1 online resource (219 pages)Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references (pages 197-219).In this dissertation I explore the potential of creative synthesis within the debate of method in
management and organizational history by developing an approach that I call ANTi Microhistory. It is an approach that draws on three literatures: (1) amodern historiography, (2)
ANTi-History and, (3) microhistory. Insights from each of these collectives, especially their
opportunities for theoretical dialogue, are brought together to constitute a nascent resolution vis à-vis ANTi-Microhistory. The formation of this critical approach of conducting historically
informed scholarship in management and organizational theorizing synthesizes key points in the
field. First, the nearly two-decade intellectual project known as ‘the historic turn’ in management
and organization studies has indeed materialized but unnecessarily creates tension between the
groundswell of historical scholarship being conducted and an emergent method problematic that
results in fragmentation of ‘doing history.’ Second, ANTi-History has injected new
understandings of history as the social effect of interest-driven socio-politics but misses
analytical value of the individual in history ‘from below.’ Third, seeing the performativity of
history in small units (e.g., the individual, community, or event), microhistory holds potential for
centring stories of the past in ‘in-between’ spaces – grey areas between institutions and the
people connected with them – which deserves a closer look in management and organization
studies. The empirical application and demonstration of this approach is explored using materials
related to the history of Trans Canada Airlines. In particular, the socio-politics of one individual
– Jean Chrétien – during a period of change within the airline’s history is unravelled to pluralize
the account. The contribution of this research is to: build on the potential of an ANTi Microhistory approach which narrows the research frame; reassert the individual in historical
research as a unit of analysis; and a crafting of history that converges complementary approaches
while maintaining a practice of criticality
Exploring local delaunay graph based neural network for 3D object detection

Most of the 3D object detection methods are point-based,
voxel-based, or point-voxel-based (uses both point-based and voxel-based approaches).
Recently, few works have used graph neural networks for 3D object detection and
achieved promising results. Representation of a point cloud as a graph preserves the
irregularity and removes the cost associated with the transformation into voxel grids
or projection into a bird’s eye view. In this thesis, we study the effects of point cloud
encoding using local Delaunay graphs by embedding it in an existing graph neural
network (Point-GNN). We perform experiments on the KITTI benchmark and find
that graph-based methods achieve higher or comparable accuracy. Our results are
comparable with most of the state-of-the-art methods. Further, our study indicates
that the selection of the right type of proximity graph representation is crucial for
real-time 3D object detection
Characterization, classification, and mechanisms for mineralization of critical metal-bearing occurrences in southwestern Meguma Terrane, Canadian Appalachians

A multi-analytical approach integrating results from detailed petrography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Re-Os geochronology of arsenopyrite, U-Pb geochronology of apatite, Al-in-chlorite thermometry via electron probe micro-analyzer (EPMA), in-situ secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) of sulfur isotopes in sulfides, and fluid inclusion systematics has allowed for the
characterization and interpretation of mineralization at the Lansdowne (Sb-Pb-Zn-Co-Ag) and Cape St. Mary’s (Sb-Pb-As-Co-Ni-Bi-Au-REE) occurrences, and comparisons with the Nictaux Falls Dam occurrence (Co-Ni-As-Bi-Au). These results suggest a complex multi-stage mineralizing history for both occurrences due to reactivation of Neoacadian structures. Critical metal mineralization of the Lansdowne occurrence represents a newly classified occurrence type in Nova Scotia related to extensional tectonics from the breakup of Pangea in the Late-Triassic
Chemical characterization and timing of uranium occurrences in the Nonacho Basin, Northwest Territories, Canada

The integration of multiple bulk and microanalytical techniques, including petrography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA), U-Pb in uraninite geochronology using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), in addition to Re-Os in molybdenite and Ar-Ar in biotite geochronology, and inductively coupled mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) has allowed for characterization of uranium occurrences within the Nonacho Basin. Developing constraints on timing, and chemical characterization of two styles of uranium mineralization: primary detrital uraninite (Hope occurrence) and a hydrothermal, remobilized mixture of uranophane±uraninite (MacInnis Lake study area) aids in understanding the metallogenic evolution of the Nonacho Basin
and the western Rae craton
Feature preserving decimation of urban meshes

day urban or semi-urban areas. Consequently, 3D models of urban buildings are of paramount
importance to a majority of digital urban applications such as city planning, 3D mapping and
navigation, video games and movies, among others. However, current studies suggest that
existing 3D modeling approaches often involve high computational cost and large storage volumes for processing the geometric details of the buildings. Therefore, it is essential to generate
concise digital representations of urban buildings from the 3D measurements or images, so that
the acquired information can be efficiently utilized for various urban applications. Such concise
representations, often referred to as “lightweight” models, strive to capture the details of the
physical objects with less computational storage. Furthermore, lightweight models consume
less bandwidth for online applications and facilitate accelerated visualizations. In this thesis,
we provide an assessment study on state-of-the-art data structures for storing lightweight urban
buildings. Then we propose a method to generate lightweight yet highly detailed 3D building
models from LiDAR scans. The lightweight modeling pipeline comprises the following stages:
mesh reconstruction, feature points detection and mesh decimation through gradient structure
tensors. The gradient of each vertex of the reconstructed mesh is obtained by estimating the
vertex confidence through eigen analysis and further encoded into a 3 X 3 structure tensor. We
analyze the eigenvalues of structure tensor representing gradient variations and use it to classify
vertices into various feature classes, e.g., edges, and corners. While decimating the mesh, fea ture points are preserved through a mean cost-based edge collapse operation. The experiments
on different building facade models show that our method is effective in generating simplified
models with a trade-off between simplification and accuracy
Landscape composition regulates the spillover of beneficial insects between forest remnants and adjacent coffee plantations
Published versionCross-habitat movements are crucial for persistence of beneficial insects in agricultural landscapes; however, much remains unknown on how landscape structure affects the spillover of beneficial insects between crop and non-crop habitats. To estimate the effects of landscape structure on the spillover of beneficial insects we sampled predatory wasps in pairs of forest remnants and adjacent coffee plantations along a gradient of landscape composition and configuration. We used dissimilarity indices to estimate wasp spillover and we assumed that high dissimilarity means less flow (and thus less spillover) between forest and coffee habitats. We collected a total of 9847 wasps classified into 75 species and 23 genera. Wasp dissimilarity between habitats decreased with increasing forest cover in the surrounding landscape and did not respond to landscape diversity, edge density or pesticide usage. Our findings suggest that wasps forage in coffee plantations but seem to rely on forest remnants to find unmanaged nesting sites and a constant supply of resources that are not available in the agricultural matrix, and are neither in landscapes with high compositional diversity or edge density. Therefore, forest conservation and restoration should be incorporated in agro-environmental schemes designed to improve the spillover of beneficial insects and provision of ecosystem services within coffee farmlands
Effects of simulated microgravity and associated environmental effects on ossification in larval Danio rerio (zebrafish)

vertebrates. Larval Danio rerio (zebrafish) were exposed to SMG in a combination of altering rotation mode (2D or 3D rotation) as well as different durations (23 or 48 hours). Vibration and anesthesia were also tested both independently and concurrently with SMG. The level of ossification and presence of Type X collagen (colX) in the operculum was assessed via in situ hybridization. Exposing larval zebrafish to SMG for different durations produced results which ranged from a decrease in ossification for some skeletal elements to complete inhibition of ossification in others, with significant differences noted between rotation modes. Vibration and anesthesia alone and in combination presented significant, but small reductions in ossification. This research provides insight into how different external stimuli such as SMG can cause negative effects on ossification in the developing skeleton
Titania minerals of Upper Jurassic - lower cretaceous sandstones of the Scotian Basin
1 online resource (vii, 92 pages) : illustrations, maps (some colour), charts, graphsIncludes abstract and appendices.Includes bibliographical references (pages 81-92).A study of titania (TiO2) minerals was performed to test the hypothesis that precipitation of late diagenetic titania minerals in reservoir sandstones of the Scotian Basin is related to the migration of hydrocarbons. Reservoir sandstones of Upper Jurassic- Lower Cretaceous from the Scotian Basin showed all three polymorphs of titania to be present as authigenic minerals indicating Titanium (Ti) was mobile. Diagenetic anatase and brookite are more prominent than diagenetic rutile. Anatase is mostly early diagenetic, whereas brookite is usually late diagenetic and is abundant in reservoir sandstones above the free-water level. The availability and mobility of Ti is attributed to the dissolution of Ti-containing minerals (ilmenite, pseudorutile, biotite) enhanced by Ti complexes formed from hydrocarbon-rich and highly saline fluids. This study suggests that the precipitation of diagenetic brookite may be due to the incorporation of Fe and V during hydrocarbon charge and the presence of Clin the circulating fluids, which favour brookite polymorph formation
Assessing the suitability of living shoreline techniques for coastal erosion in Prince Edward Island, Canada

Wave action continuously works on the unconsolidated till and sandstone banks, eroding and
receding coastlines, while nourishing beaches and estuaries. This causes intensified risk to
properties, infrastructure, and humans. Hard engineered structures are common, short-term,
solutions to coastal erosion. These structures disrupt the natural land-water interaction as wave
energy is deflected at the structure and dispersed to adjacent areas, increasing erosion. Living
shorelines are used as alternatives to hard structures by incorporating natural materials, such as
vegetation, to provide coastal protection. Living shorelines are long-term methods for coastal
erosion. These adaptations act as wave energy barriers and sediment traps, slowing erosion rates.
Certain characteristics and baseline conditions such as vegetation, geology, geomorphology,
sediment, and differing exposure types are required for living shoreline techniques to reap their
intended benefits. Tools to assess site suitability for living shorelines, available online or through
documents, are critiqued. The critique is based on how well the tool characterizes PEI, signifying
how useful it would be if used as an assessment resource for the suitability of living shorelines.
A multicriteria evaluation was conducted in ArcGIS Pro to identify segments of the shoreline
that were suitable, moderately suitable, and unsuitable for implementing living shorelines. This
model was tested using 31 field sites surveyed between July-August 2021. With this information,
governments and coastal property owners will be able to determine whether or not their property
would benefit from installation of living shorelines
