Studies on plasma iron in the rat. II. Plasma iron concentration and plasma iron-binding capacity
Plasma iron concentrations were determined in rats of three strains. The mean values of plasma iron concentration in rats of the three strains did not differ significantly. Similar values of plasma iron concentrations were found in two groups of rats of one strain fed on diets of widely different iron content. No correlation was found between body weight and plasma iron concentration. The iron-binding capacity of plasma from rats of one strain was determined by two independent methods, the agreement being satisfactory. Whole body x-irradiation caused an increase in plasma iron concentration. © 1961
