The paper systematizes geometric aspects relevant for understanding design of solar systems. The systematization is based on a review of literature dedicated to various kinds of engineers, including architects, involved in a multidisciplinary process of conceptualizing, designing and realization of PV systems. The understanding of the presented geometric aspects, known as solar geometry, is important not only in terms of finding optimal orientation and most effective tilt of solar modules, but also in terms of adequate geometric modelling of façade elements of a complex shape (as specific photovoltaic modules) in order to be optimally exposed to the sun all over the year. After providing detailed explanations of the main elements of solar geometry using the tools of spherical trigonometry, the paper discusses the integration of the presented geometric concepts in the BIM environments, and refers the example of Autodesk Revit software through its sun study tool. Analysed are functionalities of all interactive components of the 3D solar path representation. A need for more explicit determination of an incidence angle of the sun rays on a tilted surface is stressed. In the conclusion highlighted is the essential knowledge on solar geometry that needs to be acquired during architectural education, so that architects participating in the BIM working environments could be prepared for efficient conceptualization of integrated solar systems.U radu su sistematizovani najvažniji geometrijski aspekti koji su relevantni za celovito razumevanje projektovanja fotonaponskih sistema.

Ideas regarding aesthetical thinking on architecture developed through history a number of interpretations addressing its cultural and social importance. These interpretations appear as formations of possible worlds of meanings, structured through human power of imagination and reaching impressive levels of creative comprehension what architectural structure can reflect by its meaningful essence. The paper explores one of such possible world of meanings, given in a form of numerical interpretation of the architectural structure of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople. Beside its complex and hermeneutic nature, the analyzed document reveals highly sophisticated level of interactions of various cultural elements. They are composed into a whole which idealistic and poetic nature seems to be based on cosmopolitan approach to philosophy, religion, and human capability to comprehend the divine essence of creativity. It reminds us on the very nature of the intercultural nature of philosophic interpretation of architecture as a living condition of aesthetic thinking. Moreover, the document discussed in this paper, shows that such a fascination with architecture is not exclusive to the contemporary aesthetic thought, but represents one of the historical fundaments of that what social and cultural comunication in architecture is

Aleksandar Deroko: Between tradition and modernity

    Get PDF
Although numerous writings by professor Aleksandar Deroko raise essential questions about the nature, the history, and the methodology of architecture, he never provided a systematic theory, and his assertions did not belong to any mainstream architectural discourse. However, his romantic visions of remote, medieval monasteries and their origin on one hand, and on the other, the rational and methodical approach to heritage surveying evident in both his early texts and later architectural textbooks, resulted in some very novel theoretical ideas in architecture of the twentieth century. This paper examines the understanding of the tradition and modernity in the work of professor Deroko, investigates reasons behind his duality, explores the way he synthesised his research work with his pedagogical work, and tries to systematise his theoretical ideas

Introduction of vernacular architecture studies at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade

The paper examines the work of Aleksandar Deroko at the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Architecture and the inclusion of his rich personal knowledge about the vernacular architecture in the study programme, which he gained from long-term field research. As an assistant professor, he introduced the interpretation of vernacular architecture in the course on Byzantine and Old Serbian Architecture in 1929. After the study programme reform in 1935, a new course – named Old Serbian Architecture – was established, with one semester dedicated to the medieval monumental architecture and the second to rural and urban houses. In 1945/46 academic year, the course was renamed Vernacular Architecture and it incorporated medieval and vernacular architecture of the former Yugoslavia. Practical assignments dealt more with vernacular architecture and, through them the student’s discovered the fundamental principles and methods of the vernacular construction. The goal of the studies was for students to comprehend and adopt basic traditional canons of construction and apply them to their own projects of cooperative centres, countryside schools, monasteries, etc. Through illustrations the paper will present, till now unpublished, student projects from the archives of Belgrade’s the Faculty of Architecture’s office for the architectural heritage of Serbia

Tracing Path: From Conserved/ Museum towards Vivid City– Role of Urban Design

    Get PDF
The relation to the "historical city" can have two contradictory goals, ie. the tendency to form two opposing contradictory models: on the one hand, the preservation of all levels of values shows and proves its priori historicity, which in the final form manifests itself in obtaining the character of a museum model, where the historical city turns into an exhibit of the time in which it was created and which reflects the civilization in which it originated; on the other hand, the need for their socio-economic development, especially in relation to gentrification, tourism development introduces new activities. Both models should not be seen as separate or opposing, but the way to preserve the "historic" of the city as a base value should be discovered, and enable it to attract and live its "history", evolving and changing on the principles of the time in which it was created, accepted and adapted to the cultural needs of the time it should take. The aim of the paper is to make relations between relevant theories resulting in principles of tracing relation between two models taking into account Landry's concept of Creative city, and Castells's theory of Project identity, Healey's Collaborative theory, Mrdjenovic's Integrative game of urban design using method of comparative analyses between theories and case study analysis. The hypothesis of the research is that urban design can be an integrative discipline that evokes historical cities to become vivid and livable. The research will result in principles for urban design that can trace a path form museum to vivid city

Possible worlds of contemporary aesthetics: aesthetics between history, geography and media : book of аbstracts / 21st International Congress of Aesthetics ICA 2019, Belgrade

The Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade and the Society for Aesthetics of Architecture and Visual Arts of Serbia (DEAVUS) are proud to be able to organize the 21st ICA Congress on “Possible Worlds of Contemporary Aesthetics: Aesthetics Between History, Geography and Media”. We are proud to announce that we received over 500 submissions from 56 countries, which makes this Congress the greatest gathering of aestheticians in this region in the last 40 years. The ICA 2019 Belgrade aims to map out contemporary aesthetics practices in a vivid dialogue of aestheticians, philosophers, art theorists, architecture theorists, culture theorists, media theorists, artists, media entrepreneurs, architects, cultural activists and researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences. More precisely, the goal is to map the possible worlds of contemporary aesthetics in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia. The idea is to show, interpret and map the unity and diverseness in aesthetic thought, expression, research, and philosophies on our shared planet. Our goal is to promote a dialogue concerning aesthetics in those parts of the world that have not been involved with the work of the International Association for Aesthetics to this day. Global dialogue, understanding and cooperation are what we aim to achieve. That said, the 21st ICA is the first Congress to highlight the aesthetic issues of marginalised regions that have not been fully involved in the work of the IAA. This will be accomplished, among others, via thematic round tables discussing contemporary aesthetics in East Africa and South America. Today, aesthetics is recognized as an important philosophical, theoretical and even scientific discipline that aims at interpreting the complexity of phenomena in our contemporary world. People rather talk about possible worlds or possible aesthetic regimes rather than a unique and consistent philosophical, scientific or theoretical discipline

In the publication OMNIBUS: SHORT STORIES ON HOUSING TOPICS, six thematic units are explored across three chapters of the book. The theoretical and practical aspects of the methodological units are analytically and synthetically explained, and they are accompanied by illustrations of selected student works from Design Studio 03b at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade. The chapter “Relation to City Context” focuses on the relationships between residential space and the urban environment. This chapter is conceptualized into two complementary thematic units: (1) Ground level, and (2) Street Facade, exploring the key parameters to define the influence of environment on the design process. Thematic unit 1 concentrates on the spatial framework – the built environment and natural ambiance; the architectural program; and the level of interaction taking into account the specific interaction between users’ private and public lives in the ground floor area of a multi-family residential building. The experience of the boundary between the private and public spheres of the city, as well as the formal characteristics of the street facade through composition, materialization, color, construction techniques, and architectural details, are explored in the second thematic unit of this chapter.Признање 43.
