And from here pursues the gross-fertilisation of group-theory in art and science. Featuring the idea of disordered systems (that comes from structural geology) and the keeping of logbooks in field studies. The flyer-set uses the same knowledge basis as Rosalind Krauss in the essay Sculpture in the Expanded Field, i.a. an article on structure in mathematics by Marc Barbut in Les Temps Modernes. The argument is merological: i.e., how we can study part-whole relations in terms of restricted, principal and expanded sets

The three-score work of covering a field (damage/repair), programming a pattern (re-pair) and the two remediating each other. Parcours before discours.
The parcours runs through Bracha Ettinger’s contribution to the SALTWATER Istanbul biennale in 2015, a dance performance (Displaced Shadows, KHiO), 3 operatic essays on Sophocles’ Antigone (Triologue, KHiO) and reflections on displacement from 3 different vantage points—a post-collapse scenario (KHiO)— in the context of the C19 pandemic.
What is attempted—through the passage points of a parcours—is to depict KHiO at the brink between two social phases: before and after vaccination. Artworks are here scoped as ‘labours of transition’. The transition from the liminal space of the lockdown (some performances video-transmitted, others are live) to what may turn out to present itself as yet another liminal phase.
The set aims to learn by doing: what is the impact of record and replay, under such circumstances, and what does it represent as a candidate form of action? The agency of lateral drift, and moving sideways like a crab, where ascending/descending existentially may be implied, but never immediately revealed. Implied through implication.
Indeed, what qualities of repair can be envisaged by re-pairing vantage points that at first appear to be opposed, if not outrightly incompatible? Can we engage differently with opinion, fame, scale, impact, wounds, healing? With the unsettling, uncanny, and anachronistic; in the afterlife (Nachleben) of Covid19?
Bracha Ettinger’s ‘saltwater’ passageway from wit(h)nessing to witnessing: an attempt to join the works we execute and the situation we have designed (and have caused in more mediate ways), in a fashion that may be illuminated and raised through the sideways gait of the crab. Parcours…draf

Get PDFSeminarbidrag til seriens Snø- og Isdekte alper ved Nasjonalbiblioteket. Bidraget tar for seg sammenhengen mellom tegning og situasjon, der bla. høydeforskjeller spiller en rolle. Det er tre variabler ved høydeperspektiv: dalen som synker, fjellene som reiser seg og synspunktet. Altså ikke to, men tre variabler.
Synspunktet varierer med høye og lave situasjoner under turforhold, tilbakeblikkets synsramme og kontaktmetaforer, som begge betinger hva vi kan vite.
Når miljøforholdene endrer seg vil også betingelsene for hva vi kan vite endre seg. Dagens natur setter slik sett andre betingelser enn de som rådde på B.M. Keilhau & C.P.B.Boeck sin tid: to unge forskere som, sammen med reinjegeren Ole Urden, la ut på en tur fra Mugnatind i Valdres til Falketind (i det som senere ble hetende Jotunheimen).
Spørsmålet er om den teknologiske utviklingen kan kompensere for miljøendringer, eller om det går i glemmeboken, pga. endringer i en situasjon som vi er en del av. Kanskje øvelser av den typen som her er gjort med anskuelsen av en fjelltur i 1820 kan hjelpe på. Intensjonen er å bidra til utviklingen av miljøhumaniora: praktisk, teoretisk og metodisk.
Versjonen som er lagt ut er noe utvidet i forhold til den som ble levert på Nasjonalbiblioteket under dagsseminaret 24.03.21: a) lysbildene omfatter et appendiks; b) manuskriptet omfatter et etterord.

He was translated into French by Michel Foucault. His ideas are adjacent to Maurice Merleau Ponty’s. His fame linked to his care of Aby Warburg, during his mental breakdown, when he was a patient at the Bellevue asylum in Kreuzlingen (Northern Switzerland) for a period of 3 yeas (1921-1924). Aby Warburg was discharge after he was able to give lecture of what had caused him turmoil.
In this series the concepts of Umgebung and Umwelt—which we also know from Agamben’s discussion of Heidegger and von Uexküll—and what they might entail in how we conceive our daily lives and the world we live, in Bruno Latour’s scope of the terrestrial. It is intended as a query on Ludwig Binswanger using the approach of a case study. Fotograf: Øystein ThorvaldsenI et ekstraordinært år, der digitale løsninger og sosial distanse har preget våre liv, er Alumni/ae-utstillingen den fysiske manifestasjonen av studentgruppen som ble uteksaminert fra Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo i 2020.
Alumni/ae-utstillingen er ikke kun i dens form unik, men det er også første gang alle de ulike fagretningene ved KHiO samles inn under en felles utstilling, der likheter, ulikheter, og årets ekstraordinære tiltak samler de sammen til en gruppe for å vise et mangfold av uttrykk og tematikker.
Alumni/ae-festivalen vil på så måte være et unikt innblikk inn i over 50 ulike kunstnerskap, men også da et tidsvitne over 2020, der de presenterte arbeidene ikke nødvendigvis direkte omtaler dette, er det alle verk som har måtte blitt produsert under et eller annet form for hinder; det være seg sosial distansering, fraværet av verksted og arbeidsrom, eller sykdom. Alumni/ae-utstillingen er derfor ikke en avgangsutstilling i sin tradisjonelle form, men heller en samling, en mønstring, av ulike kunstnere hvis fellesnevner er at de skaper i utrygge tider med ubestemte tidsmønstre.

No full textFlyer set launched as tiles based on the following elementary description: #01 attempt; #02 try again; #03 do something else; #04 return; #05 Unlearn; #06 Crossover.#01-#06 Tiling, is a flyer-series devoted to the development of an idea of process—and form of knowledge—adequate to theorise field knowledge: i.e., the aspects of knowledge that is linked to fieldwork, survey, documentation of process in documenting.
This kind of knowledge basis is not supported by proof, demonstration and argument, but on laying out puzzle-pieces (Bruno Latour). The series should be of interest to artistic research, environmental humanities, science technology studies, and to foundational research to develop anthroponomy as a research direction.
The series also should be of interest to professionals (and amateurs) interested in the relation between form, material and substance and the role these play in investigations that do not rely on function in the development of affordances in design.
If the approach appears to be rigorous it is because it seeks to establish a foundation of robustness in unwieldy discussions engaged by e.g. Anna Tsing, Bruno Latour, Donna Haraway and Rem Koolhaas.
The series should be of interest along readers and practitioners with an interest in approaches for to development, research and managing that are based on partnering with the environment and human entourage (immersively, positioned and situated).

Get PDFDette forskningsprosjektet var et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo, Dronning Sonja Internasjonale Musikkonkurranse, National Opera Studio i London, Barratt Due, Musikkteater-høyskolen ved Høyskolen Kristiania og Universitetet i Agder.
Bakgrunn og kontekst:
Våren 2022 søkte de tre sceniske avdelingene på KHiO om å bli et SFU-senter. Målsetning var å etablere et kompetansesenter som skulle produsere kunnskap og anvendt forskning for å styrke studenters profesjonelle potensial. Prosjektet tok delvis utgangspunkt i Avdeling Dans sitt prosjekt REDE. Å være scenekunstner innebærer å være åpenstilt i møte med dypere lag av egne og andres følelser og impulser, en åpenhet som skaper en sårbarhet som kan være en psykologisk belastning, særlig for unge mennesker. Dette er en utfordring på alle de tre sceniske avdelingene

Mereology of iteration

As a point of departure, two cases of work are compared: Bjørn Blikstad’s Peacock Cabinet (furniture) and Georgiana Dobre’s work (choreography): We go around in circles at night, and are devoured by fire. The mereological study, in this case, makes a point of how repetition/multiplication yields information about the whole (Simondon). A mobile X-factor that yields readability to the whole.
The study is done under the constraints of the C19 lockdown, and attention to these conditions are given in order to heed the injunction (Donna Haraway) to position and situate the conditions of reception (the works above) and their theorising in the flyer set. In the perspective of Lacan’s sinthome: of living with trauma.
What are the lessons learned for the future: how to secure a stable learning outcome from the pandemic into the new normal? A disciplinary realm is sought between anthropology and anthropometrics as a field of artistic research AND scientific study: anthroponomy.
Iteration in aggregregates are tangiential to studies in mathematics/logic of permutation. This is queried as an approach to the interception of weak signals and background noise in wholes, that are not solved with the tight fit of symbolism, but yield information about the whole (X-factor).
This formal aspect feeds forward to the substantial domain of ritual. And suggests an idea of what rituals do (and symbols don’t). The shift of focus from symbolism to ritual, brings up the topic of the body as a sign, and the larger scope of humanity. And the relation, enfolded and unfolded, between the body and writing (cf, Berber writing Tifinagh).
The flyer series ends up asking the question of whether we may call for a design practice in an expanded field of knowing through making, where the ontological turn in philosophy, the epistemic turn in art (artistic research) and the feminist turn in STS (Science Technology Studies) may be re-bundled.
