    Not AvailableFish consumption is a crucial component of a balanced and nutritious diet. The study identified the willingness to consume fish-based products and the socio-cultural factors affecting fresh fish consumption among the major tribes of Wayanad district in Kerala, South India. Sardine was the most consumed and favourite fish of the tribes, followed by mackerel. Variables like age and frequency of fresh fish consumption were found influencing the willingness of tribes for consumption of specific fish-based food products like fish soup, fish pappads, fish noodles, fish balls, and fish cutlets. The regression model revealed that factors including age, social media exposure, organizational trust, consumer trust, attitude of consumer, subjective norms, perceived behaviour control, and perceived risks of consuming fish affect the frequency of fresh fish consumption. The study indicates that the tribes of Wayanad prefer fresh fish over fish-based products and dried fish. The tribes expressed a willingness to consume fish-based products if provided free of cost, with fish soup, fish pappads, and fish noodles being the most preferred among a given set of options. The research highlights the need for policy interventions and extension efforts to promote fresh fish consumption, especially among tribal communities, to alleviate malnutrition.Not Availabl

    All India Network Project on HPVA of NRGNatural gums are among the important non timber forest products and are produced from a wide range of plants. Karaya gum is the dried exudate produced from Sterculia urens tree, which is an important raw material for textile, cosmetic, food, pharmaceutical and other industries. Gums are produced by exposing the gum ducts on the stem of the trees by making suitable incision. The existing tapping technique and devices are traditional, location specific, less efficient and time consuming. Tools and equipments developed for karaya gum tapping may be used to enhance productivity of the gum tappers, reduction in time of operation, drudgery and manpower requirement with increase in karaya gum production. Similarly, improved tapping technique and tools will minimize injury to the trees and help in sustainable production of gums with conservation of natural population of karaya trees. Increase in sustainable livelihood of rural and tribal people might be possible with adoption of scientific methods of karaya gum tapping to get remunerative prices of the products. The gum production systems need to be improved for efficient utilization of natural resource with higher yield and reduced manpower requirement. There is need to follow scientific methods of tapping and collection of the karaya gums in order to get remunerative prices of the products. Battery operated tools/equipments may be given preference in karaya gum tapping work especially in remote areas where electricity is a problem so that productivity of the person involved in karaya gum tapping work may be enhanced.Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delh

    Not AvailableA study was conducted to determine the source and sink relationship in multicapsule genotypes of sesame. Thirty-six multicapsule genotypes along with two single capsule genotypes as checks were used in this study. Data on source characters such as number of leaf axils, leaf area, SPAD chlorophyll, photosynthetic rate, plant height, stem girth was recorded at capsule formation stage. Similarly, data on sink related characters such as number of flowers per axil, number of capsules per axil, capsule length, breadth, seed weight, seed yield per plant, and oil content were recorded. There were 1 to 3 capsules per axil, genotypes, SC-500-1, PI-154298, JCS-1020, exhibited 3 capsules at every axil. The results indicated the source characters such as number of leaf axils per plant was significantly positively correlated with seed yield per plant, leaf area was significantly positively correlated with number of flowers per main stem, total capsule number per main stem and seed weight of the right capsule in the bunch of the capsules. SPAD chlorophyll was positively associated with, number of flowers per axil, number of capsules per axil and seed yield per plant. Photosynthetic rate was significantly associated with total number of capsules per main stem of the plant, oil content and test weight. There were 7 principal components which explained 80 of the variation presents in the genotypes. Characters such as number of flowers per axil, number of leaf axils per plant, number of capsules per axil in the main stem and capsule length, weight, seed weight of left and right capsules contributed for the variation. Variation in these characters distributed the genotypes across the axis in the PCA biplot. Genotypes such as SC-500, PI-154298 exhibited high capsules number per plant, capsules per axil, capsule length and capsule seed weight. This study indicated that the genotypes showing more than 1 capsules per axil have high leaf area, stem girth.     Not AvailableA major goal of survey sampling is finite population inference. In recent years, large-scale survey programs have encountered many practical challenges which include higher data collection cost, increasing non-response rate, increasing demand for disaggregated level statistics and desire for timely estimates. Data integration is a new field of research that provides a timely solution to these above-mentioned challenges by integrating data from multiple surveys. Now, it is possible to develop a framework that can efficiently combine information from several surveys to obtain more precise estimates of population parameters. In many surveys, parameters of interest are often spatial in nature, which means, the relationship between the study variable and covariates varies across all locations in the study area and this situation is referred as spatial non-stationarity. Hence, there is a need of a sampling methodology that can efficiently tackle this spatial non-stationarity problem and can be able to integrate this spatially referenced data to get more detailed information. In this study, a Geographically Weighted Spatially Integrated (GWSI) estimator of finite population total was developed by integrating data from two independent surveys using spatial information. The statistical properties of the proposed spatially integrated estimator were then evaluated empirically through a spatial simulation study. Three different spatial populations were generated having high spatial autocorrelation. The proposed spatially integrated estimator performed better than usual design based estimator under all three populations. Furthermore, a Spatial Proportionate Bootstrap (SPB) method was developed for variance estimation of the proposed spatially integrated estimator.Not Availabl

    Not AvailableEvaluation and validation of 358 Indian-origin and exotic inbred lines of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) was done over two years to identify trait-specific inbreds with desirable agronomical features for genetic improvement. The analysis of variance exhibited significant differences among the genotypes for most of the agronomic traits studied, which favor selection. Positive correlations were recorded among the various characters in the improvement of seed yield, particularly for plant height, head diameter, and 100 seed weight. Cluster analysis grouped 163 inbreds under Cluster V, which included genotypes with medium maturity, high oil content and good yielding ability. The clustering pattern indicated the association between geographic diversity and genetic diversity. The first principal component accounted for 75% of the total variation in the population. The most important trait that contributed more to the variation in PC1 was plant height (0.989), followed by the number of leaves per plant (0.113). The second principal component accounted for 87% of the total variation and was positively associated with days to 50% flowering (0.674) and days to maturity (0.654), whereas it was negatively associated with seed yield per plant (-0312). Several trait-specific inbred lines were identified using multivariate analysis that may serve as potential breeding material/parental lines for effective utilization in the heterosis breeding programme for developing agronomically superior heterotic sunflower hybrids.Not Availabl
