No full textThis research looks at the Rochester Police Department and their use of body worn cameras and how they address the concerns of the community through them. Specifically, we examine the quality of footage obtained by BWC, the extent to which official reports of use of force match those recorded on BWC. This research also seeks to better understand two other important facets of policing captured within BWC footage: police emotional affect and de-escalation techniques and police use of procedural justice approaches. As a group of researchers, we created a coding dictionary to answer our research question topics which included procedural justice and the quality of the BWCs for the RPD. The Paradox of the Broker: Why Educators of Color Must Be Supported, Not Just Celebrated
No full textIn this article, Dr. Tatiana C. Parker examines the transformative potential of social capital brokering within the higher education system, particularly for communities that have been systematically excluded through opportunity hoarding and network closures both historically and presently. Institutions of learning have long served as sites for the transmission of instrumental (tangible) and expressive (emotional) social capital returns. Yet, the same system that has supported mobility is now under attack through the divestment of education, ideological resistance, and the longstanding disenfranchisement of educators of color.
Drawing on her research regarding Black women and upward mobility, she asserts that when educators, mentors, and decision-makers act as brokers who share the influence they do have, new pathways to mobility are unlocked. Grounded in Lin’s network theory of social capital, the article positions brokering not only as a means of enhancing the well-being of students and faculty but also as a vital strategy of resistance and resilience within the institution in light of ongoing internal and external threats.
Parker outlines the roles of bonding, bridging, and linking capital, and presents actionable strategies for institutions to treat social capital as a core strategy for both power and protection. Ultimately, she calls on all embedded within social capital–generative spaces, especially Black and brown women in education, to recognize their dual role in navigating systems not built for them while also shaping new ones for the individuals in their care

No full textI have two working forecast models, one for gold and one for silver. I have also done error statistics and found that both of my models are statistically significant. On top of the models, I have created a step by step guide on how to create your own forecast model using a linear regression with examples for each step. For this step by step walk through I used Monroe County high school graduation rate percent as my independent variable, ELA, Math, Science test scores, attendance rate, spending per student and student to teacher ratio as my dependent variables. I am planning on putting my findings for my gold and silver models on a large poster for the keystone showcase. I also am going to print out copies of my step by step guide to hand out to people who are interested in how the model was created and how they can create one of their own models using excel. The audience of my presentation is mainly business students, however I will try to make it to appeal to as many people as possible
