Spanning Books and Embodiment (Phenomenology)
The item includes: 1) a slide set; 2) a theory assemblage conceived as a data-set [a flyer set #01-#06, 1HEX¨ ].[WALKABOUT: click file NAVIGATION EXHIBIT]
This study explores the use of chance-methods in reading, and what the affordances of embodiment they can potentially reveal, through the design and use of an interactive reading-design (and more broadly for reception). The method explored is not effort saving, but supports a visual learning style. In combining chance methods with the logic of two rule-sets—Brian ENO’s and Peter SCHMIDT’s Oblique Strategy Cards, and Norman POTTER’s Modern Literalist Precepts—are used to triangulate a reading of Sarah DAVIES Hackerspaces (2017)l. This book was selected for its relevance to the workshop spaces at KHiO. A third rule-set—Arne NÆSS’ logic of precisation—to develop and design a possibility to consider experience-based propositions in the ecologic terms of practice (i.e., the common of human practice). A slide set of 60 features a documentation of the experience (shared here). While the flyer-set proposes to theorise with and on the experiment
Training Nature: Multi-plate relief block hand-printing processes in European manufacturing of wallcoverings
Primary data gathered from three historically renowned European manufacturers will inform my studio-led research; Training Nature, the transformation process of reduction into intransitive tessellating multi-plate relief block printing. What historical multi-plate relief block hand-printing processes continue in manufacturing today? How have these processes from the 18th Century been modified, subsumed and transformed by technology in the 21st Century at; Zuber (France), Anstey (UK) and Svenskt Tenn (Sweden)? How will knowledge gained in the field inform my studio-led artistic development

Tvergastein HEX

Merkur Grafisk ASThis book is an anthology of essays, developed by frist year MA students in design, at KHiO: it designed and partly manufactured by Tiril Haug Johne & Victoria Ydstie Meyer. They were joined in the Editorial Board by Kristiina Veiberg and Pinelopi Spanou. The book features the students’ frist written output from a course-structure in experimental theory-development, basen on loggbooks kept & developed in the same course. The book therefore also includes the written feedback on the essays, which is parallel to the written feedback on their logbooks that initiates the process. The book’s tactile expression in the choice of paper, format and blue textile shirting, responds directly to the conditions during the Corona shut-down when everyone was working separately. The context of the anthology—its container-story—is domestic. Reflecting the working conditions at this time. The concept is inspired by Boccaccio’s Decameron.KHiO, the design dpt.publishedVersio
Cultural Technologies
Flyer-set: 6 numbered flyers (1 HEX), organised in 6 modular steps: 1) attempt; 2) try again; 3) do something else; 4) return; 5) unlearn; 6) cross over.[WALKABOUT: click file NAVIGATION EXHIBIT]
The flyer series series queries the aspects in which design can offer research qualities relevant to foundational questioning in the art-field, beyond the discursive boundaries of a discipline. It proposes a critical view of the limiting scope of ‘foundation theory’ as a general idea of what theory should do (and what theory is about). Experimental theory development is queried as an alternative to scope foundations, when the foundations are grounded in practices. The techno-cultural device is a practical concept for supporting experimental theory development, in the edgeland between digital interfaces and circulating projects & people. The concept of cultural technology I take from experimental archaeology, and exploit the distinction between this area of investigation from media archaeology (where inquiries tend to be restricted to the electronic age, or cultural repertoire). The Device series is intended for the enrichment the designs that we can foresee in what here is called the Edgeland (from lack of a better term): the contact zone between viral contamination and digital connection. Designs for teeming spaces where walls are defined and pushed; featuring the Learning Theatre (inspired by Cedric Price’s and Joan Littlewood’s shareware between architecture and AGITPROP, called the Fun Palace [transposed in the Pompidou Centre])
