VALORES MORALES EN LA EDUCACIÓN SUPERIOR. ABORDAJE BIOGRÁFICO-NARRATIVO DESDE PROFESORES UNIVERSITARIOS MEMORABLES.
In this paper we present partial results of our ongoing research in a national university in Argentina. We intend to define a specific corpus associated to good teaching connected to training and teaching professional development from a biographical-narrative perspective. We also analyze categories linked to a moral perspective in teaching, a central component in teaching practices that impact the definition of a “memorable teacher” at university level. The research adopts a biographical-narrative approach. We interviewed teachers who had been previously identified as “examples of good teaching” by students. Our paper explains the relevance that the interviewed teacher gave to moral features to their memorable teachers when they were students.
Motivation is a methodological vehicle that must necessarily be implemented in the triad system called teaching-learning-university development. This, the motivation, cannot be reduced to some minutes at the beginning of the classes or to the development of a particular topic. Neither focuses on capturing the attention of students for a few minutes. The process of motivation is much more complex and starts from the conception of the course and then the design of the same. The motivation is not only directed at the cognition of the students. It has, rather, a high emotional component, as well as a great relationship with the role of the teacher, both within and outside the classroom. This is why the role of the teacher of these times should focus mainly on "induce and cause grounds in their students". That is to say, to motivate them.
The aim of the Musical Training Revolution is to take advantage of the modern educational technology tools, to apply them to the auditory training in a professional music training program. In this paper, the experience of transforming the classroom course in Leveling in Reading and Ear Training is presented, from a university undergraduate Music, to a b-learning mode. b-learning mode of this course is set on a virtual classroom on the Moodle platform. Online work within this virtual classroom included communication forums, academic forums, ear training self-instructive resources and academic tasks. The working strategy of on-line courses considered several aspects: 1) Structure of the virtual classroom. 2) Communication within the virtual classroom. 3) Managing the virtual classroom. 4) Create and organize content. 5) Provide an online study methodology. 6) Design and implementation of online activities. 7) Rate of online activities. 8) Evaluation of the whole process. The results of this experience forced us to rethink the contents of the same course at the following levels due to the substantial progress made.
Societies progress: currently, a globalized and computer world, is a postmodern society. In it, the ways of transmitting and socializing culture have changed; new human beings have been developed postmodern individuals with very particular characteristics: they are our students. How to optimize the learning triad (student-teacher-knowledge)? It is not enough to know the contents and be a specialist in the field, it is essential to be aware of the current environment to analyze and understand the characteristics of our students, also called "sons of globalization" or "digital natives". Only then shall we know, also, our own reality as individuals and teachers. This paper seeks to analyze the characteristics of our students and reflect on our role as teachers in a complex and changing environment.
How to approach higher education for training in applied research in a "change of epoch" where knowledge has become a substantial asset to the generation of value in goods and services in organizations? What strategy should be implemented when its efficiency tends to be measured through mechanisms external to the research areas of the university? Two questions that allow, on the one hand, going the traditional way in which the university reiterates trivial mechanisms for engineering research training, and, on the other, the holistic -systemic-cybernetic- approach that promotes this same training in the context of complexity. This paper reviews the experience in the field of engineering, emphasizing the educational strategy aimed at achieving an insight of knowledge, where the university is facing increasing difficulty in setting the direction of the areas of applied research in engineering and associated training processes, i.e., in establishing the strategy.¿Cómo afrontar la educación universitaria para la formación en investigación aplicada en un “cambio de época” donde el conocimiento se ha vuelto el activo substancial a la generación de valor en los bienes y servicios de las organizaciones?
When we prepare and organize a class, we must not only think about what we say or how to say it. Class organization must transcend the concerns of the dictation. We must incorporate tasks so the students can have an active attitude in class: we must not only develop their intellectual abilities, which correspond to the passive situation of listening to the teacher. We must ensure that in the learning process the student involves other skills that stimulate their cognitive aspect: with this in mind, the teacher takes on a mediating role, giving prominence to the student. We must seek a balance between teacher, student and the tasks or activities designed. In this article, we will reflect on the advantages of having a good class design, which no longer look only at the content that is taught, but it concentrates on teaching how to learn; it no longer the course but the student is the center of the teaching-learning system. It will no longer be a knowledge-based training, but a comprehensive training that addresses a variety of competencies.
The present research investigates the application of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), as an innovative didactic methodology that propitiates, as a goal, the production of argumentative texts. The experiment was applied to students of School of Economic Sciences of the National University of Tumbes. PBL is a didactic method based in the principles of active and collaborative learning, characterized by promoting at the same time the acquisition of knowledge and attitudes. Also promotes investigation about problem solving, critical thinking, team work, communication and tolerance. In the present research, a text production development test was applied to a sample of 75 first cycle students of the National University of Tumbes. When measuring this capacity, the difference between groups (experiment and control) was compared after applying this methodology at beginning of the studies (pretest) and when concluding the experiment (posttest). Results confirmed the main hypothesis: the application of Problem-Based Learning impacts significantly in the production of argumentative texts. The posttest determined that the experimental group improved significantly this competence (28 percent with regard to their initial performance and in 23 percent in relation to the control group). The study gave evidenced that PBL is a better method to achieve text production capacity, in comparison to a traditional methodology.
This article seeks to explain the problem of literacy in Peru (1); it focuses on the lack of information regarding how children learn or acquire writing skills, which allows initial literacy. It proposes to universities and educational institutes to incorporate into their curricula a closest approach to child development, specifically the period of the first seven years, crucial in the reader and writer training. Also, it invokes to decline traditional practices, which determine the failure of active and reflective readers from initial education and explain in part why the university and Peruvian professionals read little or write short texts. Along this line, it outlines the difficulties of the student to use writing as a personal way of processing information and as a tool to interact with their environment. In the last section there is a list of the concepts and processes that should use an education that respect the evolutionary processes, affective and communicative ones, related to initial literacy. The psychogenesis of literacy it of great importance in order to understand the problem: this issue has political and economic implications, because if a child does not understand what he/she reads he/she will be limited in their employment opportunities; at the same time, a developing society with poor levels of reading comprehension, such as Peru, will have complications when inserting in a globalized economy.
In this article we will discuss how teachers, principals, student counselors, and other professionals in education, can enhance the quantity and the quality of students\u27 motivation by affecting what students are motivated for (i.e., their academic achievement goals) and the reasons why they strive to reach those goals. Based on Achievement goal theory and on Selfdetermination theory we will discuss these qualitative differences in students\u27 motivation and we will explain why teachers should create a learning environment that fosters these more optimal types of motivation.
As of the 1960’s, the concept of motivation has been worked by humanist psychologists as a necessary impulse to cover achievement needs, affiliation or power, as defined by McClelland, or self fulfillment needs, according to Maslow. These ideas lead people to evaluate their purpose in life and in what way their search for self fulfillment or auto realization and the well-being of others, is really a part of their own script and personal vision. On the other hand, motivation pedagogy surges as a response to a need of involving the students during the teaching-learning process. In this case, motivation is understood as a phase during the process, in which the professor assumes the responsibility of creating strategies to emotionally involve the students with the development of the subject. However, what is the purpose of using motivation strategies so that the students involve themselves in the learning process, if the teacher doesn’t feel motivated with the task? Will the students be able to separate the learning process of contents and new skills from learning behaviors that an unmotivated professor could be transmitting? Is it possible to challenge without having your own personal goals? Can one present a stimulus for the rest of the people to use it and be motivated by it without trying it first? And on the other hand, to what degree can you demand the teacher to have a clear motivation for learning, if the school does not orient itself towards achievements, towards recognition or feedback. If the school only commits with results but not with the procedures, can it be possible that the teacher, within this context, will dare to invent and build, in an independent manner, new tools and be able to sustain his or her motivation even though it is not recognized? These are the questions that serve as a base for the exposition of the subject with the purpose of exploring in what way professors can be motivating agents of their own lives as well as of the teaching-learning process.
