Work Culture in Political Entrepreneurship : An Exploratory Study
No full textThis research study is an exploratory study on political entrepreneurship. The researcher has used grounded theory and used participant observation and in-depth interviews as a part of qualitatitve study. The researcher identified a political party, which is emerging and growing. This party has emerged recently and therefore it is spreading its organization. The researcher studied the work culture and tried to identify key elements based on grounded theory methodology. The researcher has presented propositions based on the study for further studies. The main propositions are that the members of the political organization try to spread ideology among people, openly welcome new members, show optimism and aggression in their approach to spread the organization and use innovative media to spread their thoughts and connect with each other. They have frequent meetings to give shape to the organization
Industry-Specific Service Quality Models-A Review in context of Indian SMEs
No full textService quality has been the subject of intense academic and business debate as organizations have increasingly paid more attention to the quality of services they deliver to the customers. Studies in a variety of disciplines have brought a substantial body of theory and research under the complex and dynamic nature of service quality. Service quality has become the most dominant theme in services marketing research. Rendering quality service has become a key for achieving success and gaining advantage over competitors. Recently, service quality has been extensively researched, as it has become vital for service firms to pay attention to it due to increased competition. Based on different definitions of service quality, researchers have put forward different models for evaluating service quality, making its operationalization further complex. The literature on service quality-related issues along the entire supply chain, particularly with respect to SMEs, is not much available. Though SERVQUAL has been a frequently used measure of service quality, of late, researchers have questioned aspects of its application and signaled caution in its use. In this paper, seven industry-specific models, viz., Technical and Functional model,7 GAP model,10 Performance-only model,4 The Three-Component model,13 PCP attributes model,11 Hierarchical model1 and FAIRSERV model2 have been studied and their features have been described. Attitude toward Women Managers in Public Sector of Pakistan: Its Impact on their Career Progression and Quality of life. Moderating Role of Masculinity and Feminity
No full textThis article examines attitude toward women managers; more specifically, this article tries to identify the impact of attitude and different stereotypes on women’s career progression and quality of life with moderating role of masculinity/femininity. To address the purpose, data was collected from 80 female managers from public sector organizations. Then data was analyzed by using correlation and regression analysis. The analysis indicates that there was significant positive relationship between attitude toward women managers and masculinity/femininity. Second, masculinity/femininity moderates the relationship between ATWM and career progression in such a way that high masculinity/femininity will weaken the relationship. Implications of results and limitations are also discussed in the article
Social Responsibility of Alternative Media and Indian Democracy
No full textMedia always considered as fourth pillar of democracy. India has the largest democracy in the world, which usually put all its efforts in restoring the faith of masses in the system. Media being its driving force always supported or criticised time to time. Media constantly showed their presence in Indian democracy. Media not only performed their surveillance function but they also cater their duty of social responsibility perfectly. With the advent of new technologies the traditional media also shifted towards a relatively new alternative media that is (social media). Democracy also faces various crisis time to time and media always tried to find a path to overcome those crisis. Alternative media being the media of masses and by the masses have the factor of immediacy and proximity more than any traditional form of media, due to which it can circulate any piece of information rapidly as compare to radio and television as well. This paper actually examines that how this alternative media is performing their duty of social responsibility and how and what they are adding, towards Indian democracy. This research is based on qualitative research approach. Researcher would find out the role of alternative media towards democracy.
Future Of Media Convergence
No full textMedia convergence, phenomenon in volving the interconnection of information and communications technologies, computer networks, and media content. It brings together the “three C’s”—computing, communication, and content—and is a direct consequence of the digitization of media content and the popularization of the Internet. The use of the concept has therefore developed from being mainly connected with digitalization in media technology to also include elements of integration, combination, competition and divergence. The contemporary media landscape is constantly changing and evolving as new technologies, new platforms give birth to new genres, new formats and new forms of participation. Content that was available only on radio, on TV, in cinema theatres, or at newsstands is readily available at our fingertips, only one click-away. With the development of technology in different platforms and operations such as television, Internet and mobile communication, audiences have had both a bigger choice of media and a life which media technologies has made easier. By combining each medium’s resource, a converged operation can increase the quality of its product. Convergence lead the media is more interactive and audience participation is encouraged. In addition, greater audience engagement can help to enhance the way people experience the media. Moreover, with the interactive World Wide Web, audiences are able to download and share music, video, photo via social networking and become media produce. On the other hand, media convergence brings many challenges. Audiences complain about information overload and they can be overwhelmed and find it difficult.
Cultural Contamination in the Era of Media Divergence
No full textIn a generation of digital community, media in a short time of span has excessively expanded its horizon, blanketing the various areas of interest. Ever since Marshall McLuhan coined the term Global Village, little did we know that the face of media research would ever be the same. With a wide range of platforms, media has paved way for communities to view, analyze, understand, experience and adapt various cultural behaviors making the world a true Global Village. Culture in any populace has a greater impact to form a collective society. India being one of the oldest cultures in the world, in the recent years has seen many behavioral changes in terms of tradition and culture due to the convergence of media in the day-to-day business. Indians whether adapting the western cultures of consumerism or the process of socialization, has been a question of many in terms of traditional contamination. Overall the cultural behavior of Indians irrespective of religion has traditionally been the same but the problem occurred after the adaptation of western social practices and values. The disagreement between the two adaptive cultures has erupted especially after the slow changes and rapid impact of media. Realizing that geographical boundaries aren’t going to stop multi-cultural influence, this research focuses on the level of cultural contamination in the era of media divergence. Not forgetting that in an era of fast-moving digital society, the struggle between traditional and western cultures has become constant, letting outsider change the way the world looks at India. Taking the reference of the book International Communication, continuity and change, qualitative methodology has been applied for the mode of research.
Leadership Practices in India and the USA
No full textThis research paper explores the analysis of leadership practices in two countries India and the USA which have different in culturally and economically. Transformational leadership behaviors of Indian and the USA business leader were measured with the Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI) developed by Kouzes & Posner (2003) [15] [16] to assess the five leadership practices. The total sample size of the survey was 77. This sample includes 45 Indian Business Leaders and 32 Business Leaders from the USA. The total response received was 59 which include 33 Indian Business Leaders and 26 USA Business Leaders. The sample taken in the present study is limited to the top level business leaders such as President, Vice-President, CEO or Managing Director of a large business concern of India and the USA. This research paper explores the comparative analysis of leadership practices in these two countries.
Application of Reliability Centered Maintenance in a Bulb Manufacturing Unit
No full textIn the present research work, application of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) in a bulb manufacturing unit has been highlighted as a case study. Three lines of bulb assembly were running at a speed of 4250 bulbs/hour. Due to consistent low machine efficiency, there was an urgent requirement for analysis of the maintenance system. Last eight months data has been collected and analyzed for calculating the machine efficiency. The results of study suggested that as regards to down time in bulb manufacturing unit is concerned; sealing, mounting, threading machine, pump and stem contributes 27%, 23%, 15%, 10% and 7% respectively.
