Acts from a workshop held at Utstein Kloster, Rogaland, 2.-4. november 1979 (NAM-Forskningsseminar nr. 1)It is assumed that it is possible in the material from the Stone Age sites to recognize the results of the process of teaching children how to survive. Analysing "the refuse material" and "poorly" made artifacts from camp sites on such a basis will definitely be rewarding

The correlation between the shape of grave monuments and sex in the iron age, based on material from Østfold and Vestfold

A typological analysis of burial customs based on the idea that there is a difference in layout of the graves according to analysis of the grave goods; fundamental in the analysis is that men's graves can be distinguished from the women's graves based on the presence of weapons as opposed to many buckles, spindlewhorles or pearls and further associated artifacts

Acts from a workshop held at Utstein Kloster, Rogaland, 2.-4. november 1979 (NAM-Forskningsseminar nr. 1)In order to develop working methods to distinguish between individuals in burial material, the author establishes a "pyramid of death". This theoretical model is then applied in a discussion of the usefulness of burial data from the Iron Age cemetary on Kvassheim, Jæren, to give information of past life patterns

This report was prepared under a contract from "the steering committee for evaluating cultural remains in rivers temporarily protected from hydroelectric development". Under this program 60 watercourses have been surveyed to establish which should be permanently protected. This report gives a survey of sites of cultural interest within the 110 km2 watershed of the Vikedal river. Their potential for further research was to be emphasised together with their potential capacity to convey understanding - and to evoke an experience of history for the public. Within this framework, no attempt has been made to evaluate possible damages due to specific hydropower schemes. The Vikedal river lies within the Vindafjord community in Rogaland. It drops some 800 meters from source to fjord. 75 sites with a total of 135 separate ancient remains are known. These are as follows: 48 settlements, 33 burials, 21 remnants of agriculture, 2 remnants of roads, 24 burial-related artefacts, 7 other. Most of the sites are in the still permanently settled area, but some of them are in the more remote hills far from the present day farms. All of the sites can be related to an agricultural economy. The river basin is well defined and small enough to be convenient for studies of geographical expansion, local economy and demography

Gjengitt med tillatelse fra Norsk Botanisk Forening.Tveitaneset, an exposed point in Nedstrandsfjorden, Rogaland county, was in 1977 protected by law due to the occurrence of oceanic evergreen forests typical of the district. The bedrock consists of mica schist, but without especially high calcium content; the flora is therefore dominated by mainly oligotrophic species. The climate is humid, with a yearly precipitation of about 1751 mm and a favourable combination of high summer temperatures (slightly above 16 oC in July) and mild winters (January mean temp. above 0oC). Along a dry-wet gradient, plant communities either belonging to or closely related to the following pine forests are found. Cladonio-Pinetum (and a moss-dominated variety), Barbilophozio-Pinetum, Vaccinio-Pinetum, and Vaccinio uliginosi-Pinetum. The community names refer to Kielland-Lund (1973). Lack of differential species makes an exact phytosociological determination difficult. This is a problem often met with in Western Norway. The seashore mainly consists of exposed cliffs, with an interesting transition through boulder and stone shores to a small sand beach in the bay east of Tveitaneset. Amongst the total of 91 species of vascular plants found are Circaea intermedia, Goodyero repens, and several oceanic or suboceanic species llke Ilex aquifolium, Blechnum spicant, Erica tetralix, Carex binenis, Narthecium ossifragum
