    Visitors' experiences of UNESCO World Heritage Site: evidence from Göbeklitepe, Türkiye

    Purpose: This study seeks to investigate and discuss the heritage experiences of both domestic and international visitors at Göbeklitepe UNESCO World Heritage Site in Türkiye. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative research approach was adopted in the current study. TripAdvisor's comments and reviews of both domestic (n = 519) and international (n = 186) visitors regarding their visits to Göbeklitepe were collected. The data were then subjected to content analysis by MAXQDA as qualitative data analysis software. Additionally, an abductive research approach, which consisted of three stages, was implemented for data analysis. Findings: The three aspects of visitor experiences at Göbeklitepe, including cognitive, emotional and relational experiences were found and discussed. Additionally, commonalities and differences among domestic and international visitors in terms of the heritage experience they gained from their visit to Göbeklitepe were revealed and analyzed. Practical implications: Based on the findings regarding the main aspects of heritage experiences at Göbeklitepe, including cognitive, emotional and relational experiences, site managers and destination marketers can create effective marketing strategies that focus on those characteristics to attract visitors to the site. Moreover, the study can guide destination marketers to develop targeted marketing campaigns that highlight the different historical and religious significance of the site for both groups of domestic and international visitors. Originality/value: First, the study affirms that Göbeklitepe is an important and impressive cultural heritage site due to its historical significance to both domestic and international visitors. It also strengthens the multifaceted nature of heritage experiences. Especially, the evidence of relational heritage experiences, including the connectedness to heritage and the sense of belonging to the visitor community, enriches the literature of heritage experience in this regard

    Material analysis for restoration application: a case study of the world’s first university Mor Yakup Church in Nusaybin, Mardin

    The Mor Yakup Church, located in the Nusaybin District of Mardin, is known as the world’s frst educational university in history and represents one of the oldest Christian medieval monuments. In this study, it is aimed to determine the factors of the strength problems of the structure by investigating the characterization of building materials and what kind of factors afect the material behavior with various observational and experimental methods. It was determined that the main deterioration types in the materials of the building were erosion, fractures, loss of parts and the dissolve of the joint mortars between the masonry work on the facades. Since the materials used in the construction of the building are unable in terms of physico-mechanics, it has been determined that the severe continental climate conditions prevailing in the region easily cause such physical deterioration on the construction materials. In addition, the presence of clays in the conventional mortar used in the building has been defned as an internal problem that causes the material to get tired with the osmotic pressure it creates by absorbing water. A very high rate of salinization was detected in the building materials of the building and it was observed that this salting was caused by the acid efect caused by air pollution and the portland cement used in the previous repairs in the building. Finally, this study presents restoration recommendations to repair the material deterioration in the building and to prevent its occurrence in the future

    İslam öncesi dönemde şiirde intihal konusu, kadim ve modern birçok eleştirmen ve araştırmacının zihnini meşgul eden önemli konulardan birisidir. Bu konu, Arap edebiyat eleştirmenleri arasında tartışma konusu olması hasebiyle eleştiri kitaplarında da genişçe yer almıştır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, klasik Arap edebiyat eleştirisinde İslam öncesi şiirindeki intihal olgusu ve intihalin köken meselesi, bu edebi olgu hakkında oryantalistlerin ve modern edebiyat eleştirmenlerinin görüşlerine yer vermektir. Çalışmada, farklı merhalelerde eski Arap şiirinin, ardından metinler. Daha sonra, klasik ve modern Arap eleştirme, daha sonar söz konusu idialarına yanıt vermek suretiyle İslam öncesi döneme ait şiiri bu tartışmanın dışında tuttuk. modern dönemde teknoloji ve sosyal media aracılığıyla intihalin yayılmasının nedenlerine ve bilimsel çalışmaların kalitesine olan etkilerine ve bu intihallerin nasıl olduğuna değindik. Çalışmamızın sonunda, sonuçlara, intihalin yayılmasını sınırlayan önerilere yer verdik.The issue of plagiarism in pre-Islamic poetry is one of the important issues that occupied many critics and researchers, ancient and modern, and was the subject of discussion between ancient and modern Arab critics and because of its importance, critical books were filled with it. The purpose of this research is to stand at the phenomenon of plagiarism in the ancient Arab criticism of pre-Islamic poetry, the origin issue of plagiarism, explain it from its roots, and compare the opinions of ancient scholars, orientalists, and modernists on this literary phenomenon. We talked about the emergence of ancient Arabic poetry in its various stages, then we talked about plagiarism and poetic theft through the aesthetic of intertextuality and its relationship to literary theft. We discussed plagiarism among the ancient and modern Arab critics and orientalists as well as absolved pre-Islamic poetry of plagiarism by responding to the allegations of orientalists and their followers. We talked about plagiarism in the modern era through technology and social media, the reasons for its spread and its effects on the quality of scientific research, and how to address these scientific thefts in our modern era. We concluded the research with the research results and recommendations that limit the spread of plagiarism phenomenon

    Gebelerin COVID-19 Aşı Karşıtlığı ve Etkileyen Faktörler: Kesitsel Bir Araştırma

    Objective: The severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 virus is transmitted from person to person through contact, droplets, and airborne particles. The vaccine is effective in controlling the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Pregnant women due to changes in their bodies are vulnerable to infectious diseases, some of which can be prevented by vaccination. This study, it was aimed to examine the hesitancy of the COVID-19 vaccine in pregnant women and the factors affecting it. Material and Methods: The population of this cross-sectional study consisted of all pregnant women aged 15-49 years who applied to Mardin Training and Research Hospital. The convenience sampling method was used in the study, and all pregnant women (n=211) who applied to the hospital between October 10, 2022-December 23, 2022, met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study constituted the sample of the study. The data was collected using the “questionnaire form” and the “Vaccine Hesitancy Scale.” Cronbach alpha value of the scale was found to be 0.790. and the total mean score was found to be 61.24±11.63 it was determined that the pregnant women had a “moderate” level of hesitancy to vaccination. Results: It has been concluded that the husband’s education status, the gestation week, the number of pregnancies, the presence of chronic patients in the household, and the history of abortion were effective on the vaccine hesitancy in the pregnant woman. Conclusion: Pregnant women should be informed more about vaccination and encouraged to be vaccinated. More studies on the subject are needed.Amaç: Şiddetli akut solunum sendromu-koronavirüs-2 virüsü, insandan insana temas, damlacık ve havada asılı partiküller yoluyla bulaşmaktadır. Aşı, koronavirüs hastalığı-2019 [coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)] pandemisini kontrol altına almada etkilidir. Gebeler vücutlarında meydana gelen değişiklikler nedeniyle, bazıları aşı ile önlenebilen bulaşıcı hastalıklarda savunmasız bir gruptur. Bu çalışmada, gebelerin COVID-19 aşı karşıtlığı ve etkileyen faktörleri incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Kesitsel tipte olan bu çalışmanın evrenini Mardin Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesine başvuran 15-49 yaş aralığındaki tüm gebeler oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada kolayda örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmış olup, 10 Ekim 2022-23 Aralık 2022 tarihleri arasında hastaneye başvuran, çalışmaya dâhil edilme kriterlerini karşılayan ve çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden tüm gebeler (n=211) araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Veriler “anket formu” ve “Aşı Karşıtlığı Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Ölçeğin Cronbach alfa değeri 0,790, toplam puan ortalaması 61,24±11,63 olarak bulunmuştur ve gebelerin aşı karşıtlığının “orta” düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bulgular: Eş eğitim durumu, gebelik haftası, gebelik sayısı, hanede kronik hasta varlığı ve abortus öyküsünün gebelerde aşı karşıtlığı üzerinde etkili olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Sonuç: Gebelerin aşı konusunda daha çok bilgilendirilmeleri ve aşıya teşviklerinin sağlanması gerekmektedir. Konu ile ilgili daha çok çalışmaya ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır

    Investigation of Injury Anxiety Levels of Athletes

    Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı, Mardin ilinde aktif erkek sporcuların yaralanma kaygı düzeylerini farklı değişkenlere göre incelenmesidir. Materyal ve Metot: Araştırmaya 18-26 yaş aralığından toplam 453 sporcu katılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin toplanması için Rex ve Metzler’in (2016) geliştirdiği, Caz ve ark., (2019) tarafından Türkçe’ye uyarlanan “Spor Yaralanması Kaygı Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 25 programı ile Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis H ve Tamhane’s T2 testleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Sporcuların yaralanma kaygı düzeyleri karşılaştırıldığında; yaşa göre zayıf algılanma kaygısı, eğitim durumuna göre hayal kırıklığına uğrama kaygısı, spor yapma düzeyine göre yeteneğini kaybetme kaygısı ile acı çekme kaygısı, sporla ilgilenme yılına göre zayıf algılanma kaygısı ile acı çekme kaygısı, haftalık antrenman sayısına göre yeteneğini kaybetme kaygısı, zayıf algılanma kaygısı ile acı çekme kaygısı ve yaşanılan sakatlık süresine göre yeteneğini kaybetme kaygısı, acı çekme kaygısı ile yeniden yaralanma kaygısı alt boyutlarında anlamlı farklılıkların olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<0,05). Sonuç: Sonuç olarak sporcuların yaş, eğitim durumu, spor yapma düzeyi, sporla ilgilenme yılı, haftalık antrenman yapma sayısı ve yaşanılan sakatlık süresi değişkenlerinin yaralanma kaygılarının bazı alt boyutları üzerinde farklılıklara neden olduğu görülmüştür. Sporcuların yaralanmaya kaygıları hakkında antrenörlere bilgi verilmesi gerektiği, hatta sporcuların bu kaygılarının giderilmesi konusunda antrenörler ile spor psikologların iş birliği içerisinde çalışmasının faydalı olabileceği önerilebilir

    Gastronomic Experience

    Today, the phenomenon of food has transformed from the satisfaction of a physiological need into a hedonic experience. Gastronomy has an important role in this transformation. Gastronomy is an interdisciplinary phenomenon and many academic disciplines address this phenomenon from different perspectives (Seyitoğlu & Çalışkan, 2018:524). Tourism is one of these fields. The fact that gastronomy offers touristic experience, supports local development and sustainable tourism, and provides tourists with more permanent and unforgettable experiences can be explained as the main issues examined between gastronomy and tourism (Nebioğlu, 2016:7). In this context, the concept of experience has a critical importance for the tourism sector. Tourists see gastronomic experience as an important part of their travel motivation and enrich their travel experience by having a gastronomic experience during their travels (Agyeiwaah et al., 2019:295). Food and beverage activities are an important element that reflects the natural resources and cultural heritage of a society as well as a basic lifelong human need. In this context, gastronomy tourism can be explained as a type of tourism that creates travel motivation towards a particular destination to experience a new local food and beverage experience and is effective in determining travel behaviors. In addition, gastronomy tourism is a concept that refers to the movement of tourists who visit food and beverage producers, food festivals, restaurants and special gastronomic venues to try a certain type of food or witness the production process of a dish (Hall & Sharples, 2003:10). Thanks to gastronomy tourism, tourists can both get to know the culture, history, geography and people of the region and have a gastronomic experience. Gastronomic experience basically includes food experiences. In terms of gastronomy tourism, it can be defined as the sensory, emotional, cognitive, behavioral and relational reactions that tourists experience as a result of the activities carried out. This experience is related to how tourists perceive, evaluate, feel and remember food and beverages. Gastronomic experience is a complex and dynamic process that is influenced by various components such as the characteristics of the food and the aesthetics of its presentation, the characteristics of the individual, the atmosphere of the environment and the social environment. These components not only constitute the whole gastronomic experience but also interact with each other. It is important to understand each component to enhance the quality and satisfaction of the gastronomic experience. Explaining the components of the gastronomic experience will be beneficial for both the producers and consumers of the experience. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between tourism and gastronomy and to examine the gastronomic experience conceptually. In line with the purpose of the study, a literature review was conducted and theoretical and empirical studies on tourism, gastronomy, gastronomic experience and the components of gastronomic experience were reviewed. In this context, the study first examined the relationship between tourism and gastronomy. Then, the concept of gastronomic experience is explained and the components that make up the gastronomic experience are evaluated in line with the purpose of the study

    Non-ST Yükselmeli Miyokard Enfarktüsü Sonrası Ticagrelor Kullanan Bir Hastada Semptomsuz Derin Trombositopeni: Bir Vaka Raporu

    Giriş: Ticagrelor, trombosit P2Y12 reseptörünü etkin bir şekilde inhibe eden güçlü bir oral ilaçtır (1) ve trombosit aktivasyonunun merkezi bir amplifikasyon yolunu hem doğrudan hem de aktif bir metabolit aracılığıyla engeller (2). İlaç, günde iki kez verildiğinde dolaşımda tutarlı bir şekilde hızlı başlangıç ve sonlanışa sahip anti-trombosit etkisi gösterir (3). Ticagrelor, geri döndürülebilir özelliklere sahiptir, ters agonist özelliklere sahiptir ve anti-trombotik, anti- enflamatuar ve damar genişletici özelliklere katkı sağlayan pleiotropik etkiler sergiler (4). Vaka Sunumu: 45 yaşında erkek hasta, göğüs ağrısı şikayeti ile acil servise başvurdu. Troponin pozitifliği saptandıktan sonra Non-ST Yükselmeli Miyokard Enfarktüsü (NSTEMI) tanısı ile koroner yoğun bakım ünitesine yatırıldı. Hastaya, 2 (180 mg) ticagrelor tablet, 300 mg asetilsalisilik asit (ASA) tablet ve 10.000 ünite Unfraksiyone Heparin (UFH) i.v. olarak verildi. Hasta acil servise gelişinde yapılan kan testlerinde trombosit değerinin 225.000 olduğu görüldü. Hastaya Doppler ekokardiyografi uygulandı; Ejeksiyon fraksiyonu (EF) %50, segmenter duvar hareket bozukluğu, sol ventrikül hipertrofisi (LVH), sol ventrikül diyastolik disfonksiyonu (LVDD) saptandı. Sol radial arterden yapılan koroner anjiyografi ile LAD-D1 seviyesinde %99 darlığa stent implante edildi (Şekil 1). Revaskülarizasyon sonrası hastaya ASA 100 mg tb 1x1, tikagrelor 90 mg tb 2x1, atorvastatin 40 mg tb 1x1, metoprolol 50 mg tb 1x1 tedavisine devam edildi. Hastanın 3 günlük hastane takibinde trombosit değerlerinin normal olduğu görüldü. Taburculukta hasta mevcut ilaçları reçete edilerek taburcu edildi. Yaklaşık 1 hafta sonra kontrol amaçlı polikliniğe başvuran hastanın yapılan rutin tetkiklerinde trombosit sayısı 38.000 olarak görüldü. Bir gün sonra kontrol amaçlı tekrar trombosit değeri görüldü ve trombosit sayısı 36.000 görüldü. Hastanın PKG sonrası, hastane yatışında ve taburculuğunda Fraksiyone Olmayan Heparin (UFH) veya Düşük molekül ağırlıklı heparin (LMWH) almadığı göz önüne alındığında trombositopeninin heparine bağlı trombositopeni olmadığı düşünüldü. Nitekim hastanın yapılan periferik kan yaymalarında şistosit ve mikroanjiopatik hemoliz düşündüren diğer anormalliklere rastlanmadı (Şekil 2.) Hastada trombositopeniye neden olacak başka bir hastalık veya durum bulunmadığından hastanın tikagreloru kesildi ve klopidogrel 75 mg tb 1x1 başlandı. Hastanın hastaneye kabülünden, taburculuk sonrası kontrolüne kadar olan hematolojik parametreleri tablo 1’ de gösterilmiştir. Hastanın altı (6) gün sonra ölçülen trombosit sayısının (174.000) normale döndüğü görüldü

    A Stylistic Approach to Thomas Campion’s “There Is a Garden in Her Face”

    Literary works come into existence through authors’ use of language units in particular ways. Style is considered as the choice of linguistic characteristics from all the probabilities in language. Stylistics attempts to create an interaction of readers with the language of a literary text to clarify how a reader understands the text. This study examines how Thomas Campion manipulated basic linguistic features to form stylistic effects in order to produce meaning in "There Is a Garden in Her Face". The analysis involves lexical, semantic, grammatical (syntactic), graphological, and phonological (sound pattern) levels. It helps to clarify the context of the poem. The stylistic analysis shows that the poem is very carefully constructed. All three stanzas in the poem are grammatically parallel to each other and deal with the lady’s beauty whose face is compared to a garden of heavenly paradise where every kind of delicious fruit grows there. The unity of the poem is secured by the refrain describing a beautiful lady’s lips. The graphological deviation shows a system of capitalization to foreground important words such as “Roses” and “white Lilies” in the poem to represent love/passion, and innocence/purity. The phonetic parallelism reinforces the system of parallel meaning in terms of alliteration and assonance. The poem is based mostly on similes and metaphors to make the imagery of the flowers and fruit growing in a garden much more vivid. With this, the lady’s physical features are portrayed. The noun cherry is used with the adjective sacred which portrays that the lady’s lips have not been touched or kissed by anyone. The same line which is repeated at the end of each stanza foregrounds that this beautiful lady is unattainable unless if she says her lips are fully ripe to become most valuable. Here, female beauty signals the ideals of Elizabethan beauty: white skin, blushing cheeks, and red lips. This study shows how Campion has been able to manipulate language which is an integral part of a literary work. Campion has created changes through a systemic use of language to get his message across to readers. This study may help researchers understand how Campion used stylistic tools in his poem

    The future of restaurant labour: evidence from the U.S. restaurants

    This study contributes to the literature by delving into the perspectives of restaurant employees and managers in the USA about the future of restaurant labour. Through a qualitative research approach, we conducted 25 semi-structured interviews with employees and managers. The findings reveal the challenges of restaurant labour, including high turnover rates due to long hours and working during holidays and weekends, lack of work-life balance, and high levels of stress and pressure on employees. The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the future of restaurant labour are extracted as restaurant operations-related, management-related, employee-related, and patron-related impacts. Finally, this research highlights the requirements for the future of restaurant labour, which are requirements to enhance the quality of working conditions and decrease the turnover rate and requirements to sustain in the restaurant industry as an employee
