POTENSI UNTUK PENGEMBANGAN WISATA “BIRDWATCHING” DI PUSAT KONSERVASI TUMBUHAN KEBUN RAYA BOGOR
Center for Plant Conservation Bogor Botanic Gardens of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PKT KRB - LIPI) is a favorite tourist destination with the annual visitors more than 800,000. The garden with various vegetation and excellent landscape is an ideal habitat for a diverse bird species. The bird research conducted through literature study, direct field observation and questionnaires were carried out between May and July 2013 to find out potentials of developing birdwatching tourism at PKT KRB - LIPI. This study showed that there were 48 bird species that belong to 23 families can be found in the area. Of those, 26 species that belong to 18 families can be observed from previous research until now. There were 10 species that have not been reported previously and there were nine species distributed through out the 12 sites at PKT KRB - LIPI. So far, there are at least 25 species that have a potential value for birdwatching based on tourist interest, conservation status, endemicity, and birds existence from time to time
VEGETATION SYNTAXONOMY AND LAND MANAGEMENT EFFECT ON METHANE AND CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS FROM WETLANDS: A CASE STUDY FROM TIDAL SALT AND BRACKISH MARSH
Carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ) emission from wetlands significantly contribute to climate change andglobal warming. The interaction between among vegetation type, various environmental factors, andmanagement regimes such as grazing and mowing is considered important in the calculation of CO 2 and CH 4 gasflux for an ecosystem. In this study, vegetation composition, CH 4 and CO 2 flux, soil characteristics, airtemperature and humidity from the brackish marsh and salt marsh wetland ecosystems on Terschelling Islandin Northern Holland were measured. We aimed to investigate the relationship between vegetation composition, grazing, and mowing on CH 4 and CO 2 emission. The abundance and number of plant species werehigher in brackish than in salt marsh. Grazing was found to influence species richness, 39 species being found ina grazed site of brackish marsh compared to 31 species in a similar ungrazed site. CO 2 fluxes in salt and brackishmarsh were found to be similar while CH 4 flux in the salt marsh was found to be lower than in the brackishmarsh. Within the brackish marsh, a higher methane emission was recorded in the grazed zone. However theoverall effect of grazing and mowing was found to be negligible for CH 4 flux but is suggested to clearly reduceCO 2 flux in both the salt and brackish marsh
VARIASI STRUKTUR DAN KOMPOSISI POHON PADA PETAK- PETAK CUPLIKAN VEGETASI DI KAWASAN GUNUNG SEKINCAU BUKIT BARISAN SELATAN, LAMPUNG BARAT
Mount Sekincau is a part of Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP) that has less been explored. It is situated at between 1100–1719 m above sea level. This area included in the category of lower montane rain forests. A vegetation analysis has been conducted to determine the tree structure variation and composition of trees in Mount Sekincau BBSNP. Sample plots were randomly chosen (purposive random sampling) at five locations which consist of 10 plots sized 50 x 50 m2 (0.25 hectares). There were 32 families 59 genus and 89 species with a density of 253 ind/0.5 ha. Mount Sekincau area has an airly good condition, this is indicated by the average value of diversity index (2.67) and evenness index (0.47). Trees often found in this area are members of family Lauraceae, Fagaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Dipterocarpaceae, Myrtaceae and Rubiaceae. Quercus blumeana Korth. (kayu pasang) is dominating and important species (IVI = 27.18%) and has a wide distribution in Sekincau. The forest in this area has an important role to support life and the environment. Therefore, managers of BBSNP can improve care and maintenance. Moreover, Sekincau area directly adjacent to residential areas, so that the necessarily sustainable management on an ongoing basis to meet the needs of the surrounding community
PERMUDAAN ALAMI KAWASAN HUTAN RESORT CIDAHU, TAMAN NASIONAL GUNUNG HALIMUN–SALAK, JAWA BARAT
Natural regeneration studies have been conducted in forests area of the Gunung Halimun–Salak National Park, West Java, in order to explain the ecological pattern and process, and forest succession. A total of 27 plots (10 x 10 m) have been set-up and saplings (dbh: 2–5 cm) within each plot was measured which include a diameter of 50 cm above the ground, the height and position within each plot. Voucher specimens were made for each species recorded in order to further identification. In 27 plots, 73 species of saplings were recorded, which consists of 51 genera and 29 families. Macaranga triloba recorded as the most dominant species only for 9 plots, while 4 other species only for less than 5 plots. This shows that there is high variation in species composition among the plots, which is may relate to habitat conditions. The presence distribution of certain species to certain habitats, suggesting close related between particular species with its habitat. Altitude and canopy closure is thought to be highly influential on the formation of community types
INVASIVE WEEDS IN BOGOR BOTANIC GARDENS, INDONESIA AND ITS IMPLICATION ON SURROUNDING LANDSCAPES
Areal konservasi yang didedikasikan untuk koleksi dan pertukaran bahan tanaman disinyalir menjadi sumber gulma bagi wilayah di sekitarnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengindentifikasi dan mengevaluasi gulma ruderal invasif di Kebun Raya Bogor (KRB). Observasi dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi spesies gulma, menentukan tingkat invasif, dominasi gulma, dan penyebarannya di dalam KRB. Gulma diamati pada setiap vak (petak) termasuk asosiasinya dengan tanaman koleksi. Data pengendalian gulma dan kematian tanaman koleksi dianalisis kaitannya dengan keberadaan gulma. Penyebaran gulma di luar areal KRB diamati secara transek mengikuti alur sungai dan jalan raya. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tujuh gulma invasif yaitu Cecropia adenopus (Cecropiaceae), Cissus nodosa Blume (Vitaceae), Cissus sicyoides Blume (Vitaceae), Dioscorea bulbifera L. (Dioscoreaceae), Ficus elastica Roxb. (Moraceae), Mikania micrantha H.B.K. (Asteraceae) dan Paraserianthes falcataria (L.) Nielsen (Fabaceae). Ketujuh gulma tersebut menginvasi pada 41 famili dari total 215 famili yang ada di KRB. Enam spesies yaitu C. adenopus, C. nodosa Blume., C. sicyoides Blume., D. bulbifera L., M. micrantha H.B.K. dan P. falcataria (L.) Nielsen pada awalnya adalah koleksi introduksi di KRB sedangka
PENGARUH JENIS MEDIA DAN ZAT PENGATUR TUMBUH ATONIK TERHADAP PERKECAMBAHAN SPORA DAN PEMBENTUKAN SPOROFIT
Lygodium circinnatum (Burm.f.) Sw. is a climbing fern (Schizaeaceae) used as a material for handicraft. Recently, supply of raw materials decreased due to declining population of the fern in the wild. This plant is not cultivated yet, therefore it is necessary to propagate and conserve this plant. The aim of this study is to know the influence of media and Atonik on spore germination and sporophyte formation of L. circinnatum. Two types of media were tested: a) the mud from rice field and b) mixture of Asplenium nidus roots and brick particles. The study was conducted in a greenhouse and was arranged in completely randomized design. The results showed that mud from rice field significantly support the germination and sporophytes formation, but must be followed with thinning out the sporophytes. When the sporophytes density is high, they inhibit the gametophyte development into sporophyte. The mud from rice field added with Atonik at concentration of 1.5 ml l-1 was recommended for the germination and sporophyte formation of L. circinnatum
DISTRIBUSI BARU DAN STRUKTUR POPULASI Rafflesia zollingeriana Koord. DI TAMAN NASIONAL MERU BETIRI, JAWA TIMUR
This study was conducted in June–July 2012 to find out the latest Rafflesia zollingeriana distribution and its population structure in Meru Betiri National Park. There are 19 population of R. zollingeriana from 26 colonies and 152 individual including 9 new distribution. R. zollingeriana population is predominantly found on the hillside, away from the beach. Some populations were near the settlement (enclaves) and in the jungle zone near the rehabilitation zone. That population consists of blooming flower (7.89%), live buds (63.16%) and the died buds (28.95%). Living buds sized 0.1 to 5 cm diameter dominate the population (50%), while the big sized buds ready to bloom (diameter more than 15 cm) is only 0.42%. The success rate of buds to bloom are low, so the population sustainability is threatened and needs to be conserved, either in situ or ex situ. Suggestions on its conservation, both in situ and ex situ presented in this paper
TINGKAT HIDUP DAN PERTUMBUHAN AVOKAD HASIL SAMBUNG PUCUK ENTRES YANG DISIMPAN DALAM PELEPAH BATANG PISANG
Avocado has valuable nutrition, especially for the high contents of unsaturated fat and protein compare to other fruits. For commercial purposes, the plant should be propagated vegetatively such as grafting to get a proven high quality with early producing fruit. The success of grafting is depends on the freshness of the scion. The aim of this study is to find out the survival and growth of the grafted avocado plant using stored scions in banana pseudostem for 2 - 9 days. The survival percentage, growth of scion length, leaf number, branch number, and branch length were recorded every month. The data were analized using ANOVA at 5% level and tested furthermore by Duncan. The stored scions influenced on the survival rate and the growth of avocado scion. The average survival rate of grafting scions was decreased continuously from 99.5% (at one month) into 71% (at six months) after grafted. Stored scions in banana pseudostem remain fresh for nine days, which survival rate of 60% - 84% after six months. There was a tendency that longer of scion storage, decreasing of the avocado scion growth; on the contrary, longer grafting time increasing the growth of avocado scions, with the exception of branch number that did not increase relatively two months after grafted
