Soundtrack Concerts: Evolution of the phenomenon, trends and growth opportunities

    No full text
This paper examines the emerging trend of soundtrack music concerts, a genre closely related to classical music, and their potential role in attracting new audiences to symphonic performances. By analyzing a comprehensive database of global soundtrack concerts, we aim to understand where these concerts are most prevalent and identify the key players in this burgeoning field. Our study also investigates audience demographics, behaviors, and preferences, comparing soundtrack concertgoers with traditional classical music audiences. We explore the impact of different concert formats and the role of technological enhancements in audience engagement. Additionally, the integration of video game scores into soundtrack concerts is analyzed to determine its influence on audience demographics and engagement. Through a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative insights, this paper provides a detailed understanding of the current trends and future potential of soundtrack music concerts in the classical music industry.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-global-entertainment-business/1388/thumbnail.jp

From The Bottom Up: A Personal Global Jazz Bass Method

    No full text
The project, “From the Bottom Up – A Personal Global Jazz Bass Method” focuses on the music of ensembles that do not feature a chordal instrument (such as a piano or guitar) in the rhythm section and has three different components. The first component is to interview bassists Linda May Han Oh, Ben Street, Marion Hayden and John Patitucci about their experience as bassists in these settings. The second aspect is to compose music for a quartet featuring the instrumentation of Trumpet, Trombone, Double Bass and Drum Kit to explore the findings of the interviews. Third is to create a series of etudes to explore the harmonic language of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute for bass players of the institute. The findings of the interviews and resulting transcriptions are that bass players use the same harmonic language in ensembles featuring or lacking a chordal instrument, yet they have heightened interaction with the soloists in those ensembles. The spontaneous counterpoint created between bassists and soloists is also more prominent due to a lack of a chordal instrument. The compositions for the project featured an emphasis on interaction, counterpoint and the use of space. Etudes explore harmonic motion by major and minor thirds, traditional walking bass lines used in nontraditional sequences, and brightening and lightening tetrachords.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-global-jazz/1163/thumbnail.jp

    Coretta the Musical

    No full text
The musical Coretta is a story that’s meant to shine a light on the woman behind Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King. Coretta was a determined woman who had her own dreams of singing center stage in the classical world. Then, she met Martin, and the spotlight shifted to him, forcing her and her dream backwards into the shadow of another. With this story, we aim to educate and share the importance of what Coretta did, what she gave up, and how it changed the way she had envisioned her life going. The idea for Coretta the musical was formed in October 2023, and has morphed into a story that we believe everybody can relate to. Whether faced with struggles of racism, sexism, marriage, peer pressure or even in school competitions, we have all experienced it in some shape or form, and we can all find our spotlight, just like Coretta.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-cmat/1001/thumbnail.jp
