ELF analysis. In addition, a molecular docking study was implemented to look into the studied compounds for their antibacterial activity. According to the molecular docking study used to evaluate the inhibitory effect on target proteins for antimicrobial drugs, the metal complex has a greater binding affinity than the free ligand. These compounds might thus be effective antibacterial candidates. Thus, antimicrobial studies have been performed with 2-MQ and Ag(I) complex against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The 2-MQ proved to be the most active compound in this study and showed the highest antimicrobial activity against S. aureus ATCC 29213, B. cereus 709 Roma, V. anguillarum ATCC 43312 and C. albicans ATCC 90028. Antimicrobial activity against Ag(I) complex, L. monocytogenes, V. anguillarum, A. hydrophila, E. aerogenes, S. dysenteria, B. cereus and C. albicans was determined. © 202

    The template reaction was performed between benzoylacetone-S-propylthiosemicarbazone and salicylaldehyde in the presence of Co(ClO4)2 and a square planar cobalt(II) complex, [Co(L)] (Co1) where L is a dibasic thiosemicarbazidato ligand was isolated. It was aimed to synthesize the octahedral cobalt complexes by using the co-ligands, pyridine and 2-amino pyridine. An octahedral cobalt(III) complex, [Co(L)(py)2]ClO4 (Co2), with two axial-pyridine ligands was obtained. Reaction with 2-amino pyridine gave an unexpected cobalt(III) centered structure, [Co(L1)]·H2O (Co3), where L1 is a new sixdentate (N4O2) ligand that yielded by the addition of the amino group of pyridine to the L ligand. L1 has tribasic thiosemicarbazidato structure that altered by the participation of an oxygen atom in addition to the amines. Experimental characterizations of three complexes have been completed using IR, NMR, UV–Vis, ESI-MS techniques and X-ray data. In order to better understand the intermolecular interactions of the structures, the Nonlinear Optical (NLO) properties and frontier orbitals (FMO) of the complexes were obtained using the Gaussian 09 program, DFT/B3LYP with 6–31 G (d, p) bas set for the C, N, O, H atoms and with LanL2DZ basic set for Co metal atom. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

    “We are much closer here”: exploring the use of WhatsApp as a learning environment in a secondary school mathematics class

    In this study, we examined a mathematics teacher’s communicative acts on an instant messaging tool, WhatsApp, and its role in creating a sustained learning environment between secondary-school students and a teacher in Turkey. The interactions of a mathematics teacher and his students (n = 38) over two years were explored. The WhatsApp group increased interaction in out-of-school hours. Analysis of the teacher’s communicative acts was the leading force that encouraged the group to continue to interact. The teacher portrayed an informal and sincere presentation of himself on social media. A constructive communication style between teacher and students was fostered by connecting through WhatsApp in out-of-school hours, when the teacher’s informal communicative acts have facilitated their learning. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V
