    NEPENTHES: TUMBUHAN PEMAKAN SERANGGA YANG MENARIK DI KEBUN RAYA BATAM

    Member of the genus Nepenthaceae, especially Nepenthes are commonly known as the tropical pitcher plants, the Asian pitcher plants or monkey cups. Being one of the diversity center of pitcher plant, more than 130 species of Nepenthes are found in Indonesia, including their natural hybrid. Nepenthes ampullaria, N. gracilis, N. × hookeriana, N. rafflesiana, N. reinwardtiana, and N. × trichocarpa were collected from Batam island and surrounding area in Riau island province as a result of exploration program. Nepenthes × hookeriana and N. × trichocarpa are two of the natural hybrid while N. ampullaria, N. gracilis,  N. rafflesiana, and N. trichocarpa have been growing very well naturally in Batam Botanic Gardens.     The Annonaceae is among the largest family of the flowering plant kingdom which varies in habitus ranging from trees, shrubs and climbers. Member of this family consist of about 109 genera and 2440 species. The Annonaceae has important economic value and widely used for traditional medicines, food sources, cosmetics and perfumes, ornamental plants, pesticides, timber, and ceremonial offerings. It also has played an important role in environmental health especially in tropical forest ecosystem. Despite of its enormous uses, the family has not received enough attention, even tend to have been forgotten.     Ukel, Crozier, or Fiddlehead is a term for a fern leaf bud with circinnate type. These structure is one of the distinctive character found in ferns. In this article, some aspects related to the fern leaf bud will be discussed, include the origin of local name, list of non- circinnate type, developmental process, morphological diversity, and potential utilization.     KIPRAH KEBUN RAYA BANUA DALAM MENJALANKAN LIMA FUNGSI

    Banua Botanic Gardens (Banua BG) is the first botanical garden in South Kalimantan that initiated in 2009. This garden occupy an area  of 100 ha which is managed by the City Government of South Kalimantan Province. The main focus of the Banua BG establihment is to  build ex-situ conservation facilities  for native plants of Kalimantan lowland forests, especially medicinal plant species. Some medicinal plants unique to Kalimantan have been collected, including Akar Kuning (Arcangelisia flava), Sintuk(Cinnamomum sintoc), Pasak Bumi (Euricoma longifolia), Tabat Barito (Ficus deltoidea), Mata Bulanang (Lanchocarpus sp.), and  Seluang Balum (Lavanga sarmentosa). Banua BG had been built  since 2013 and launched in 2016.  Currently at the end of December 2019, Banua Botanic Gardens has been able to implement five botanical garden functions that is  research, education, tourism, and environmental services

    KERAGAMAN DAN ANALISIS KEKERABATAN 30 JENIS BEGONIA BERDASARKAN KARAKTER MORFOLOGI

    The living collection of Begonia in the Bogor Botanic Gardens has been used in hybridization to produce new varieties. This study aimed to describe the morphological characters, diversity, and relationship between species. The research was arranged in a randomized complete design with three replications. Observations included 39 qualitative and eight quantitative variables. Differences between species were tested using the F test at 5% and 1% significance level, followed by Duncan's Multiple Range tests. The relationship between genotypes were analyzed using cluster analysis, and principal component analysis by SPSS version 23. Analysis of variance showed that species significantly affected all quantitative characters. Principal components analysis on 30 Begonia species showed four components with initial eigenvalues >1. This value obtained from the reduction of 13 variables, and explained 65.50% diversity. Cluster analysis showed that the 30 Begonia species were clustered into six groups. The Begonia breeding program at Bogor Botanic Gardens referred to the classification of Begonias with ornamental foliage. Begonia species recommended for use for further breeding program are B. holocericeoides, B. kudoensis, and B. rex from group I; B. puspitae from group II; B. coriaceae from group V; and B. masoniana from group VI.Koleksi Begonia di Kebun Raya Bogor (KRB) telah dimanfaatkan pada kegiatan hibridisasi untuk menghasilkan varietas baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh deskripsi karakter morfologi, keragaman morfologi, dan pola kekerabatan antar jenis Begonia. Bahan yang digunakan adalah 30 jenis Begonia koleksi KRB. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga ulangan. Peubah yang diamati sebanyak 39 peubah kualitatif dan 8 peubah kuantitatif. Perbedaan antara jenis diuji menggunakan uji F pada taraf nyata 5%, dilanjutkan dengan uji lanjut Duncan’s Multiple Range test. Keragaman dan pola hubungan kekerabatan dianalisis dengan analisis gerombol dan analisis komponen utama menggunakan software SPSS versi 23. Hasil analisis ragam menunjukkan bahwa jenis Begonia berpengaruh nyata pada semua karakter peubah kuantitatif. Hasil analisis komponen utama pada 30 jenis Begonia terdapat 4 komponen yang mempunyai akar ciri >1 yang merupakan hasil reduksi dari 13 peubah yang dapat menerangkan keragaman morfologi sebesar 65,50%. Analisis gerombol menghasilkan dendrogram yang mengelompokkan Begonia koleksi KRB menjadi enam kelompok pada tingkat kemiripan 85%. Program pemuliaan Begonia di KRB merujuk pada klasifikasi pemuliaan Begonia berdaun indah. Jenis Begonia yang direkomendasikan untuk digunakan dalam program pemuliaan selanjutnya yaitu B. holocericeoides, B. kudoensis, dan B. rex dari kelompok I; B. puspitae dari kelompok II; B. coriaceae dari kelompok V; and B. masoniana dari kelompok VI
