Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Audit and Risk Management Committee: Charter of operations

The Accountable Authority of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority has established an Audit and Risk Management Committee in compliance with section 45 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and section 17 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule 2014 (PGPA Rule). The primary function of the Committee is to provide independent advice and assistance to the Accountable Authority in respect of the appropriateness of financial reporting, performance reporting, the system of risk oversight and management, the system of internal control, for the entity

Building the resilience of the Great Barrier Reef: Key takeaways from the 2025 Reef Forum

The 2025 Reef Forum, convened by the Reef Authority, brought together 56 participants, including Traditional Owners, scientists, community representatives, industry stakeholders, NGOs, recreational fishers, and government agencies - at a critical juncture following consecutive mass coral bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef. The Forum aimed to enhance shared understanding of climate challenges and inform the evolution of resilience-based management across the Marine Park. Over two days, participants reviewed climate projections, emerging science, case studies, and practical scenarios, engaging with key concepts such as refugia, connectivity, the resilient reefs network, and new mapping tools. The discussions emphasised that business-as-usual approaches will not sustain the Reef under accelerating climate pressures. Protecting this iconic ecosystem will require flexible, proactive, and innovative management, guided by decisive action, risk-informed decision-making, and transparent communication. This outcomes document captures the breadth of perspectives and insights shared, without making formal recommendations

    Reef Snapshot: Summer 2024-25

Summer is a critical time for the health of coral with increased likelihood of exposure to stressors (e.g. elevated temperatures). This snapshot provides a summary of conditions on the Great Barrier Reef (the Reef) from December 2024 to March 2025, how these conditions impact coral, and actions underway to help coral reefs. The snapshot focuses on coral and does not present information on the health of other habitats or species. Each year, towards the end of summer, the snapshot is prepared by the three main Australian Government agencies with responsibilities for Reef management and science: the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (Reef Authority), Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), and CSIRO. This snapshot is based on the latest information available at the time of writing and sets the scene for the more comprehensive reports released later in the year, such as the mid‑year Long‑Term Monitoring Program reports by AIMS, and reports from the Marine Monitoring Program managed by the Reef Authority

Reef Blueprint 2030 - Great Barrier Reef Blueprint for Climate Resilience and Adaptation

Often referred to as 'Blueprint' and 'Reef BlueprintThe Great Barrier Reef Blueprint for Climate Resilience and Adaptation (Blueprint 2030) is the next chapter in addressing the challenge of climate change impacts on the Reef and will help us deliver on the objects of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 to protect and conserve the Reef now, and into the future. At the heart of Blueprint 2030 are five strategic goals that will drive how the Reef Authority adapts its management under a changing climate so we can progressively and effectively respond to the risks identified in the Outlook Report

    Sustainability Strategy 2024-2027

To limit the impacts of climate change on the Reef, we need to see substantially fewer greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere, and far more being removed. We also need to strengthen and build Reef resilience. The Reef Authority’s Sustainability Strategy 2024-2027 represents the strong commitment to reducing emissions through the delivery of Reef Authority services
