Perceptions About Generative AI and ChatGPT Use by Faculty and College Students
The published version of this article can be found at: https://journals.psu.edu/td/article/view/1825
Since November 2022, ChatGPT has created a stir on college campuses. November, 2022. Many colleges and universities have taken a proactive approach and updated academic integrity policies or even outright banned the use of ChatGPT (Clercq, 2023; Mearian, 2023; Schwartz, 2023). As this new technology continues to evolve and expand, colleges and universities are grappling with the opportunities and challenges of using such tools. Very little literature exists on student and faculty perceptions of AI use in higher education, particularly related to generative AI tools. The present study aims to fill this gap and offer perceptions from both students and faculty from a large research university in the mid-Atlantic. Survey participants consisted of 286 faculty and 380 students across multiple campuses. Participants completed an online questionnaire that included open-ended responses, scaled items, and finite questions. Overall, the reported use of ChatGPT technology is infrequent, though most respondents feel its use is inevitable in higher education. We find faculty and students are uncertain but familiar with generative AI tools and ChatGPT. Institutions interested in developing policies around using ChatGPT on campus may benefit from building trust in generative AI, for both faculty and students. Concerns with academic integrity are prevalent with faculty and students agreeing ChatGPT violate

Adaptasi Apron Movement Control terhadap Dinamika Pergerakan Pesawat di Bandar Udara Internasional Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Balikpapan
This study aims to determine the apron movement simulation at Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Balikpapan International Airport in August 2024 and to understand how the Apron Movement Control (AMC) unit adapts to aircraft movement dynamics. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies, then analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that AMC has implemented a series of adaptation strategies, including increased real-time monitoring, SOP adjustments, and intensive coordination with related units. Simulation plays an important role in predicting aircraft movement scenarios and training officers in dealing with emergency situations. The use of taxiways as temporary parking areas is a strategic solution to overcome parking space limitations

In the world of aviation, safety and smooth flight traffic are very important factors. Violations that occur in the apron area are the responsibility of AMC officers in carrying out supervisory and regulatory duties to ensure that all activities run safety and smoothly. So this study aims to observe how the role of AMC in carrying out supervisory and regulatory duties in the apron area. This study uses qualitative research using primary data and secondary data. Data collection techniques are in the form of interviews, observation and documentation. The data analysis technique used in triangulation of techniques and sourches. This study lasted for 1 month from March 1 to March 30, 2025 which was conducted at Yogyakarta Ingternastional Airport. The results of this study indicated that AMC officers have an important role in carrying out supervisory and regulatory duties in flight traffic in order to maintain flight safety and smoothness. There were obstacle found by AMC officers in the work area were able to handle them well because they were equippped with good competence and professional work levels
Dinamika Pendapatan Tiket Penerbangan Domestik PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk
The main revenue of service companies engaged in the aviation industry comes from the sale of passenger tickets, and PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk is no exception. However, there was a drastic decline when the covid-19 pandemic hit which limited the mobility of people. This study is directed at comparing pre- and post-pandemic conditions, which will then lead to an analysis of domestic flight ticket revenue factors. A quantitative approach is used to dissect the problem with paired sample t-test and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The initial test uses secondary data in the form of pre- and post-pandemic airplane ticket revenues for each of the 15 periods (months). Meanwhile, the second test used primary data collected through distributing questionnaires to 60 respondents who use economy aircraft type B737-800NG on domestic routes. The results showed a significant difference in pre and post-pandemic airplane ticket revenues. After an in-depth study, of the six proposed determinant variables, two of them can be considered as determinants, namely maintenance as factor 1 and price as factor 2. The remaining four variables, namely punctuality, audio video services, aircraft cleanliness and seat comfort, are categorized in factor 1. These findings support the importance of airline marketing strategies, especially setting competitive ticket prices and excellent service to its users. The more affordable the price offered plus the better the service. The practical implications for management are (1) operational efficiency such as aircraft fleet optimization or digitization and automation of business processes, (2) product and service segmentation by offering tiered services and ticket bundling, (3) utilization of technology by opening application-based services and loyalty programs, (4) strategic partnerships, especially hotels, restaurants and land transportation, and (5) focus on customer satisfaction

The presence of fear: how subjective fear, not physiological arousal, shapes the experience of presence
When we become engrossed in novels, films, games, or even our own wandering thoughts, we can feel present in a reality distinct from the real world. Although this subjective sense of presence is, presumably, a ubiquitous aspect of everyday conscious experience, the mechanisms that produce it are not known. Correlational studies conducted in virtual reality have shown that we feel more present when we are afraid, motivating claims that physiological arousal contributes to presence; however, such causal claims have yet to be evaluated. Here, we report two experiments that test the causal role of subjective and physiological components of fear in generating presence. In Study 1, we validated a virtual reality simulation capable of inducing fear. We asked participants to rate their emotions while they walked across a wooden plank that appeared to be suspended high above a city street; at the same time, we recorded heart rate and skin conductance levels. Height exposure increased ratings of both fear and presence, and also increased physiological arousal. Although presence and fear ratings were positively correlated during height exposure, presence and physiological measures were unrelated. In Study 2, we manipulated whether the plank appeared to be at height, or on the ground. Using a mediational approach, we found that the relationship between height exposure and presence on the plank was fully mediated by self-reported fear, and not by physiological arousal. Findings point to the importance of subjective emotional experience in informing the feeling that we are physically situated within a reality
State versus trait conceptualizations of parental monitoring: a formulation and review
We propose and evaluate two competing conceptualizations of parental monitoring of youths’ activities—a trait conceptualization and a state conceptualization. In a trait conceptualization, the level of monitoring is largely stable over time within families and youth behavior at any given moment is affected by the overall level of monitoring over a long period (e.g., past few months, past year). In a state conceptualization, the level of monitoring varies substantially from moment-to-moment and youth behavior at any given moment is affected by the current, acute level of monitoring. The trait and state conceptualizations have contrasting implications for designing research, identifying causal mechanisms, intervening with families to improve monitoring, and anticipating how youth will respond to temporary changes in the level of monitoring. Reviewing the literature, we find that most prior research has implicitly adopted the trait conceptualization despite there being little theoretical analysis or empirical evidence to justify the choice of one conceptualization over the other. No study has reported on the day-to-day stability of monitoring, though a handful have reported low day-to-day stability for closely related constructs (e.g., parental knowledge). Too few studies have tested shorter-term or acute effects of monitoring to make strong conclusions about the timescale of effects, though the extant evidence does not support the idea that monitoring measured today affects youth outcomes measured 6-12 months into the future. We conclude that the extent to which monitoring is best conceptualized as a trait or state remains an important open question
Too much or not enough of a good thing? Reconciling differing perspectives on the optimal dose of mindfulness meditation and advancing a dose-response research agenda
Mindfulness meditation is now practiced broadly in both religious and secular contexts, with numerous studies indicating potential benefits across a range of psychosocial domains. However, despite significant research effort, we still know little about dose-response effects – how frequently or for how long
individuals might need to practice mindfulness meditation to achieve certain practice goals. Increasingly, recommended amounts of practice are becoming shorter while the impact of this reduction on outcomes in unclear. We review and critically appraise the state of knowledge about dose-response effects drawn from empirical investigations, traditional sources, and trends in contemporary teaching
and practice. We argue that limitations inherent to the range of doses and analytic approaches used in previous studies reduce our ability to inform the dose-response question. We propose a practical research agenda that prioritizes the question of dose-response, incorporating design features that are optimized
specifically to understanding the dose-response relationship and how it might vary between outcomes and individuals. Prioritizing the dose-response agenda will allow us to reconcile differences between knowledge sources and enable us to optimize mindfulness offerings based on the individual, their goals, and the context in which they practice
The Transaction Test: an experimental method for assessing online interfaces
This article introduces the transaction test, a novel experimental method to detect whether a website customization can be deceptive. The method measures changes in choice inconsistency with respect to a plain design. In a highly powered online experiment, we assess three dark patterns and one transparency-based remedy in decisions involving data protection. Compared to a placebo condition, dark patterns increase the likelihood of choice inconsistency by an effect in the range of 6-12 percentage points, depending on experimental conditions. The transparency-based remedy fails to mitigate these effects. A second study implements the transaction test in a market experiment. Here, one of the treatments from the online experiment increases inconsistency by 42 pp. Two additional deceptive designs are tested, respectively favoring consistent and inconsistent choices. The Dark Pattern version raises inconsistency by 18 pp while the Bright Pattern reduces it by 15 pp. Our findings demonstrate how the transaction test, by providing an empirical assessment of the legal concept of unfairness, offers a flexible tool for the regulation of dark patterns and other commercial practices
