separation techniques and ultrasensitive detection methods for characterization and identification.
DOM is ubiquitous in water bodies and participates in the global carbon cycle, undergoing
complex transformation through photochemical and microbial processes. Green tea is one of the
most consumed beverages in the world and is rich in polyphenolic compounds. Separation and
identification of components in green tea is useful for gauging tea quality. In this work, 2D-LC and
EC-SERS were explored for the first time to analyze compounds in DOM and green tea. 2D-LC offers
enhanced separation compared to conventional HPLC systems since there are two dimensions present.
EC-SERS was used as an offline detection modality to help identify the compounds in DOM and green
tea. 2D-LC-EC-SERS was successfully performed for green tea and preliminary work was conducted
for DOM taken from the Sackville River
Biofertilizers : investigating the plant growth-promoting ability and mode of action of a novel PGPR using biochar as an inoculum carrier

products such as chemical fertilizers and agrochemicals, to meet up with the rising demands of
food production. These products have had detrimental effects on the environment. To reduce the
harmful effects of these synthetic products, scientists are now exploring more sustainable
alternatives such as biofertilizers. This project evaluates the effectiveness of a novel plant
growth-promoting bacteria Fictibacillus enclensis on plant growth.
This study has shown that F. enclensis promotes plant growth in peppers, barley, carrots. It also
led to an increase in nitrogen content of bush beans. Fictibacillus enclensis has been shown to
affect the barley root system by shortening the root length, while encouraging root hair growth.
Fictibacillus enclensis was not found to produce the protein ACC deaminase and has little to no
synergistic effect on plant growth when coupled with Stenotrophomonas rhizophila
Where’d the coast go? : geoarchaeological exploration of upper Bay of Fundy coastal histories in Nova Scotia

landscape geoarchaeology aided by modern technologies and informed by coastal
geomorphology. Three approaches examine multiple scales of analysis providing a set of
tools that guide the development of novel approaches to landscape geoarchaeology,
supplementing studies of relationships among archaeological sites and geomorphological
systems. First, a python-based automated method for measuring surface area of artifacts is
presented and applications briefly discussed. Second, a date range is suggested for an
archaeological site at Oak Point using microfossils, remote sensing, and geographic
information systems to develop an interactive age-depth model for the site. The final
chapter models coastal paleotopography using marine limit data from 15.5 to 13.5 thousand
years ago. These cases highlight how enriching interactions with technology can provide
ductile frameworks to inform human-scale observations and landscape geoarchaeology
interpretations in the upper Bay of Fundy

An exploration of thermomechanical softwood pulp for N95 respiratory mask production
1 online resource (xi, 65 pages) : illustrations (some colour)Includes abstract and appendix.Includes bibliographical references (pages 56-59).The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted supply chain issues for personal protective equipment (PPE) in Canada. In addition, many PPE products are produced from non-renewable feedstocks. Wood pulp is an abundant and renewable natural resource. Currently, wood pulp from one Canadian paper mill in particular is used in combination with synthetic polymers, such as polypropylene, to produce non-woven textiles. Most of the world's population has become familiar with non-woven textiles over the course of 2020 since they are used to produce the 3-ply disposable masks that many people are currently required to wear. Not only are the synthetic polymers produced with the use of solvents that are detrimental to the environment, but these single use masks are piling up in landfills. The goal of this project was to work in partnership with Port Hawkesbury Paper to produce PPE entirely out of Nova Scotian thermomechanical wood pulp (TMP). This pulp is produced in a low effluent mechanical process that uses less harsh chemicals than the production of synthetic polymers. Above all, wood pulp based PPE would be biodegradable, therefore this would have an enormously positive impact on the population's waste output. Overall, this thesis work reviews characteristics of existing PPE and the impact of lignin content on filtration efficiency of pulp fibers. In this Honors essay, the author is going to explore the topic of gender and resistance in language translation based on her first experience as a translator. Working together with Dr. Bannerjee, Coupeuses d’Azur, an epic French anthology written by Mauritian poet Khal Torabully, is well translated. Based on this particular experience, the author first examines the inherent sexist components in the French language in its rules for grammatical gender, which influences French speakers' way of thinking. Furthermore, the author explores how translation practice, and the role of female translator may help change this current. Secondly, this thesis focuses particularly on the creole language and the musicality of poems in the process of translation from the postcolonial perspective. During the translation process,
the author came across many intricacies and nuances, but that’s what made this journey so challenging and rewarding at the same time. To summarize the highlights of this unique learning path, she also depicts her own lived experience in translation
