Sfântul Prooroc Ilie "“ în scenariul eshatologic biblic doctrinar și în scenariul eshatologic popular românesc

The Holy Prophet Elijah occupies a place of honour in the religious thinking and living of Romanian orthodox believers in general, and of the Romanian peasant in particular. In the Romanian folk tradition, he is known as the patron of weather, of crops and beekeepers, being celebrated every year on July 20, in the middle of summer. In addition to the fact that the Holy Prophet Elijah is a model for true faith in troubled times and is considered a veteran testamentary precursor of Christian monasticism, he fulfils in the biblical scripture of the New Testament an important eschatological role. Thus, we can see him present, along with Moses, at the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor, an event related in all three synoptic gospels, but above all we find him (unnamed) in the book of Revelation, in chapter 11, where, together with the Enoch (also unnamed), they will face the Antichrist, being killed by it, and then raised by God and ascended to heaven. The Holy Prophet Elijah will be the Forerunner of the Second Coming of Christ, as this truth is repeated in his akathist hymn. The Romanian popular eschatology, taking over the scriptural motif from the book of Revelation, chapter 11, enriched it over time with a series of fabulous details regarding the eschatological role of the Prophet Elijah, details which, although nowhere in the pages of the Holy Scriptures, are not found. it contradicts this, even though their sources of inspiration constituted, to a large extent, a series of apocryphal writings of apocalyptic character, which circulated in the Romanian space during the Middle Ages. We will thus see that, at least from an eschatological point of view, in the religious mentality of the Romanian peasants, the Holy Prophet Elijah also combines in a harmonious, but fantastic way, the concept of Christian doctrinal religion and that of popular Christian religion

After the establishment of the communist regime in Romania, between State and Church held a deaf war and personality of priest professor Dr. Liviu Galaction Munteanu was essential in terms of counteraction the Marxist-Leninist ideology. As an officiating priest and refined theologian, "time and timeless" (2 Tim. 4, 2), father professor was an testimony by word and deed, always remaining believers that they shepherded and students, by the great role that is keeping the Orthodox faith: "Theology must be aware of the great role they should play in people`s life". He emphasised the importance of theological training of priest as witnesses, in an age in which the Church should be more present among people, to the "œroller" totalitarian communist, aiming at creating "œnew man" through propaganda scientific-materialistic, atheistic. In this context, the only solution was establishment of a program of catechesis, working through priests in every parish. Catechesis has not been done, Father intention being considered "œhostile" by the state bodies. His entire life was dedicated word, that ministered to Christ, the divine Logos incarnate. By his exhortations clergy aware of the importance of the mission given to each priest an solidarity with the faithful. His actions also presents itself as a real priest who was aware of his mission responsibility

Knowledge Society is characterized by some aspects which modify the way in which we approach the daily realities. In this regard, the development of IT&C technologies and the usage of knowledge, as fundamental resource for the new economy, allow the development of a context that solicits new approach modalities of the way in which faith is transmitted. Complementary, environmental problems and massive migration of population create new challenges for the way in which faith transmission is treated. Thus, in this new context, it is necessary to reapproach the way of faith transmission due to the new challenges. To realize this, it is required to focus the attention on the human and to study his deepest dimension. Consequently, the approach of the deepest human dimension imposes also the study of the unconscious. The study of the unconscious is necessary because it has influences in the way faith is transmitted and lived. The present exploratory study presents the possibilities in which the unconscious can influence the faith transmission through its specific processes and its symbolism

In the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, which is perceived and used in the divine worship by all Orthodox Church, the attribute of ecumenical or sobornost of the Church are mentioned. This fact presupposes that the Church has a degree of openness which should include other confessions in its preaching, in order to reach unity in Orthodoxy. At the hierarchical and theological level the ecumenicity has the purpose to bring others closer to the Orthodox faith at the local and parochial levels. It is quite often that ecumenicity is overlooked in Church "™s mission. My study will focus on the analysis of the articles from the Statute of the Romanian Orthodox Church, which foresee the possibility of mission in the parish. Through this study I would like to show that the Orthodox mission of preaching the faith can only reach its purpose if all of the structures of the Church are taking part in this goal

The topic proposed for this approach aims to highlight the ways in which Apostle Paul manages to form and solidify the multi-ethnic and multicultural communities through his apostolate. Starting from these, we will identify the problems within the Corinthian community, with express reference to the Lord"™s Supper and its significance in forming the identity of the community. The purpose of this article is, as well, to analyse the situation of fellowships in the houses of prominent people in Corinth, which played a special role in the church. People from different backgrounds were included, and therefore, the practices were also a culmination of different traditions. Such a vision is based on the observations that the household has played an important role in the life of Pauline churches, having a central role also in the Greek-Roman society. In this regard, it must not be forgotten that Apostle Paul tried to form a community that was to include both Jews and Gentiles, a community that was to be united in a new and self-determining Church. The important issues lie for the Apostle beyond the two dominant cultures of his world. The topic deserves to be carefully explored, especially in a contemporary context, when we are in a society that has reached, we say, a new intercultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious threshold

The priest, by the nature of his mission and on the basis of the power received from the Saviour Jesus Christ, is the one who guides his believers to salvation. This aspect of guiding the life of the believers engages the priest in community life. Throughout the national history, the priests of the Orthodox Church have been fully integrated into the daily life of the believers. They had a very important role in the Romanian village life. In the public activity, the priest must be a guide and supporter of the moral life of the believers through preach, catechesis, ministry and most of all through the example of their own lives. The priest"™s duty is to mediate, so that the liturgical act and the word of teaching extend into the consciousness of the believers. The main aspects of the activity and presence of the Orthodox priest in the public life have an important place in the concerns of the soul guides. Nowadays, the Romanian Orthodox priests carry out their mission of preaching the Gospel of peace and love to the people with a great desire. The permanence of the Christian tradition has been brought into line with the spiritual realities of the clergy and the believers of today"™s times, the priesthood coming out to meet the high standards of contemporaneity

Provocări etice în protecția europeană a drepturilor omului. Conceptele de "viață" și de "persoană" în jurisprudența CEDO și dezbaterea bioetică

The main purpose of this study is to emphasize one of the most important human right, namely the right to life of the unborn human being. I will analyse a number of decisions of the European Court of Human Rights and their provisions in comparison with Christian morality. Through this study I will highlight how the concepts of "life" and "person" are defined in the legal and theological debate. It can be noticed certain hesitations in the legal texts for a definition of the unborn human being as a person or individual with full rights. The ethical challenge that this study points out is precisely the recognition of the human being as a person from the moment of conception and the respect of his right to life. The analyse will also try to observe how important the cultural-philosophical or moral-religious background of a community is in taking bioethical decisions

The present study, in accordance with the topic proposed by the Romanian Patriarchate for 2019 as a Homage Year for the Romanian Village (as well as for priests, teachers and honorable mayors) and the Commemorative Year of Patriarchs Nicodim Munteanu and Iustin Moisescu and also of religious books translators, is structured in three chapters. I chose this theme from my honest wish to express the profound structure the Romanian village, which, enigmatically, translates the language of pure love and of passionate yearning for the beauty of ancient village, by making a trip into the past. This journey to live again the unique moments of childhood, but most of all, to meet again the peasant of the Romanian village, the mirror of faith, culture and civilization of the Romanian people, is the main purpose of the present approch. Accordingly, the author tryes to emphasize the values of our national identity as much as those ar in accordance to authentic Christian consciousness, passed on over the ages through the Church, an axis mundi of the Romanian culture. The Romanian village is the holy altar to which our parents, our grandparents and our ancestors prayed and sacrificed themselves, the altar they have consecrated again and again for eternity, through their tears, an alive altar where the Living God has His dwelling place

"Let there be light!" Gen. 1:3 in the Interpretation of the Primordial Light

    Get PDF
The concept of light occupies a prominent place in most religions and cultures and can be understood both at a literal and a metaphorical level. Ever since antiquity, people have created and, later on, have developed a mutual connection between light and divinity. Noticing that the sun was the one that provided them with light, the people of ancient times came to attribute human qualities to the light in the sky and to serve it. Unlike them, the hagiographers specified from the very first book of the Holy Scripture that light is God"™s creation (Gen. 1:3-5; Is. 45:7) and that it differs significantly from the lights in the vault of the sky (Gen. 1:14-18). The light made by God on the first day of creation to give light to the world is different from the natural light that the sun and the moon shed. Prophet Isaiah underlines this distinction, foretelling a time when the sun will no longer have to shine during the day, as God Himself will be an everlasting light for man (Is. 60:19-20; acc. Rev. 21:23; 22:5). In other words, the Old Testament grants a deep theological dimension to the primordial light, highlighting the fact that its radiance is due to God and that it cannot exist separately from Him. Thus, in this study we shall demonstrate that the uncreated light which was commanded into being by God is nothing else than the radiance of God"™s glory and, implicitly, a manner of revealing the mystery of the uncreated light that overflew the world from the very first day of the text of creation. Keywords: light (of God), darkness, divine grace, the day of the Lord, Hexaemero
