Disillusionment of Althusserism and Rebellious Individualism
This paper is a comparative study of two dramatic works of Henrik Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the people”, written in 1882, and Akbar Radi’s “The Savior in the Damp Morning” written in1986. It is an attempt at elaborating Althusser’s clarification of the term ‘Ideology’ as the disillusionment when the individualistic features are considered. This refers to the opposition which exists between how the ideological discourse functions and what an individual member of a society intents to establish. Rebelliousness is one of the significantly controversial characteristics of individualism which is regarded as its chaotic expression which can disrupt and rebuild the current ideology. In both Althusserism and Individualism, the subject holds the ideology that has been implicitly or explicitly defined due to the fact that the subject is exposed to as well as involved with it. Since the subject is the performer of certain acts and the conveyor of certain thoughts, the social relation which is constructed is determined according to the overall production or benefit for all those who are involved within the community. The ideology of social relation discredits the attempts of subjects at revealing self-governing and self-determining ideas which lead to disillusionment. This comparative study is, by and large, displaying the way two dramatists, who belong to completely distinct cultures and societies, presented the ideologies of their time and the true nature of invisible power discourse
Revealing Postcolonialism through Unrelated Words Translation Strategy in Translating Toer’s Bumi Manusia into Lane’s This Earth Of Mankind
The fast development of translation field entails transferring one culture to another culture. Linguistic elements and the message of a writing, the external background such as culture, political, economic, or even historical background that adheres to the Source Text (ST) inevitably has to be taken to the Target Text (TT). In order to produce an acceptable product of literary translation, a translator has to possess knowledge of Source Text background. This research is aimed at finding out the ideology in unrelated words’ translation strategy in translating Toer’s Bumi Manusia, a winner of PEN Freedom-to-write Awards in 1988 and Ramon Magsaysay Awards in 1995. This novel shows a truthful depiction of what happened back then in Indonesia and the values that were struggled for the society. This novel is translated into This Earth of Mankind. This research gives a perspective regarding postcolonial translation in a way that it reveals the ideology and scope of postcolonialism by observing and understanding unrelated words’ translation strategy. Revealing postcolonialism in This Earth of Mankind is done through translation using unrelated words as the concept expressed by the source item is not lexicalized at all in English in the light of postcolonial translation approach. The findings of translation of the postcolonial novel into English show a great deal in meaning and context alteration, the loss of information, the less impact in reading and interpreting the text, and generalization which universalizes the unique and great Javanese culture as the main setting of the story Bumi Manusia. Translation using unrelated words reveals neo-colonialism which unfortunately still dominates through the work of translation.

Direct and Indirect Written Corrective Feedback: A Literature Review of Sampling and Design Features, Target Structures and Overall Effects
Scholars' attention on written corrective feedback especially the direct-indirect
dichotomy has been increasing due to inconsistencies in its effects toward L2
learners’ linguistic accuracy. Therefore, this study was performed to provide a
literature review of the increasing number of WCF studies that may provide new
perspectives for future research on direct-indirect WCF strategies. This study
takes a systematic literature approach to synthesize 16 empirical studies that
focusing on the effect of direct-indirect WCF from SCOPUS database. The 7-step
systematic review process was used as the main approach for this study. 4
research questions were formulated to guide the study. The findings have
revealed the sampling features of ESL context, beginner, and advanced
proficiency levels of learners are underexplored. Moreover, it is also suggested
that future studies incorporate control groups to compare the effects of directindirect WCF strategies with non-treatment groups. Methodologically, other
research approaches should also be considered by future studies for most of the
studies in the review applied experimental approach. In highlighting the targeted
linguistic structures, this study has found the focus of studies in the review as
mostly emphasizing on grammatical aspect, thus suggesting for more WCF
studies on non-grammatical aspects. Finally, the overall effect suggests that
indirect WCF was effective on both grammatical and non-grammatical structures
whereas direct WCF was mostly effective on non-grammatical structures
Presentation as One of The Best Models for Teaching Speaking
The aim of the research is to show that presentation is one of the best models for
teaching speaking for accounting education students. This research and
development study consists of exploration, designing model draft, validating model,
experts jugment, revising model, implementing model, data description, data
analysis, findings and discussion, recommendation, revising, the final model and
dissemination. Technique of data collection was obtained by using test, interview,
observation and documentation; Technique of data analyze for quantitative data
used non independent t-test. To analyze the qualitative data, the researcher used
trianggulation and flow model of analysis. The research results showed that: 1. The
first model improves the students’ bravery to speak up in front of the audience and
make a better condition of the students’ speaking environment. 2. The second
model results showed that the development of the students’ speaking ability grew
up rapidly and their grammar and vocabulary also getting better. 3. The Final Model
makes very clear improvement on their bravery to speak up in front of the
audience. Their learning progress and speaking ability grow up rapidly, their
grammar and vocabulary also increased significantly. The computation result
showed that all of the results is higher than tt (2,02). It showed that Developing a
model of teaching speaking through presentation is good, suitable and accurate for
teaching and improving the Accounting Education Students’ Speaking Ability of
Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta is proved correct and significan
Oral Communication Apprehension (OCA) among Undergraduate Accounting and Journalism Students in Bangladesh
Communication apprehension especially oral communication apprehension (OCA) is very prevalent among the students of Bangladesh. Students with good academic results are often found weak in oral skills. The objective of this study is to explore the determinants and level of OCA among the Undergraduate accounting and journalism students in Bangladesh. Total 182 students were taken as sample size from one prominent educational institution of Bangladesh for a survey with PRCA (Personal Report of Communication Apprehension) 24 worksheet. The Study explored if there is any significant difference in OCA depending on different variables like Department, Age, CGPA, Year, Gender and Educational Background. The result found CGPA and educational background to have 10% and 1% significance level respectively excluding other variables. The study adds implications for the development of a strong communication skill, the development of “good communicators” and for managing balance between academic knowledge and mass communicatio
Underproduction or Overproduction? A Corpus-based Study of Chinese EFL Learners’ Use of English Relative Clauses
This paper attempts to examine whether Chinese English learners adopt the underproduction or overproduction behavior when using English relative clauses in academic writing. To achieve the objective of the study, the researchers used a corpus-based method to analyze and compare the production of the restrictive relative clause among Chinese students and native English students. The aims were to find out if the Chinese students underproduce the English relative clause and also examine how frequently they use that, which, and zero relative pronouns as reported in the sub-corpus of the Written English Corpus of Chinese Learner (WECCL) and the British Academic Written English corpus (BAWE). Based on the findings, conclusions are drawn as follows; compared to native English students, Chinese EFL learners generally tend to underproduce the restrictive relative clause in academic writing; and on the other hand, overuse the relative pronoun that. The observations from this study concur with the findings from previous studie
Exploring Some Morpho-Syntactic, Lexical and Semotactic Errors in three Western and Eastern Translations of the Meanings of Surat Al-Baqara into the English Language: A Comparative Study
The current study aims at exploring some morphosyntactic, lexical and semotactic errors in three Western and Eastern Translations of the meanings of Surat Al-Baqara into English; that is in translations of George Sale, and Arthur John Arberry and Khan and Mohammed Taj Al-Din Al-Hilai. Also, the study aims at investigating how the three translators deal with the morphosyntactic, lexical and semotactic difficulties in their translating of. the meanings of Surat Al-Baqara into English. Four Ayahs of Surat AlBaqara were purposefully selected to address the research questions and categorized into lexical errors, morphological errors, syntactic Errors and semantic errors. The study shows that there are some syntactic, morphological, lexical and semantic errors in the translation of the meaning of Surat Al-Baqara into English rendered by George Sale, and Arthur John Arberry. Moreover, the syntactic, morphological, lexical and semantic errors occurred due to many factors such as lack of equivalence and the translation strategies employed. The study also suggests some solutions for the identified morphosyntactic, lexical and semotactic difficulties and gives correct translations for the incorrect translation of the purposive Ayahs. The study also recommendsthat translators must employ footnotes (see example 1 andother translation strategies to avoid a probable loss of the intended meaning
Newspapers as Carriers of New Terms Namely (Neologism) and Their role in Enhancing Students' Vocabulary: Guardian Newspaper as a Model
This study aimed at identifying the importance of the newspapers as carriers and contents of new vocabulary. Understanding of some journalistic strategies and techniques such as the usage of lexical terms namely(neologism.) helps students to learn and acquire new vocabulary. Scientists and linguists argued that English language is growing fast, therefore it is significant to identify the means and mechanisms of spreading new terms (neologism). This paper takes the pain of proving that newspapers are considered as one of the creators and mediums which have a significant role in spreading neologisms by using new formation of words in their headlines and news being as a fundamental source of the current events this requires creating and adopting new words which describe new happenings. It is argued that one can acquire the new language by understanding its culture and this will be achieved by examining and grasping its new words. Moreover, this article draws the attention of English teachers to the increasing number of new words or neologisms that appear in the English language particularly in newspapers' headlines and news., thereby neologisms should be integrated into the vocabulary material offered to English learners. 68 samples within five days of headlines and their relevant news will be analyzed to illustrate the intensive usage of the neologisms by the newspapers
Genealogy of Cebuano Language in Calbayog City, Samar
This study investigated the reasons why the resident-participants of Brgy. Pena, Brgy. Malayog, Brgy. Cagmanipis Sur and Brgy. Cagmanipis Norte speak Cebuano. The researcher used narrative research design wherein, in-depth interviews were conducted to the participants of the barangays. Significant reasons revealed that the first settlers of the barangays originally came from Cebu and Masbate. The original settlers who came from Cebu and Masbate were Cebuano speakers in nature and this is due to the primary livelihood which is fishing. Further, the participants have strong language preservation and maintenance towards Cebuano language and a strong indicator of this is they are active speakers of their language. Hence, the participants positively see their language as their tool to communicate even with the majority speakers as they perceived their language not as a hindrance in participating in communication settings even with the Waray-Waray Speakers. Lastly, there is a precise establishment of habitual language use in a contact situation despite of contact with majority language speaker
Putatively Quintessential Behavioral-Pedagogical Conditions Reinforcing the Maintenance of EFL University Instructors
This investigation attempted to explore the necessary conditions to maintain and satisfy university instructors in the EFL context of Iran. To this end, 35 EFL instructors from diverse universities were interviewed, and then, based on the received ideas, a 29-item questionnaire on EFL instructor maintenance was designed and submitted to 48 other EFL instructors. To classify and choose a group of frequent ideas and decline the inessentials, the qualitative coding, i.e. open, axial, and selective coding, were applied. The results of the analysis revealed two major themes, i.e., behavioral and pedagogical, derived from six core categories, i.e., minimizing confrontations, promoting positive attitudes, reinforcing criticality, naturalizing blatantness, encouraging learning-centeredness, and inducing reflective-teaching learning, as six putatively quintessential conditions for the maintenance of EFL Instructors. Finally, this study suggested some pedagogical implications.
