Researching public art and public space: Editorial
Get PDFThis special issue is devoted to research on the changing paradigms of public art, and of public spaces. Today all art can be characterized as public since it is mediated via relational networks. The shift of paradigm from modernist art to contemporary art coincides with this shift of paradigm – from consumption to communication – in the sense that advanced art practices had already absorbed the change from individual mediation to relational networks. In the communication network of relations, artists and works are constitutive elements. Without the works and the artists, the relational network does not exist, and vice versa: Without the network of relations, neither artists nor works are made visible. This constitutive reciprocity of relations is decisive both for theorists doing research on public art and art in public spaces, as well as for artists who are doing research in public spaces.Researching public art and public space: EditorialacceptedVersio

Narrative Tensions in Strained Elite Junior Performers' Experiences of Becoming Elite Performers
No full textTidsskrift, Peer reviewedContextualized within narrative theory and the field of talent identification and development systems (TIDS), this interview study examined strained junior elite performers’ experiences of becoming elite performers while participating in prestigious national TIDS. The study explored how junior elite performers perceive and negotiate their personal narratives of becoming within a cultural master narrative of being. The focus is on how the quality of person-environment interaction, characterized by narrative alignment or tensions, relates to perceptions of identity, agency, physical, and mental health. We purposefully recruited eight participants (Mage = 17.31, SD = 0.90) from a previously published study, who reported experiencing sub-optimal psychological functioning compared with their peers, to explore narrative tensions in their storylines. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and examined using narrative analysis. We identified “the performance narrative” as the dominating cultural narrative within the TIDS and three distinct personal narratives of negotiation with unique characteristics: obsessive and externally driven alignment—‘Striving to stay at the top of the game’; tensions—‘Just hanging in there’; and disruption from alignment—‘When the going gets tough’. The results indicated that tensions and lack of alignment between the dominating cultural narrative and the individual narrative seem to increase the risk of experiencing identity challenges, sub-optimal functioning, and aspects of ill-being. The study offers critical reflections on the dominating performance narrative within TIDS, and additionally suggests an alternative athlete-centered and more holistic approach that combines both personal and performance development.publishedVersio

This project creates the means for manifesting Bateson’s double format. The project creates a framework so that artists and audiences of differing backgrounds can share communally generated narratives. Moreover, the structure of these narratives will invite audiences into digitally generated reflective spaces, where over a space of time, the audience can; reflect upon, comment, share resources, ideas and references in order to create a democratic community of reflection. The expected results will be achieved by the designing and structuring of a poetic data-bases which can be shared via website platforms. The narratives for this project are extended versions of those generated during the MONO.DIO.POLI.META.LOGUES project

Get PDFResearch Lab startet som et pilotprosjekt, der intensjonen var å utvikle et forskningsbasert undervisningsopplegg rundt aktuell tematikk knyttet til Artistic Research. Målgruppen var både BA og MA, samt ansatte som ønsket å være med på hele eller deler av programmet. Grunnet Corona reguleringer, ble undervisningen gjennomført både på Zoom og i klasserom parallellt. Det var også stor interesse for deltakelse, slik at mulighet for å delta via Zoom gjorde at de som ønsket det kunne delta. De fleste som deltok var BA studenter. _________ Beskrivelse Research Lab- Fra Canvas emnerom ”Denne labben gir en helt grunnleggende innføring i Artistic Research for studenter (og ansatte) som ser for seg at de senere kan være interessert i å arbeide med Artistic Research, søke om støtte til et research prosjekt, søke på en PhD i fremtiden, eller ønsker å jobbe mer metodisk i egen praksis. Programmet vil være i form av forelesninger, presentasjoner, gruppediskusjoner, tekstlesning, skrivning og individuell veiledning. Hver enkelt student jobber på egenhånd med definisjon av et eget- tenkt prosjekt knyttet til egen kunstnerisk praksis.Vi ser på temaer som metodikk, etikk, hva er artistic reserach, muntlig presentasjon, ulike aspekter av refleksjonsarbeid.
