Frequency of Clinical Alarms in Intensive Care Units and Nurses' Sensitivity to Them: An Observational Study
Background All clinical alarms require nurses to respond
even if an intervention is not needed. Nurses are expected
to respond appropriately to each alarm and establish
priorities among their care practices accordingly. This
study was conducted to examine the number and types
of clinical device alarms used in intensive care units,
the duration of their activation, and nurses’ degree of
sensitivity to them.
Methods This observational study was conducted in 4
intensive care units in a university hospital in Turkey. A
total of 20 nurses (5 from each unit) were observed for
a total of 80 hours. The alarms were categorized as valid,
false, or technical.
Results During the study observation period, the mean
number of alarms sounding per hour per bed was 1.8.
A total of 144 alarms were recorded, of which 70.8%
were valid, 15.3% were false, and 13.9% were technical.
The mean duration of alarm activation was 8 minutes
for valid alarms, 14 minutes for false alarms, and 53
minutes for technical alarms.
Conclusions Nurses’ responses to alarms differ depending
on alarm type; for alarms that do not require an emergency
intervention, nurses tend to respond late or not at

SIRRÎ RÂHİLE HANIM’IN GAZELLERİNDE BİRLEŞİK FİİLLER
Sırrî Hanım 19. yüzyılda yaşamış önemli kadın şairlerden
biridir.
Sırrî Hanım’a ait olduğunu
bildiğimiz tek eseri Dîvân’ıdır. Bu divan “Millet
Kütüphanesi, Alî Emîrî, Manzum Eserler Bölümü, No:
fiilleri tespit etmektir. Makalenin birinci bölümünde Sırrî
Râhile Hanım ile ilgili kısaca bilgi verilmiş, ikinci bölümde
ise gazellerinden hareketle birleşik fiiller incelenmiştir.
Birleşik fiiller incelenirken öncelikle tespit edilen tüm
örnekler sıralanacak, daha sonra birleşik fiillerin hangi
isim unsuruyla (Arapça, Farsça ya da Türkçe)
kullanıldığına yer verilecektir. Böylece Sırrî Râhile
Hanım’ın gazellerinde birleşik fiil kullanımına ilişkin bir
veri ortaya konacaktır

Removal of the Anionic Dye Reactive Orange 16 by Chitosan/Tripolyphosphate/Mushroom
The green composite chitosan/tripolyphosphate/mushroom (C-TPP-PEE) was synthesized and evaluated for its adsorption performance of the dye Reactive Orange 16 (RO16), by using the batch technique. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and field emission scanning electron microscopy were employed to characterize the C-TPP-PEE. The maximum adsorption capacity of the RO16 dye for batch adsorption was determined as 736 mg g−1. The experimental kinetic data at equilibrium was found to be best fitted to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The results showed that the adsorption isotherm was best correlated to the Langmuir model. The thermodynamic data indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous, favorable, and endothermic
Investigation of oxidant/antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of apigenin on apoptosis in sepsis-induced rat lung
We suppose that apigenin may inhibit the cellular process of sepsis-induced lung injury, which is considered to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality, and may improve inflammation and oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential protective effect of apigenin in a rat model of polymicrobial sepsis. Eight groups consisting of a total of 64 female Wistar albino rats were used for this study. Pro-inflammatory (TNF-α, IL-1-β, IL-6) and anti-inflammatory (TGF-β, IL-10) cytokine levels were measured with the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique, oxidant/antioxidants parameters were measured using the spectrophotometric method and Bax and Caspase-3 immunohistochemical methods. TNF-α, TGF-β, IL-1β, and IL-6 levels significantly increased in the sepsis-induced group than in the control groups, while IL-10 levels decreased. Lipid peroxidase (LPO), an oxidative stress marker, increased, while the antioxidant defense parameters of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities, glutathione (GSH) levels decreased. Although Bax and Caspase-3 immunoreactivity and H score levels significantly increased in the sepsis group, significant decreases were found in the groups treated with apigenin. In conclusion, we are of the opinion that apigenin treatment improves lung injury by inhibiting oxidative stress and inflammatory cell damage
Effect of therapeutic touch on daytime sleepiness, stress and fatigue among students of nursing and midwifery: A randomized sham-controlled trial
Objectives: This study was conducted to assess the effect of therapeutic touch on stress, daytime sleepiness, sleep quality and fatigue among students of nursing and midwifery. Methods: 96 students were randomized into three groups: the therapeutic touch (TT) group, the sham therapeutic touch (STT) group, and the control group. In this randomized sham-controlled study, the TT group was subjected to therapeutic touch twice a week for four weeks with each session lasting 20 min. Results: When the TT group was compared to the STT and control groups following the intervention, the decrease in the levels of stress (p < 0.001), fatigue (p < 0.001) and daytime sleepiness (p < 0.001), and the increase in the sleep quality (p < 0.001) were found to be significant. Conclusion: It was found that TT, which is one form of complementary therapy, was relatively effective in decreasing the levels of stress, fatigue and daytime sleepiness, and in increasing the sleep quality of university students of nursing and midwifery. This study was funded by Mardin Artuklu University Of Scientific Research Projects (Project Number: MAU. A cat skeleton from the balatlar church excavation, sinop, Turkey
In the 2015 excavation season, an east–west oriented burial (2015-Grave-14) built with large dimension stone blocks was unearthed on the south edge of “Area IVi” at the Balatlar Church in Sinop, on the northeastern Black Sea coast of Turkey. In this grave, which is dated between the end of the 6th century AD and the first half of the 7th century AD, a human skeleton was found with the head to the west and a cat skeleton was carefully placed next to the right femur. This study on the burial and the cat skeleton within it shows that, compared to the Roman period, the status of cats reached a higher level during the Byzantine period. It was found that alongside of being a pet, the Balatlar cat was a young healthy female individual that instinctively hunted rodents and birds, given that the remains of a rat and a sparrow were found in the region of the abdominal cavity, corresponding with the stomach location in the living animal. The grave presents the most significant direct archaeological evidence of a pet–human bond recorded at any Byzantine site so far
First report of Macrophomina phaseolina causing charcoal rot on common sage (Salvia officinalis) in Turkey
Common sage (Salvia officinalis L.) is a perennial herb or sub-shrub native to the eastern Mediterranean. In July 2020, symptoms of chlorosis, wilting, and root rot appeared in 25% of two-year-old S. officinalis cv. Elif plants in two fields (N 36°53'42.457'', E 38°55'34.777''; N 36°53'27.236'', E 38°55'38.618'') in Şanlıurfa, Turkey
Positive versus negative contact and refugees' intentions to migrate: The mediating role of perceived discrimination, life satisfaction and identification with the host society among Syrian refugees in Turkey
Most research on refugee integration focuses on attitudes toward refugees among the members of the host society. Consequently, little is known on refugees' intentions to return home or migrate to another country. The present research investigates whether positive and negative contact with Turks are related to Syrian refugees' migration decisions via perceived discrimination, identification with the host society, and life satisfaction. Using a sample of Syrian adults (N = 285), we found that positive contact with Turks was associated with reduced return intentions via perceived discrimination and identification with the host society and with reduced intentions to migrate from Turkey to the Western countries via life satisfaction. Negative contact was only associated with increased return intentions via perceived discrimination. This study underscores the role of intergroup contact to better understand migration decisions of refugees and potential underlying mechanisms to explain this association. Defining the Current Position of the Gastronomy Field in Turkey
The present study aims to investigate and define the current position of the gastronomy field in Turkey. In order to achieve this, interviews were held with academics who are involved in the field of gastronomy. According to the analysis of the data, the nature of gastronomy both as a field and a concept is ‘multi-defined/comprehensive’, has a ‘multi-component’ structure, is ‘interdisciplinary’, ‘lacks a specific (unique) research question’, and ‘is accepted mainly as practical area’. It then became clear that there have been some developments, such as ‘gaining attention and developing as an educational field’, ‘the increase in the number of publications and opportunities to publish’ and ‘the formation of a scientific community’. Some deficiencies and necessities have also emerged that are related to issues as ‘theoretical background’, ‘education’, ‘research area’, ‘the number of publications and opportunities to publish’, ‘methods’ and ‘the ideal gastronomy academic profile’
