Open House Seville - Exhibition
Get PDFOn 11 May 2023, in the framework of the USE HERSUS Event series, the USE OPEN HOUSE activity of the international HERSUS project took place. The Open House was organized in a form of exhibition which consists of three parts: (1) RESULTS OF THE HERSUS STUDENT WORKSHOPS (The brief preview of the Syllabuses and Student Results – research and designs), (2) AWARDED PROPOSALS OF THE HERSUS PRIZE ON MODERN HERITAGE (The awarded, finalist and shortlisted proposals for each of 4 categories – Edu- cation Students, Education Instructors, Practice, and Research), and (3) PRESENTATION OF HERSUS INTELLECTUAL OUTPUTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES (Timeline of the HERSUS Intellectual outputs followed by presenta- tion of organized events and main achievements including HERSUS in numbers presentation)
The exhibition was held at the LOBBY OF THE USE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE ETSAS with participation and interest of local students, academics, and representatives from practice. Get PDFАрхитектонски факултет у Београду је као један од важних учесника пројекта DANUrB+ у оквиру INTERREG подунавске прекограничне сарадње ЕУ био задужен за уређивање „D+Атласа: атлас скривених вредности градова дуж Дунава“ у два формата: штампаном и дигиталном. Дигитални атлас је урађен после штампаног, користећи исту грађу, сакупљену од стране пројектних партнера у градова Подунавља, која се односи на њихове посебности у културном, просторном и морфолошком смислу и њихова демографска и привредна обележја. Међутим, дигитални D+Атлас је ГИС платформа и има другачију логику у односу на први: подаци нису линеарно изложени, суштински не постоји ограничење по питању количине података, начини приказа, попут карата, шема, графикона и сл., су разноврснији и могу се комбиновати, а карте, као главно обележје атласа, могу мењати размеру, количину података и прецизност. Захваљујући овоме, дигитални D+Атлас пружа корисницима и љубитељима урбанизма и Дунава неограничене могућности у личном приступу и самосталном искуству у истраживању подунавских градова кроз платформу атласа
Archaeology of the Landscape
Get PDFIn the area of today’s Sremska Mitrovica, exists one of the most valuable archaeological sites on the territory of our country, in which the traces of the ancient city of Sirmium (one of the capital cities of the Roman Empire) are overlapped with all the later layers of life in this area from the Middle Ages to modern times. These layers testify to the continuity of this settlement, but also to its transformation. Nonetheless such a rich history is not presented adequately to its importance and attractiveness. While working with students, we raised the question how to restore the focus on the rich cultural heritage that it deserves both in society and in our personal perspectives? How can we get to know the historical continuity of the space belonging to us enough to be able to appreciate ourselves and our own cultural identity today, as well as the heterogeneity of that heritage and the changes it has undergone in constant reflections with the other and the different?Na prostoru današnje Sremske Mitrovice nalazi se jedno od najvrednijih arheoloških nalazišta na teritoriji naše države, u kojem su tragovi antičkog grada Sirmijuma (jednog od prestolnih gradova Rimske imperije) preklopljeni sa svim potonjim slojevima života na ovom području od srednjeg veka do savremenog doba. Ova slojevitost svedoči o kontinuitetu života ali i njegovoj transformaciji, ali ovako bogata faktografija nema prezentaciju koja je adekvatna njenom značaju i atraktivnosti. U radu sa studentima postavili smo pitanje kako vratiti fokus na bogato kulturno nasleđe koji ono zaslužuje i u društvu i u našim ličnim perspektivama? Aesthetics of Transport Infrastructure Space as Landscape Between Flows and Cultures of Movement
Get PDFThe contemporary city consists of a series of vital systems in which different
flows are present – movements, traffic, forms, thoughts, experiences,
and others. The traffic systems that occupy a large area of the
city and are important for its further development stand out.
The focus of the paper is on the landscape of transport space between
new modes of transport and different flows in the contemporary city
on the one hand and the culture of movement and meaning brought
by transport users on the other. Sensitivity as a measure in aesthetic
reading helps us to understand infrastructure as an integrated part of
the landscape, and not as isolated from it. The subject of the paper is
landscapes of experience from two perspectives of observation, i.e.,
two speeds of movement: vehicles and pedestrians–visual and sound
landscape. This paper aims to define the elements of user experience
in the space of transport, between aesthetics and humanity.
The study area is the space of Highway E75 in the old part of Belgrade,
especially loops (punctures) in connection with the rest of the
city–parts named Autokomanda and Mostarska petlja. The focus of
the paper is the avant-garde observation of infrastructures like Bergson’s
metaphysics, which contributes to the metaphysical framework
of transport infrastructure and the definition of the relative and the
absolute in a flow. Also, there are Bosanquet’s aesthetic approaches
that help define a new pattern of experience in the aesthetics of
transport. Two films of German Expressionism from the Weimar period,
“Metropolis” and “Golem”, help to consider social conditions and
factors in the space of transport.
There is a question of considering space as landscape and also landscape
as a space. When space is landscape, we can consider space
in the aesthetics of architecture, sculpture, and urbanism, trying to
define space-volume and space-direction. The paper contributes
to a new way of perceiving the space of transport outside its economic
role in the neoliberal world, where speed and connection in
the exchange of goods, services, and people are extremely important,
seeking the aesthetics and humanity of such a space
Architecture–Infrastructure–Landscape assimilation in the post-industrial development of Danube waterfront in Belgrade: research-by-design approaches [BAB 2023]
Get PDFThis paper presents the research of the typological frameworks loss between architecture, infrastructure and landscape in research-by-design results in a decade of work on the Master's final thesis and projects with the topic Making of a City: postindustrial development of the area between Dunavska Street and the Belgrade’s Danube waterfront, under the mentorship of professor Nebojša Fotirić, with assistant Dr Bojana Jerković-Babović. Phenomena such as globalization, hyperproduction of information, virtual interactions, etc., lead to specific social and cultural fragmentation within the framework of fluid exchange networks on a global and local level. The new relations between the local and the global are manifested by the separation between the symbolic meaning of the location, function and new forms of appropriation of space. Accordingly, the research questions in the context of the post-industrial phase of Belgrade’s Danube Waterfront include the understanding of modern, hybrid programming settings and new models of spatial use. Such approaches, considering the needs of the contemporary aesthetic experience of the city, modernize architectural programs and transform typologies in inherited contexts. In this paper, out of 80 projects, 10 projects from the previous 10 generations were selected, which meet the criteria of (1) realizing the continuity of urban movement that connects architecture, infrastructure and landscape, (2) forming a dynamic perceptual experience in motion and (3) erasing clear boundaries between the interior and exterior. New urban landscapes are created, in which clear boundaries between architecture, infrastructure and natural landscape are lost in the conventional typological sense. Bold contrasts and clear lines express an aesthetic of elegance, simplicity, clarity and modernity. The design colour palette consists of black and white contrasts and golden metal accents as the starting point for the total design of the space. All furniture elements are designed and custom-made. The kitchen and dining room are the main spatial accent. Get PDFTo effectively tackle the complex socio-ecological challenges of our time, it is imperative to utilise design approaches that are both transformative and broadly applicable. Such design approaches must transcend traditional boundaries of fields, domains, and disciplines and foster cross-cutting collaboration and innovation. By adopting a holistic and inclusive perspective, we can work towards meaningful and sensitive solutions that address the multifaceted challenges facing our society and environment. Failure to do so could result in a lack of understanding of environmental
values and problems, leading to a significant lack of progress and understanding in these critical areas of our lives. In line with that, design education can play a central role in creating more sustainable, equitable and healthy urban environments. Transformative learning can provide “a qualitative shift“ in our living spaces at all spatial scales. It calls for dialogue, reflection, and action,

Get PDFLIFE ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET: Adaptation and reconstruction of the aparment in Dobračina street, Belgrade
The initial arrangement of this capacious city center apartment, which positioned the living area towards the noisy and polluted Cara Dušana Street in Belgrade, posed challenges for both daytime and nighttime activities. This was due to the overlapping paths between the kitchen and living room, and paths between the two bedrooms and the bathroom. The bedrooms, in their existing state, proved overly spacious for mere sleepeng while lacking adequate proportion for additional functionality.
To address these issues, a strategy involving cuts and recomposition of the interior fabric was implemented. The living area was reoriented toward a tranquil, sunlit inner courtyard facing south. A residential corridor neatly separated the night area from the entrance hall, connecting the master bedroom, two children's rooms with access to a spacious terrace, and a shared bathroom. This redesign transformed the apartment's atmosphere. The sunlit living area now served as the hub for daily routines, encouraging communal time. Residents retreated to their private spaces solely for sleep and hygiene.
Material choices were influenced by the warm, natural tones of the surroundings, the vibrant greenery of a towering 15-meter-high green wall in the inner courtyard, and the bright yellow hues of the morning and midday sun. This thoughtful reconfiguration brought harmony to the apartment, optimizing space and orienting everyday routines towards the interiority of Dorćol's housing blocks
