Swimming in a slurry of schemes: making sense of aquaculture standards and certification schemes
Get PDFGrowth in the number of certification schemes in the aquaculture industry has been attributed to several factors. The schemes contribute to improved traceability of products, provide healthier stocks, and provide more information to customers’ decision-making efforts. There is a wide range of certification schemes and standards available, addressing food safety, environmental impact, animal welfare, and worker conditions, to name a few. The abundance of certification schemes has resulted in concerns about consumers becoming confused with the number of labels and that certification schemes themselves may become a barrier to trade. This paper examines 5 major certification schemes in the aquaculture sector and categorizes them ac-cording to their purpose, proprietorship, and process. No full textDenne rapporten bygger på en evaluering av prosjektet «Er det plass for meg?» - et prosjekt i regi av X-Ray Ungdomskulturhus i Oslo. X-Ray har eksistert i mer enn 20 år og er i dag et av de største og mest brukte ungdomskulturhusene i Oslo. Det er et byomfattende tiltak med et omfattende og bredt aktivitetstilbud spesielt innen musikk og dans, samt skreddersydde tilbud for grupper med spesielle behov. I 2011 startet X-Ray Ungdomskulturhus et tilbud som fikk navnet «Inkluderingsdans» - et gratis tilbud for barn og ungdom med nedsatt funksjonsevne/spesielle behov. Bakgrunnen for dette var X-Rays fokus på ungdom og utenforskap, med særlig vekt på ungdom som i liten grad benytter seg av eksisterende kultur- og fritidstilbud. «Inkluderingsdansen» viste seg å dekke flere behov blant ungdommer med nedsatt funksjonsevne og ble derfor videreutviklet til et mer omfattende tilbud under prosjektet «Er det plass for meg?». Safety culture in maritime transport in Norway and Greece: Exploring national, sectorial and organizational influences on unsafe behaviours and work accidents
Get PDFHighlights • The study compares crew members on Norwegian and Greek cargo vessels and passenger vessels. • The study examines the influence of national safety culture, sector safety focus and organizational safety culture on (three types of) safety behaviours, compared with other variables. • The study examines the influence of safety behaviours and other factors on occupational injuries. • Organizational factors like demanding working conditions and organizational safety culture are the most important predictors of Risk acceptance/violations and Non-intervention/non-reporting. • National safety culture is the most important predictor of respondents’ tendency to work under the influence of alcohol/hungover. • Respondents’ occupational injuries are influenced by Risk acceptance/violations, nationality and age. • The study indicates that safety culture at different analytical levels, influence different types of unsafe behaviours, which in turn influence the risk of work injuries. • The study indicates that it is important to study safety culture at different analytical levels (i.e. the national, sectorial and organizational), to fully understand the influence of culture on safety in transport.publishedVersio
Complexity and rationality: a material-systemic approach
No full textPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to contribute to solving the complexity problem as increased complexity is a main reason why projects fail to reach their goals, and it is unclear what complexity is. Design/methodology/approach – Conceptual development integrating theories of materiality, teleology, and complexity, decision-making theory, communication theory, coordination theory, and qualitative, quantitative and participatory approaches are used in this paper. Findings – Tounderstandcomplexity,itisnecessary todevelopa material-systemic process approach and to distinguish structured from unstructured complexity. The social actors construct a complex material-systemic process between themselves and nature to handle unwieldy outer nature. The material-systemic approach reveals how materiel life-world arenas are developed through increased complexity and specialization. Handling complexity is possible by materiality in general and structural material in special, the interplay between inner time (planning) and outer time (production), and between human subjects and an underlying coordination mechanism. It is a systematic organizational blockade that reproduces internal complexity as unstructured and incomprehensible complexity. Research limitations/implications – The practical models of organizing are tested to the highest degree in construction industry. It is a task to try and examine the models in other types of projects. Originality/value – The paper offers a proposal to a theoretical solution to the complexity problem going back to the roots in Enlightenment and shows at the same time through practical models how increased complexity may be the most important productive force in future projects. Å bygge stein på stein : Gode grep i helhetlig boligsosialt arbeid for vanskeligstilte barnefamilier
Get PDFDenne rapporten avslutter et treårig samarbeid med Husbanken Midt Norge. I perioden 2015-2017 har NTNU Samfunnsforskning fulgt Husbanken Midt-Norges første steg i operasjonaliseringen av den nasjonale boligsosiale strategien Bolig for velferd (2014-2020). Flere departement og direktorat står samlet bak denne strategien, og statlige aktører på regionalt nivå (deriblant Husbanken) gikk sammen om å etablere og lede to læringsprosjekter og læringsnettverk med et knippe kommuner i regionen. Gjennom dette forskningsprosjektet har vi fulgt disse to læringsprosjektene, med hovedvekt på læringsprosjektet Bedre bo og levekår for vanskeligstilte barnefamilier. Rapporten presenterer gode grep i tre kommuner.publishedVersio
