    MULTIPLIKASI TUNAS Begonia Salaziensis WARB. SEBAGAI UPAYA KONSERVASI TUMBUHAN TERANCAM PUNAH SECARA IN VITRO

    Begonia salaziensis Warb. is categorized critically endangered based on the IUCN Red List ver. 2.3. and need to be propagated to conserve. This study aims to investigate the effect of using BA and IAA plant growth regulator type and concentration on the growth and development of B. salaziensis culture. The study was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) factorial consisting of 2 factors, i.e. the concentration of BA: 0 mg/l; 1 mg/l; 2 mg/l; and IAA concentration: 0 mg/l; 1 mg/l; 2 mg/l. Each treatment was repeated 10 times. To determine B. salaziensis germination the cultures were observed after 12 weeks. The results showed that the combination of BA with IAA on multiplication media had a significantly different effect on the number of shoot, average shoot height, and average number of shoot. The percentage of seed germination on media MS0 was 85%. The best multiplication of B. salaziensis shoots (9.3 ± 1.15) was obtained in MS media supplemented with 2 mg/l of IAA and 1 mg/l of BA. The lowest shoot multiplication (3.6 ± 0.84) was obtained on the control media (MS0) without addition of plant growth regulators, while the highest average length of shoots (1.87 ± 0.26 cm) was obtained on MS media with the addition 1 mg/l of IAA and BA 2 mg/l of BA. The lowest average length of shoots (0.67 + 0.25 cm) obtained on MS media with the addition of 2 mg/l of BA. The percentage of surviving planlets on acclimatization stage was 88.28%

    POTENSI DAN KANDUNGAN KARBON HUTAN MANGROVE DI KARANGSONG, INDRAMAYU, JAWA BARAT

    The location of this study was originally abandoned ponds. The research aims to obtain information about potential species and carbon content of mangrove forests in the Karangsong, Indramayu, West Java. The plots were made in three places consisting of 12 samples of 10 x 10 m for tree inventory, saplings and seedlings with 20 m plot spacing. The results showed that in the mangrove forest of 15.9 ha, eight species were found. The dominant species for tree and sapling stages are Avicennia marina Blume with IVI 279.74% and 156.03%, respectively. The dominant species for seedling stage is Rhizophora stylosa Griff. with IVI 21.32%. Regeneration in mangrove forests is quite good. The biomass and carbon content at study site were dominated by R. mucronata Lam. with a biomass of 72.48 tons/ha (equivalent to 36.24 tons C/ha or 133 tons of CO2/ha) and A. alba Blume of 20.60 tons/ha (10.30 tons C/ha equivalent to 37.80 CO2/ha). Total biomass at the study site was 103.42 tons/ha (equivalent to 51.71 tons C/ha or 189.78 tons CO2/ha)

    Evaluation of Acclimatization Efforts of Plant Collection from Mount Seblat in the Nursery of Cibodas Botanical Garden

    Cibodas Botanical Garden (CBG) has been conducted exploration and plant conservation of mountain forest in Sumatra Island. In this study, the exploration has been conducted in Mount Seblat, Kerinci Seblat National Park, Bengkulu on April 2015. From the exploration 211 numbers of plants collection obtained, which consist of 204 numbers of collections in seedling material, 4 collections number of cutting, and 3 collections number of seeds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the survivorship of the plant collection in the nursery of CBG. The method used in this research was the plant maintenance, and periodic observation of the survivorship p. Observed parameters were the percentage of life, pests and diseases, air temperature, humidity, and light intensity. The results showed that plants successfully acclimatized of seedling 71.66%, cutting 28.57%, and seed 20%. Pests which attack plant collection were caterpillars that eat the leaf buds. During the observation, the temperature was in the range of 17.81-19.52 ?C and humidity in the range of 80.31-91.41%. The intensity of light in the range of 125.81-184.18 Lux. Plant growth was influenced by early treatment when the plant taken out of its habitat, maintenance during the critical period of growth, and the suitability of the microclimate in new location

    Hydriastele beguinii (Burret) W.J. Baker & Loo is an endemic palm from Moluccas Island. Reproduction is an important part of plant life cycles to maintain and sustain their existence. The reproduction ability of H. beguinii is relatively low in its natural habitat, therefore studies on its reproduction aspect are required. The main objective of this study is to assess the reproduction phenology H. beguinii at Bogor Botanic Gardens. Three individuals of H. beguinii at initiation phase were selected. This study observed the duration of each phase, morphology changes in every phase and the biotic and abiotic factors affecting the reproduction phenology. The result showed that flower initiation of H. beguinii initiation took 12–16 days, bud towards anthesis took 8–10 days, anthesis took 14-16 days and young fruits to maturity took 110–124 days. The result also stated that in every reproduction phenology phase has a different time period. In addition, reproduction phenology phases were not directly affected by abiotic factors. Trigona laevicep was an insect visitor that was suspected as the pollinator of H. beguinii

    Kokoleceran (Vatica bantamensis) is flora emblem of Banten, but its existence is worrying because(1) its has been endangered,(2) in natural habitat although still exist but low population, (3) collection at Bogor Botanical Garden is getting old and difficult to bear fruit, (4) propagation has not been successfull, and (5) despite reintroduction but not yet monitored. if this condition is left then it will be more worrisome. We will be sorry if thr used plant it becomes extinct. May many people care and immediately take meaningful anction to save V, batamensis from extinction.Kokoleceran (Vatica bantamensis) adalah lambang flora dari Banten, tetapi keberadaannya mengkhawatirkan karena (1) telah terancam punah, (2) di habitat alami meskipun masih ada tetapi populasi rendah, (3) koleksi di Kebun Raya Bogor semakin tua dan sulit berbuah, (4) perbanyakan belum berhasil, dan (5) meskipun reintroduksi tetapi belum dipantau. jika kondisi ini dibiarkan maka akan lebih mengkhawatirkan.     Litter productivity of forests within Cibodas Botanical Gardens area was 9.5± 0.04 ton/ha/year with the largest composition derived from leaves and them followed by stems and twigs, barks, fine litter, fruit and flowers respectively. There were totally 89 species of leaf litter consisting trees, shrubs,berbs, epiphytes, ferns and mosses found in Cibodas Botanical Garden forests. Leaf litter was dominated by Altingia excelsa and then followed by Ficus Involucrata, Villebrunea rubescens and Neonauclea lanceolata respectively. Flowers and froits litter productivity data were representation of plant phenologyProduktivitas hutan serasah  di kawasan Kebun Raya Cibodas adalah 9,5 ± 0,04 ton / ha / tahun dengan komposisi terbesar berasal dari daun dan diikuti oleh batang dan ranting, kulit kayu, serasah halus, buah dan bunga.
