    Developing Our Students\u27 Creation-Driven Mindsets

    No full text
As faculty and educators, we are all responsible for creating an environment that will foster our students’ personal, creative, and artistic growth. This session will introduce a research-based framework that explains how students develop a creation-driven mindset; and the ways in which the educational experiences we provide (or don’t provide) influence it. Through the exploration of five developmental domains—(1) recognizing the unintended consequences of success-as-prescribed; (2) discovering creative drive; (3) building creative agency; (4) negotiating degrees of creative freedom; and, (5) catalyzing creative growth—we’ll explore some practical considerations for designing—with greater intention—educational experiences that advance each student’s development journey.https://remix.berklee.edu/pac/1020/thumbnail.jp

Melodic Contours and Harmonic Language: Brazilian Songwriting as a Foundation for Instrumental Composition

    No full text
This project investigates how the melodic phrasing and emotional depth inherent in Brazilian popular song can inform and reshape contemporary instrumental composition. Emerging from a personal reconnection with Brazilian song traditions during the author\u27s graduate studies at Berklee Valencia, the research marks a shift from an initial focus on electronic textures to an approach grounded in melodic and song-based sensibilities. Influenced by artists such as Chico Pinheiro, Daniel Santiago, and Pedro Martins, the work explores how vocal phrasing can serve as a guiding force in the development of harmony, formal structure, and emotional expression within instrumental contexts. Drawing on performative, action research and autoethnography methodologies, the project blends original compositions, collaborative songwriting, and reflective documentation to build a portfolio rooted in Brazilian melodic aesthetics. Pieces such as “Composition 1,” “Valensambando,” and “Xangô” exemplify how lyrical phrasing and intuitive songwriting practices were adapted to instrumental forms. Through this creative inquiry, the project offers a renewed perspective on the expressive capabilities of melody in instrumental music, positioning songwriting as a culturally resonant and emotionally rich foundation for contemporary composition.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-contemporary-performance/1327/thumbnail.jp

    RE:STRUCT

    No full text
RE:STRUCT, a term to encompass restructuring, reinvention, evolution, in the broadest sense of its meaning. From personal development to the birth and death of a star, this eternal cycle of the way every single thing in this world restructures itself and evolves. This is what I am representing with the body of work I created for my culminating experience project. Reflecting on my own personal development throughout the creation process, but also everything that came before. How every past decision has led to this point in time. How we all restructure our surroundings, influence our family and friends, take action to make a change, or decide not to. How every action chains us together and influences one another. This project was a way to challenge myself on a technical and personal level and represents my growth as a person, but also as a producer throughout this year, and all that came before it.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-cmat/1126/thumbnail.jp

    VividLY

    No full text
This project aims to develop a cohesive artistic identity through the lens of creative output and strategic presentation. Centered around the release of a six-part Alternative R&B song series titled VividLY, the project explores how consistent sonic and visual branding can enhance audience engagement and long-term recognition. Each song release includes multiple forms of media content—such as beat breakdowns, lyric videos, and behind-the-scenes footage—to offer immersive entry points into the artist’s world. A distinct color palette and graphic language were used to shape the visual identity, while customized music production techniques helped establish a signature sound characterized by aggressive synth bass and soft, emotionally rich vocals. The structure of the release plan draws inspiration from marketing frameworks and personal narrative arcs, using bi-monthly drops to gradually build momentum and deepen listener connection. One of the primary challenges was balancing artistic integrity with marketing clarity across platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and NetEase Music. Ultimately, this project offers a replicable model for independent artists aiming to build an intentional, scalable music brand that spans audio, video, and social media formats.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-cmat/1151/thumbnail.jp
