In the light of the development of new construction systems and envelopes based on renewable and natural materials, that is recently obligatory for the EU member countries through New renovation Wave strategy, authors present research on the topic of energy renovation of buildings using renewable materials in modular systems and its possibilities in two developing countries. This paper presents energy savings, through case study of deep renovation of buildings, using timber modular systems for enveloping the characteristic example of residential building. Paper focuses on the period between 1971 and 1980, due to the considerable number of modular buildings designed during the peak of the construction progress and promotion of prefabricated buildings. Total potential energy savings for such building types is considered according to national typologies of residential buildings in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Through a comparative analysis of these countries, the paper presents following parameters of buildings built in period 1971-1980: total number of buildings, total number of apartments, average energy need for heating - Qh,nd, and total energy need for heating before and after the renovation of the envelope applying standard measures from national typologies and applying timber modular envelope systems, which have the potential for deep renovation of buildings

Regeneration of rural settlements by renewal, remodelation and conversion of public facilities in village centers

The transformation of the way of life and living space in the last two centuries in the centers of the villages of Serbia, caused by many spontaneous and violent upheavals and changes in social behavior, does not stop even today. It is sometimes radical, and is constantly charged with potential, which, if well articulated and focused on real activities, based on the romanticism of the past and the imagination of the future, can bring new human values to the living space. The manuscript seeks to shed light on possible approaches and useful actions in the regeneration of rural settlements, by renovating the existing construction fund - public facilities in the centers of Serbian villages. This contributes to the consideration of a wide range of possibilities of access to heritage in rural or suburban areas, i.e., possible desired outcomes and benefits of such action. In a long period, observing from the genesis of rural centers to modern processes, through their diachronic development and stagnation, a permanent oscillation and fluctuation in the quality of spatial manifestations is observed. Of course, this phenomenon is the result of frequent changes in the concept of social conditioning, and the context of the socio - economic - political environment. In the conditions of imminent extinction of settlements, it is useful to actively respond to such processes, which, in addition to their regenerative role, can bring new qualities to rural environments. Among other examples of discontinuities in rural development, the manuscript refers to the mass construction of cooperative homes after the Second World War, in rural areas of Serbia. This tendency represented the first step in the imagined general socialist transformation of villages and settlements of rural character in the peripheral zones of cities. As contents that were destined to carry social and cultural life, cooperative homes, as a rule, occupied central positions in villages and suburbs. By overcoming the ideals and value systems of the proclaimed and implemented social order in the decades at the end of the 20th century, there was a change in the paradigm of the socialist model of planning of rural settlements in Serbia (as well as in the surrounding area). With this abandonment of the principles that had been valid for almost half a century until then, the possibility was opened, and it happened, that the architectural and construction heritage of that epoch would be increasingly neglected. The still solidly preserved architectural heritage from the socialist, but also earlier periods of construction in the villages and urban areas of Serbia is, from the point of view of the modern context, many times interesting for extensive research and protection and revitalization projects. Тhe manuscript strives to reaffirm and revitalize the existing identity and ambient values in rural centers in Serbia, with the aim of regenerating rural areas in every sense.Konstatovana je tehnička greška u impresumu, gde su postavljeni podaci za book of abstracts

Global Village - Utopia or Reality?

    Get PDF
The discussion will start debates about the diverse paradigms of suburban, rural, and urban places in today's global society, and it will do so by comparing these three types of locations. The primary point of contention is whether a Global Village should be categorized as an idealistic utopia or a feasible possibility for the foreseeable future. This debate will explore the advantages and disadvantages of each type of location, considering factors such as population density, infrastructure, and access to resources. Additionally, it will delve into the social, economic, and environmental implications of striving towards a Global Village concept. In the conversation that will bridge hierarchical and network viewpoints, we will investigate the idea of needs. Let's investigate some alternative ways of living to the one we are now accustomed to, on the presumption that we ought to consider the requirements that have been produced. These alternative ways of living may include sustainable communities, eco-villages, and self-sufficient neighborhoods. By considering the requirements that have been produced, we can explore how these alternative living arrangements can address issues such as energy consumption, mobility, built environment, waste management, and food production more efficiently and environmentally friendly. Furthermore, examining the social and economic implications of these alternative ways of living can shed light on the potential benefits and challenges they may bring to individuals and society as a whole. The core beliefs and identities held by people all over the world help to foster the growth of a diversified socio-economic and cultural network that spans a variety of geographic regions. This network serves as the basis for a worldwide community that is referred to as the Global Village. Within the context of our increasingly interdependent global community, this idea stands as a singular example of new communalism. As a result, Global Village would like to draw your attention to the following topics, most of which are also being explored in the thematic sessions of the conference: 1.ARCHITECTURE OF GLOBAL VILLAGE: PATTERNS, FORMS, SYSTEMS 2.PLANNING AND ARRANGING THE GLOBAL VILLAGE: INSTRUMENTS AND MODELS 3.MODERN TECHNOLOGIES IN RISK MANAGEMENT OF TERRITORIES 4.FORMS OF MOVEMENT AND MOBILITY MANAGEMENT IN THE GLOBAL VILLAGE 5.THE ROLE OF URBAN PLANNERS IN MANAGING THE CLIMATE TRANSITION 6.NEW MODELS OF ARCHITECTURE IN TRANSITION 7.RESILIENT CITIES IN THE ERA OF GLOBALIZATION: URBAN INTERVENTIONS TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE 8.HEALTHY city HEALTHY people: designing future cities for "mind body and soul" 9.RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIES - IDEAS AND POSSIBILITIE

Villa Pavlović and the Dissolution of Gold

    No full text
The paper offers a theoretical basis for understanding the design methodology of the Villa Pavlović project (by the Belgrade-based architecture studio NEO arhitekti). The theoretical analysis of the design process focuses on the issue of form. The initial idea to build a 50-meter swim lane in the basement gave the house an elongated form, but was ultimately not realised. The moment the form lost its main function, its finitude became a problem that had to be overcome for the design process to continue. By reflecting on the theoretical problems of teleology and time, the text indirectly explains the applied methodology for the destabilisation of the created form. In that sense, a metaphor of dissolution of gold describes the design process, potentially understood as opposite to morphogenesis

    And

Another repertoire of (dis)connections (in the plural) between architecture and philosophy (could we say between architecture and the discourse used to thematize architecture?), another model of the space of AND, a third space as bearer and protector of the new – could be designated with italics or cursive, that is, as AND. AND is AND on the run (cursivus, cursus), rushing ahead. The nearest possible word in Indo-European languages that could label this protocol of urgent occupying and “holding” space is χωρεῖν. When an architect or philosopher writes or draws, their hand is bent and slanted in speed and urgency to faithfully execute and deliver the concept

The timber roof structure of the church central nave in Niksic

    Get PDF
The paper presents the solution of the timber roof structure of the central nave in the town of Nikšić in Montenegro. The central part of the roof is shaped like a regular pyramid over an octagonal base. The basic structural system consists of eight curved timber girders, which are supported in the corners of the octagon and are connected at one point at the top of the roof. Above these girders, in their plane, the secondary supporting structure was added, in order to form the pyramidal shape of the roof. Considering the curved shape of the girders of the basic structural system, the design of the structure foresees glued laminated timber for the basic elements of the roof structure. The solution includes a presentation of all elements of the roof construction, according to the hierarchy of load transfer, as well as a solution of steel connectors for the mutual connection of timber elements

The financialization of ‘the urban’ in the post-socialist Serbia: evidence from the Belgrade Waterfront megaproject

    Get PDF
As a leading mechanism of the global neoliberal paradigm, financialization plays a significant role in the growth of economies and changes in urban development patterns. Though particularly significant for post-socialist European countries, research on urban financialization considering both eco-nomic (rental income, property sales, interest rates) and noneconomic aspects (social dynamics, social and legal norms, financialized discourses) is yet to emerge in Serbia. Observing the period after the 2008 global economic and financial crisis, and based on multiple analyses (statistical, documentary and discourse), this paper first provides an overview of different global and national financial indicators, then elucidates the impact of market financing on the built environment at the national level, and, finally, illustrates the financialization of urban planning policies and discourses exemplified in the Belgrade Waterfront urban megaproject. The empirical analysis provides not only an insight into a strong structural and dynamic conditionality between various dimensions of financialization, but also highlights the nuances in decision-making, planning and governance influenced by the financialized discourses

The apartment was designed to be a cozy place intended to accommodate a young couple with a child. The backbone of the concept is a balance between functionality and comfort to achieve the true essence of living in a contemporary urban context. The living room and dining with the kitchen are designed to be coherent space usage. The choice of colors refers to nature and simplicity inspired by a palette of earthy tones with contrast in details.https://www.strand.rs/2023-book-exhibition
