Investigating Social Media Addiction in the Context of Digital Storytelling

    No full text
Abstract Being easy to access and share, social media platforms cause people to spend most of their time in these places. Individuals share pictures, music, and video content in these places; they follow the content shared by others as well. Such appeals of social media lead individuals to become addicted to social media. In this study, social media addiction was evaluated on the basis of the platform, the addicted environment, and the characteristics of the user. In addition, the study is explained with examples, especially on the Instagram platform, through digital storytelling

Mediating Effect of Employee Performance on the Relationship Between Emotional Labour and Intent to Leave Among Nurses

    No full text
In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of nurses’ emotional labor levels on their intention to leave and to determine whether employee performance plays a mediating role in this relationship. The study is of descriptive cross-sectional type, which was conducted through a questionnaire on nurses. The surface acting has positive effect on the intent to leave among nurses, whereas deep acting has negative effect; employee performance has partial mediating role on the relationship between the surface acting and intent to leave, and the relationship between deep acting and intent to leave. The study is considered to provide significant tips in the identification of nurses with higher risk to leave the work, and in deciding managerial interventions that would be realised against such circumstances. It is suggested that it may be beneficial for nurse managers to organise training in their units, to evaluate the performance of nurses at regular intervals and thus to determine the reason for the increase and decrease, to plan activities that will reduce emotional burden

Choice Theory, which is a well-established psychological framework that emphasizes the importance of meeting basic psychological needs for human well-being and optimal functioning. The use of a reliable and valid measure like the BNSBCT can lead to more accurate and meaningful research findings, which can inform the development of interventions or policies aimed at improving individuals' basic psychological needs fulfillment in various contexts especially in education. The aim of this study was to develop a measurement instrument to find out the satisfaction levels of basic needs in adult population and to test the psychometric properties of the scale. Individuals aged 18 and older, who were reached with convenience sampling method, participated in the study. Exploratory Factor Analysis was conducted with the data obtained from 381 participants, while Confirmatory Factor Analysis was conducted with the data obtained from 194 participants and goodness of fit indices were found to be χ²/df= 1.64; GFI=.85; IFI=.91; TLI=.90; CFI=.91; PNFI=.71; PGFI=.69; SRMR=.64 and RMSEA=.06. The 25-item scale includes five factors. Face validity of the scale is .91, while convergent validity value is .70. In terms of reliability, McDonald's Omega coefficient was found to be .92, while test-retest correlation coefficient was found to be .83. The results show that Basic Needs Scale based on Choice Theory is a valid and reliable measurement instrument. As a result, it can be stated that the scale can be used to determine the level of meeting the basic needs of adults

    No full text
In this article, generalized Sasakian space forms are investi-gated on W0-curvature tensor. Characterizations of generalized Sasakian space forms are obtained on W0-curvature tensor. Special curvature con-ditions established with the help of Riemann, Ricci, concircular, projec-tive curvature tensors are discussed on W0-curvature tensor. With the help of these curvature conditions, important characterizations of gener-alized Sasakian space forms are obtained. In addition, the concepts of W0-pseudosymmetry and W0-Ricci pseudosymmetry are defined and the behavior according to these concepts for the generalized Sasakian space form is examined

Examining the impact of rural finance development on farmers' incomes in business context. Evidence from "The Belt and Road" from key provinces

The gradual increase in the world population has a significant impact on businesses, productivity, and financial development in the context of rural life. As the population continues to grow, there is increasing pressure on farming systems to produce more food to meet the growing demand. In addition, the growing population can lead to an increased demand for natural resources such as water, land, and forests. This can create challenges for rural communities that depend on these resources for their livelihoods. In this study, it was determined as a problem that the financial system deepened in regions where the savings base was not large enough and the level of savings was not at the desired level. In this context, since improving the management of the rural labor structure and increasing investments in science and technology can also increase farmers' incomes, the study aims to deepen rural financial reform and increase the efficiency of the financial system in business management. In the study, the key provinces of "The Belt and Road" (except Chongqing and Tibet) were considered as research objects and 2000-2015 annual panel data were used to analyze the threshold regression model. According to the research findings, when the threshold of financial development efficiency is variable, the growth of farmers' incomes in general is prevented, when the scale of financial development is variable, the effect on farmers' incomes gradually changes from negative to positive. In line with these findings, it is recommended to strengthen the quality of education of rural workers and promote the integration of urban and rural areas, increase investments in agricultural science and technology, and improve the service system of agricultural science and technology

Çalışmada elde edilen nükleotit dizileri, MetaPIGA2, MRBAYES v.3.1.2, “phyogenetic analysis using parsimony (PAUP v.4.0b10)”, Unigen programları, maksimum likelihood (ML), Bayesian (BI) ve parsimoni (P) yöntemleri kullanılarak filogenetik analiz yapılmıştır. Cystic Echinococcosis (CE) caused by Echinococcus granulosus sensu strico is neglected in Türkiye de- spite being one of the common diseases due to agriculture being at the forefront, low socioeconomic status and unhygienic animal slaughter. Considering the morbidity, mortality, and difficulties in treatment, more studies and precautions are needed regarding this disease. In this study, it was aimed to genotype Echinococcus isolated from CE patients in the Central Anatolia region. DNA isolation from tissue samples taken from 60 CE patients was performed using the QIAamp DNA FFPE tissue kit. Cytochrome c oxidase subunit gene region of Echinococcus was targeted and JB3/JB4.5 primers were used for genotyping. Poly- merase chain reaction (PCR) products were purified according to the instructions for use of the QIAquick PCR purification kit. PCR products were prepared using the ABI Prism BigDye Terminator V3.1 Cycle sequencing kit and the nucleotide sequences in the samples were evaluated with the ABI 3100 sequenc- ing device. The nucleotide sequences obtained in the study were analyzed using MetaPIGA2, MRBAYES v.3.1.2, phyogenetic analysis using parsimony, Unigen programs, maximum likelihood, Bayesian and par- simony methods. It has been found that 88.4% (53/60) of Echinococcus isolates were E.granulosus s.s. in this study. It has been genotyped as 41.7% (25/60) G1, 30.0% (18/60) G3 and 16.7% (10/60) G2 geno- type. It has been determined that 6.6% (4/60) of the other Echinococcus isolates were E.equinus and 5.5% (3/60) were E.ortleppi. It was observed that E.equinus and E.ortleppi were isolated from atypically located cysts and from those living in rural areas. The E.equinus and E.ortleppi species were not found in CE patients living in urban areas. CE cases are common in the Central Anatolia region due to dog and cattle breeding, and the disease agent Echinococcus species vary. Genotyping of Echinococcus species is effective in the de- velopment of CE treatment and control strategies. Study results can play an active role in the fight against CE, which has formed the basis of the “one health” approach in the world and in Türkiye in recent years

Toxic effects of the synthetic pyrethroid permethrin on the hematological parameters and antioxidant enzyme systems of the freshwater fish Cyprinus carpio L

    No full text
This study investigated changes in hematological and antioxidant parameters of carp exposed to two different doses of synthetic pyrethroid permethrin (control, vehicle, 10 ppm, and 20 ppm) for two different periods (4 days and 21 days). Hematological analyses were then performed on a veterinary Ms4 (Melet Schloesing, France) blood counter using commercially available kits (Cat. No. WD1153). Buege and Aust for MDA, Luck for CAT, McCord and Frivovich for SOD, Lawrence and Burk methods for GSH-Px were used to determine antioxidant parameters. Decreases in RBC count, Hb amount, Hct value, granulocyte ratios, and increases in total WBC and lymphocyte ratios were statistically significant in both dose groups treated with permethrin compared to the control group (p 0.05). Overall, permethrin exposure caused an increase in MDA levels in the liver and gill tissues of carp in both dose and duration groups compared to the control group. Also, no statistically significant difference between the two dose groups in the liver tissue was observed in terms of duration (p > 0.05). Nonetheless, the increase in MDA levels in PERM10 and PERM20 dose groups in the gill tissues over 21 days was statistically significant (p 0.05). As a result, permethrin produced a toxic effect on Cyprinus carpio, triggering changes in blood parameters and inducing the antioxidant enzyme system

Red deer algorithm-based selective harmonic elimination technique for multilevel inverters

This paper proposed a red deer algorithm (RDA)-based selective harmonic elimination (SHE) method for multilevel inverters (MLIs). To eliminate the desired harmonic orders, the optimum switching angles of the MLI have been calculated using the proposed RDA. The calculated switching angles have been applied to the 3-phase cascaded H-bridged 11-level inverter. In addition, the performance of the proposed RDA method was compared with the results of methods such as the Newton-Raphson (NR) method, LSHADE/EpSin technique (LSHADE), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and particle swarm optimization (PSO) used for the SHE problem in the literature. The results obtained prove that the proposed RDA optimization solves the SHE problems more effectively than other methods. It has also been observed that RDA produces good solutions in different modulation indexes

Teaching Developmentally Appropriate Warm-Up Drills in Physical Education

The warm-up is the most important part of the physical education classes, where the student's interest and attention are drawn and motivated towards the lesson purpose. However, many physical education teachers do not give enough attention to the beginning and warm-up part of the lesson when planning their lessons. Faigenbaum & McFarland (2007) stated that warm-up activities help prepare students for dynamic activities and increase their lesson time with physical activity. Warm-up in physical education classes is a part that should emphasize, primarily since it constitutes a basis for the main phase. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to provide some developmentally appropriate warm-up examples to increase the quality of the physical education lesson
