The impact of Covid-19 pandemic on mental health and lifestyle in the population of Kaunas city /
Background: Nationwide lockdowns, encompassing mass quarantine under stay-at-home ordinances, have already proven effective in controlling the COVID-19 outbreak. A prolonged homestay may also be associated with potential side effects, which may jeopardize people’s health. Some undesirable consequences of prolonged homestay can be physical inactivity, behavioral addiction disorders and social isolation (Henry, Bovo, & Sanchis-Gomar, 2020). The aim of the study is to analyse the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and lifestyle in the population of Kaunas city. Methods of research: anonymous online survey, which included questions on demographics, eating habits, alcohol and tobacco consumption, physical activity (Global Physical Activity Questionnaire), sleep quality (Pittsburgh sleep quality index) and mental health (Patient Health Questionnaire – 9). Results: the study involved 388 respondents from Kaunas city. Women accounted for 80,7 %, and men for 19,3 % of respondents. Average of sedentary behavior during the pandemic – 430, 93 ± 233,47 min., before the pandemic – 324, 42 ± 216,21 min. (p <0,05). Average of moderate-intensity physical activity (PA) before the pandemic 122,40 ± 148,98 min., and during the pandemic – 85,33 ± 98,08 min. (p<0,05). Average of vigorous-intensity PA during the pandemic – 21,20 ± 34,13 min, and before – 47,13 ± 104,08 (p<0,05). The consumption of fast food on daily basis before the pandemic – 0,8 %, during the pandemic – 1,5 % (p<0,05). Before the pandemic 15,7 % of respondents overate, during the pandemic – 30,2 % of respondents (p<0,05). Before the pandemic 1,8% of respondents consumed alcohol every day, during the pandemic – 3,4 % of respondents (p<0,05). Symptoms of depression: 7,26 ± 1,46 points before the pandemic and 10,40 ± 2,20 points during the pandemic (p<0,05). Quality of sleep: 5,73 ± 2,20 points before the pandemic and 6,44 ± 2,99 during the pandemic (p<0,05). Conclusion: Sedentary behavior increased, while moderate-intensity and vigorous-intensity PA decreased (p<0,05) during the pandemic. The consumption of fruit and fast food increased during the pandemic (p<0,05) as well as the daily consumption of alcohol (p<0,05). The symptoms of depression were evaluated as mild (5–9 points) before the pandemic, and as moderate (10-14 points) during the pandemic (p<0,05). The quality of sleep was evaluated as worse during the pandemic than before the pandemic (p<0,05)
Associations between muscle-tendon morphology and functional movements capacity, flexibility, and balance in older women /
Loss of functional movement capacity in older adults is related to adverse changes in musculotendinous morphology, but this relationship is poorly understood. This study examined the associations between musculotendinous morphology and functional movements, flexibility, and balance ability. Ninety-nine older women (66.6 ± 4.6 years, body mass index 23.5 ± 3.3 kg∙m–2) were recruited from Chonburi Province, Thailand. During one 90-min visit, muscle ultrasound imaging of vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, and medial gastrocnemius muscles, and tendon ultrasonography of the Achilles tendon and patellar tendon were performed. Measures were also obtained for the straight leg raise, passive dorsiflexion, balance, and functional tests (Five Times Sit to Stand (5TSTS), Timed Up and Go (TUG), 10-Meter Fast Walk Test (10-MFWT), and 6-Minute Walk Test (6-MWT)). The results specify that functional movement performance correlates most strongly with medial gastrocnemius muscle thickness (5TSTS (r = −0.26), TUG (r = −0.44), 10-MFWT (r = 0.41), and 6-MWT (r = 0.48) all p < 0.05) and that vastus lateralis muscle thickness and medial gastrocnemius muscle thickness correlate positively with balance ability (r = 0.24, 0.34; p < 0.05) and negatively with fear of falling. It appears that muscle mass, rather than other morphological parameters, such as muscle quality or fascicle length, is the main factor affecting the susceptibility of older women to frailty
Evaluation of work mode and its importance for home–work and work–home relationships: the role of resilience, coping with stress, and passion for work /
The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated and facilitated the introduction of telework in organizations. This has also impacted the workers’ relationship between work and private life. The aim of the current study was to examine the links between resilience and mode of work (stationary vs. remote) and the work–home and home–work relationships, and whether they are mediated by passion for work and strategies of coping with stress. The study was carried out on a sample of 1251 participants from Great Britain, India, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Vietnam. The following measures were used: The Survey Work–Home Interaction, The Brief Resilience Coping Scale, The Passion Scale, and the Brief COPE. Results showed that the more stationary the mode of work, the lower the intensity of the negative influence of personal life on work. Resilience was revealed to have a positive effect on worker functioning. The study also showed a relationship between education and gender and passion for work. Finally, the importance of furthering the knowledge on the home–work and work–home relationships among teleworkers is discussed
Experienced stress among martial arts athletes from selected European Union countries during the 4th wave of the covid-19 pandemic and the frequency of using coping strategies /
Background and Study Aims: In sports, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affected variables such as training, recovery or athletes’ sleep quality, uncertainty about the future generating distress and anxiety in athletes. There are two cognitive purpose of the current study: knowledge about the subjectively experienced stress in martial arts athletes from selected Europe Union countries during the 4th wave of the pandemic; and knowledge of the likely of using coping strategies, and if so, with what frequency. Materials and Methods: Three hundred and forty-one competitive martial arts athletes from Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Spain were investigated (female n = 129, male n = 212). The athletes represented (according to division of the combat sports under forms of the direct confrontation): workings of weapons (fencing); hits (boxing, karate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, taekwondo); throws and grips of immobilisation of opponent’s body (Brazilian jiu-jitsu, freestyle wrestling, judo) were investigated. In this paper we analyse workings of weapons and hits as conventional “striking combat sports” SCS (in consequence FSCS or MSCS – for female and male respectively), while throws and grips of immobilization of opponent’s body as “grappling combat sports” GCS (FGCS and MGCS respectively). The Perception of Stress Questionnaire was used to measure intrapsychic stress, external stress and emotional tension in athletes, while through the Brief COPE questionnaire the frequency of use of 14 coping strategies was examined. Results: The highest intrapsychic stress levels, during the 4th wave of the pandemic, were registered by Slovak athletes, external stress was the highest among Italian martial arts athletes, while the highest emotional tension levels were reported by Latvian athletes. The lowest values were observed in Lithuanian martial arts athletes, in all three stress dimensions. Also, martial arts athletes who have tested positive for COVID-19 reported significantly higher levels of stress and used (during the 4th wave) more frequent denial, behavioural disengagement and less frequent positive reframing (as coping strategies). Gender and type of sport-dependent strategies to deal with stress were discussed: FSCS group used less frequently emotion-focused coping strategies than male athletes from both MSCS and MGCS (apparently a surprising result), and with a higher frequency dysfunctional coping strategies. No important differences were found between the four investigated groups of athletes MGCS, MSCS, FGCS and FSCS) with respect to the problem-focused coping strategies. Conclusions: Martial arts (combat sports) athletes who have tested positive for COVID-19 reported significantly higher levels of intrapsychic stress, emotional tension and external stress, compared to athletes which reported that they have not suffered from COVID-19. Denial and behavioural disengagement (as dysfunctional coping strategies) were more frequent among athletes which reported that they were sick with COVID-19, while positive reframing was significantly less used. The research can be of interest for martial arts athletes, coaches, parents and sports psychologists seeking to promote the most effective strategies to deal with negative stress, if the pandemic will have long-term consequences for athletes’ mental health and well-being
Digital transformation and industry 4.0 initiatives for market competitiveness: business integration management model in the healthcare industry /
The main objective of this research is to examine the concept of industry 4.0 through digital transformation using the business integration management model for market competitiveness in the healthcare industry. Partial objectives are to analyze its effectivity in terms of a value proposition, specifically, value delivery transformation, value capture transformation, patients’ empowerment, community-based transformation, market competitiveness, and globalization transformation. We further analyze the role of advanced technology in digital transformation. For this purpose, we employ a structured questionnaire completed by 4429 respondents representing stakeholders from the United States and Pakistan. We use SEM-based multivariate approaches such as exploratory and confirmatory factors analysis and conditional process modeling for the data analysis. The findings of this study demonstrate that the digital transformation integration model significantly and positively affects value delivery transformation, value capture transformation, patients’ empowerment, community-based transformation, and globalization transformation for market competitiveness. The findings further reveal that technological advancement has a significant moderating impact between the digital transformation integration model, value delivery transformation, value capture transformation, patients’ empowerment, community-based transformation, and globalization transformation that also increase the market competitiveness of healthcare industries, including hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, and other related industries. The findings of the undertaken study have imperative theoretical and practical implications. Industry practitioners can gain optimal financial and social competitiveness through digital transformation using the business integration management model
The effects of physiotherapy on the neck function for nonspecific neck pain.
Study problem – what are the most the effective physiotherapy methods in order to reduce pain, and improve the function of the neck when experiencing nonspecific neck pain. Hypothesis: the exercise programme made for neck and shoulders is more effective for treating nonspecific neck pain, than the exercise programme made for the whole body muscles (Iversen et al., 2018). The purpose of the job – to evaluate different physiotherapy methods and their effect on the neck function when having nonspecific neck pain. Job tasks: 1.To compare different physiotherapy methods on the changes of pain intensity. 2.To compare different physiotherapy methods of the neck function limits and range of motion changes. 3.To compare the effects of different physiotherapy methods in hand grip muscle strength and neck flexor muscles endurance changes. 4.To evaluate the effects of different physiotherapy methods on spinal mobility before and after the study. Research methods: Dynamometry, Goniometry, Neck Disability Index, Fingertips – Floor Distance Test, Neck Flexor Endurance Test and Numerical Pain Rating Scale. Results: After the study in both groups the pain, functional disability limitations have decreased, however, active range of motions of the neck, hand grip muscle strength, flexor muscle endurance, and spinal mobility has increased (p≤0,05). The group that applied the exercise program to all muscle groups had higher spinal mobility and flexor muscle endurance than the local exercise group (p≤0,05). The change in pain relief was greater in the neck-shoulder exercise group compared to the exercise program group for all muscle groups (p≤0,05). Conclusions: After physiotherapy, the group treated with neck-shoulder exercises had a greater reduction in pain, functional disability limitations, increased active range of motions of the neck, and hand grip muscle strength than the group treated with the all-muscle exercise program. After the study, neck flexor muscle endurance and, improvement in spinal mobility were greater in the group that received the exercise program for all muscle groups
Links between parental health literacy of Klaipėda district preschool children and their physical activity and eating habits within family.
Research problem: Parents are the first educators of a child's health, they have the main responsibility for the child's development and nurture. Our future society’s health depends on a large extent on the foundation parents provide for maintaining and strengthening health in early childhood. In order for parents to develop appropriate lifestyle habits for their children, they need to understand the information provided about maintaining health and they need to be able to adapt it. Research shows that parental health literacy is directly related to family’s lifestyle habits (Buhr and Tannen, 2020; Guo et al., 2018; Rapolienė et al., 2017). Therefore, it is likely that parents with higher levels of health literacy can more effectively improve and nurture their own and their children’s healthy eating and physical activity habits. The aim of the research- is to determine the links between the health literacy of preschool children’s parents and their physical activity and eating habits in the family. Research tasks: 1. To reveal the importance of a healthy eating and physical activity in the family and the concept of health literacy based on the analysis of the scientific literature; 2. To determine preschool children’s parents’ health literacy; 3. To determine preschool children’s parents’ physical activity and eating habits; 4. To determine the links between parental health literacy and their family lifestyle habits. Research hypothesis: It is likely that parents who have the higher health literacy, eating and physical activity habits are more health-friendly and more in line with the recommendations. Methodology of investigation: this research is going to use analysis of scientific literature and quantitative research used by questionnaire method. 329 parents who have pre-school children were interviewed electronically in Klaipeda district. Data was calculated by using SPSS software (SPSS version 20) and MS Excel. Conclusions: 1. Recommended physical activity and a healthy diet are some of the lifestyle factors that can lead to our overall health. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle in today's dynamic world, it is essential to be able to seek, understand and use knowledge, that is, to have the highest possible level of health literacy. 2. About half of Klaipeda district’s parents who have pre-school children are considered to have sufficient health literacy (46,5 percent), 16,7 percent - excellent, 7 percent - inadequate, 29,8 percent - have problematic health literacy. Those with higher education and those who rate their health as better are significantly more likely to have an excellent level of health literacy. 3. Most parents of preschool children in Klaipeda district consider their families active and choose active leisure; they choose products in the store based on health benefits, and agree with the statements of healthy eating and physical activity education in their families, but the analysis of eating and activity habits showed that both parents and their children still do not meet health recommendations. 4. The level of parental health literacy is related to lifestyle habits in the family and the higher it is, the more health-friendly habits are formed and developed. Lifestyle habits were also influenced by other socio-demographic indicators, most of which were education. People with higher health literacy and education were significantly more likely to agree with the statements of healthy nutrition and physical activity education in their families. those families have more healthy habits, they pay attention to health benefits when choosing products in the store, and more often they rather choose active leisure

Study of leisure time physical activity of the Lithuanian adult population.
The aim of the study to determine the physical activity of the Lithuanian adult population in their leisure time. The study of leisure-time physical activity of the Lithuanian adult population was the study of the actual diet, nutrition and physical activity habits of the adult and elderly Lithuanian population and the knowledge about nutrition and physical activity, which was conducted in 2019, part; The study was conducted by the Center for Health Education and Disease Prevention in conjunction with municipal public health offices. The survey was conducted at the respondent’s homes with their oral consent. The survey was anonymous, no information had to be written to identify the respondent. Research methods: a survey using the leisure physical activity part of the GPAQ (Global Physical Activity Questionnaire). Sufficiently physically active 31 percent. men and 39 percent. women. The average duration of high-intensity PA was 125 minutes per week for men and 83 minutes per week for women. The duration of moderate-intensity PA was 200 minutes per week for men and 210 minutes per week for women. The older people, the lower the duration of high-intensity PA (both men and women) and the longer the duration of moderate-intensity PA. Primary, secondary education high-intensity PA 122 minutes per week, women – 80 minutes per week.; special higher education – 117 and 77 minutes per week; higher education – 133 and 89 minutes per week. High-intensity PA activities lasted less for women (86 minutes per week in urban areas, 74 minutes per week in rural areas) (130 minutes per week in urban areas and 104 minutes per week in rural areas)
Effects of land and water physiotherapy on the amplitude of neck movements, muscle spasticity, skull flattening and motor development in infants with congenital muscular torticollis.
The research problem: It is unclear which intervention is the most effective on infants with congenital muscular torticollis, range of motion, muscle tone, plagiocephaly and motor development. The aim: Evaluate and compare the effects of land and water physiotherapy on the neck range of motion, muscle tone, plagiocephaly and motor development in infants with congenital muscular torticollis. Hypotesis: According to the authors (Matsumoto ir kt., 2016; Veldema and Jansen, 2020; Saqueto et al., 2019) we think that physiotherapy in water is more effective than physiotherapy on land in order to increase range of motion, decrease spasticity and improve motor development. Objectives: Evaluate and compare the effects of land and water physiotherapy on the (1) neck range of motion, (2) muscle spasticity, (3) plagiocephaly and (4) motor development in infants with congenital muscular torticollis. Methods: In the experiment participated 30 subjects, from ages between 0-12 months old. The subjects randomly separated into 2 groups: physiotherapy on land and physiotherapy in water. Before starting the experiment the motor development condition was evaluated applying the Munich developmental diagnostics and collected the measurement data, neck movement amplitude – measured with a goniometer, muscle spasticity valuated by the modified Ashworth scale, the plagiocephaly was measured using a craniometer. The investigation happened before the experiment after 8 weeks. the experiment was going on for 8 weeks, 2 times a week, each activity was around 45min. were on land and water. Results: There was set a meaningful neck movement amplitude rise (p<0,05), muscle spasticity reduction (p<0,05), skull cranial vault asymmetry reduction (p<0,05) and coefficient of motor development rise (p<0,05). Also a meaningful difference between the groups was set, motor development statistically meaningfully improved KIN in water, compared to KIN on land group. Conclusions: Both physiotherapy on land and in water increased neck range on motion, decreased the muscle spasticity and decreased plagiocephaly. However motor development in water was more effective
