Examining the Perspectives of School Administrators Regarding the Participation of Students with Disabilities in Career and Technical Education
No full textResearch consistently indicates that career and technical education (CTE) programs offer significant benefits for students. Participating in CTE programs has been shown to improve academic performance, increase graduation rates, and support successful post-school outcomes for all students. While laws and regulations require clear and intentional post-secondary transition planning, participation in CTE among students with disabilities in New York State remains low, less than one in five take part. Using a phenomenological, qualitative design, this study applied Theoharis and Causton’s (2014) framework of Seven Steps to Inclusive Leadership Practices to add to the research the perspectives of school administrators on the inclusion of students with disabilities in CTE programs. Data were collected from 10 school administrators whose roles included general education, special education, and career and technical education programs. Three findings became evident after analysis of the data. First, administrators who currently make a difference persevere through inequitable systems. Second, stakeholder collaboration is needed to set conditions for including students with disabilities. Third, students with disabilities continue to be an invisible subgroup in leadership preparation, as well as professional development programs. The findings confirm that school administrators can positively impact systems and structures to support the inclusion of students with disabilities in CTE programs and provide the basis for recommendations for educators, policymakers, and leadership preparation programs

First, I want it to be useful for adding to the history of scientific expeditions in the late nineteenth century, specifically for the Philippines and also for the history of science more generally. Second, I want it to be useful for understanding Philippine ornithology, particularly in a historical context. Third, I want it to provide an understanding of how two Americans understood their experiences in the Philippines at a moment just a few years before the Philippines became a place of widespread interest for the United States. Finally, I want it to add to the history of photography in Asia. This StoryMap does not include all of the photographs taken during the Menage Expedition, but it does show a good sampling, and I hope it allows readers to better understand how to disaggregate the Menage Expedition photographs from the Dean Worcester collection of photographs , most of which are now housed at the University of Michigan

Guerrilleras: Speaking Truths and Strategizing Futures
No full textWomen of color in higher education face a landscape that can be difficult to navigate for any number of reasons. For those who succeed, our successes and failures are hard fought and even harder won. This personal reflection considers my experiences participating in The State of Women of Color in New York Higher Education, and my goals for sharing about these aspects from my own career. I offer a goal that guided me through what I discussed at the symposium and saw interwoven throughout the day: women of color guerrilleras who come together in a coalition of warrior sisters to grow and support each other. Drawing insight from Sun Tzu, I consider that now, more than ever, “guerrilleras” are needed—not for a battle but to help strategically shift our very engagements with higher education and transform who we are within it
