In The Safety of My Room
No full text“In The Safety of My Room” is a sad girl bedroom pop EP based on feelings of heartbreak, loneliness, and growing up. It is emotional, relatable, and its target audience is young women in their teens and twenties. This EP was written and produced by Cass almost completely in her bedroom. Sonically, the sound includes a mix of organic instruments such as stripped down guitars and pianos, but also incorporates electronic elements as well as textures and ambiences. With creative uses of echo, reverb, and space, the EP distinguishes itself against others with its own unique soundscape. Throughout her songs, Cass experiments with vocals by chopping them up, reversing them, adding reverb and delay, pitching them up and down, and finding areas in the song where they may fit and add creativity. The work consists of five songs: Weapons, Blame Me, When You Lie, Iridescent, and Too Late. No full textTaking fragments of a record and repurposing it as a new sound is a process known as sampling. It has become a common and significant component in contemporary music production. This paper explores the growth and impact sampling has on older works of music. The study looks at how modern artists use sampling as a creative tool to give old musical works new life. It does this by looking at sampling practices, cultural effects, and musical changes. The study uses case studies, critical analyses, and theoretical frameworks to show how sampling connects the past and the present, artistic value of older works while bringing them to the forefront of modern music. A thorough market study was conducted, gathering qualitative and quantitative data to understand market trends and validate the idea\u27s viability. Financial projections, a business model, and an implementation plan are also included.
This project\u27s completion provided invaluable skills in both business plan development and festival organization. Each phase brought new challenges, such as securing an appropriate venue and defining the brand identity to attract potential partners. Silkwind Media Marketing agency in China
No full textThis paper describes the background, goals, actionable tasks, execution, and challenges of the SilkWind Media. Initially conceived as a Silk Road album connecting artists in Central Asia, the focus shifted to establishing an agency to support international artists in building social media presence in China. The purpose of this Culminating Experience project was to create a business plan and build our capabilities as a cultural connector and event promoter while creating meaningful opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and economic growth. Key tasks included developing a business plan, conducting market research, financial planning, and establishing strategic partnerships with local influencers and digital platforms. Over the course of a few months, our understanding of both Western and Chinese culture deepened, allowing us to effectively adapt content for local audiences. This experience not only enhanced our professional skills, but also strengthened our commitment to promoting global artistic collaboration. DR Composer and Creative Talent Agency
No full textFor my CE project, as Head of the new DR Composer and Creative Talent Agency, I put a plan into place that would address our specific Berklee environment, and what assets we have: talent, tech, music theory skill, low-cost recordings, education in creating high quality midi mock-ups, law classes, and professors with experience in the music & film worlds. I aimed to build a large agency, made up of exclusively Berklee talent (as we had more than enough to go around), capable of satisfying the varying needs of a multitude of film projects. This involved forming mutually beneficial relationships between new, talented filmmakers, and our composers. I envisioned a hands-on approach in which the DR Agency would be a one-stop-shop for everything these filmmakers needed with regard to the music in their films. I’d help these parties to collaborate effectively, guiding filmmakers through the process of working with a music department, and ensuring composers felt supported along the way. The support I provided for the composers included procuring projects that matched their career goals and pay expectations, ensuring fair contracts were signed, that the composers were paid on time, and that the projects were completed within the agreed upon timelines. Creating Music With Colour (Synesthesia in the Creative Process)
No full textAs a Synesthete, and a singer/songwriter, I’ve set out to determine, employing my master\u27s degree thesis, how my chromesthesia could be used as a tool affecting creativity. Through exploration, I conducted collaborative exercises with my peers to investigate how other creatives, some Synesthetes, and some not, interpret and conceptualize music. Songwriters typically compose based on emotion, lyrics, melody, harmony, and rhythm. By adding a visual component, colour, based on my associations, I am able to change the creative process through a mix of sound and perception, shaping an interesting form of musical expression through sensory experiences. This presentation, using performance and visuals, will highlight some of my findings, along with my Synesthetic concomitance, as it relates to the creation of original work. The Modern Folklore Speller Case Studies on Contemporizing Traditional Chinese Folk Songs
No full textMy project aims to explore the possibilities of fusing contemporary music styles with traditional Chinese folk songs. I have been trained in traditional Chinese folk songs singing for over 20 years and have developed a passion and connection with the music. In the most recent years, I noticed how the younger generation has become less interested in this genre and that a lot of the great melodies were slowly fading away in public recognition. With this realization, I would love to take on the mission of contemporizing traditional folk songs and re-introduce them to the general public.
I have chosen six traditional folk songs from five ethnic groups in China to fuse with five contemporary music genres: contemporary jazz, neo-soul, R&B, A Capella, and Falemnco. By exploring different instrumentations, changing time signatures, rephrasing melodies, extending the original structures of traditional Chinese folk songs, and collaborating with producers with contemporary music backgrounds, I have gained valuable knowledge and lessons every step of the way, including but not limited to the arrangement, recording, production, and mixing process.
